Chimaira’s Pass Out Of Existence was very underrated and heavy for the time it came out. The double bass drumming and low tuned aggressive riffs are definitely what made Chimaira a stronger band in my eyes of Nu Metal. In my personal opinion, “Pass Out Of Existence” has more of an “Underground” feel and really shows the potential Nu Metal has in the hands of great songwriters.

Skrape is the most underrated band on this list! Their lead singer formed a supergroup called Audiotopsy with members of Mudvayne. I had never seen clips of Skrape playing live until recently...it kinda blew my mind to see how they pulled off their songs in concert. I think their singer has a distinct voice compared to your typical "nu-metal" frontman. More of an MTV2 kinda band, but I think they deserve more recognition. I thought their second album "Up the Dose" was pretty rad, too! Oh, and Reveille is pronouced "Reh-vuh-lee" in American English. "Reveille" is what they play in the Army on the trumpet to wake up the troops in their barracks!

2003 was when the genre was on life support in mainstream popularity save for Meteora, Fallen, Take A Look In The Mirror, TDG's self titled & Shadow Zone alongside singles from Chevelle, P.O.D & the afromentioned Trapt meanwhile in 2002 Nu metal was still popular with albums like Korn's Untouchables, Papa Roach's lovehatetragedy and songs from Chevelle, SOAD & the afromentioned Puddle Of Mudd & Saliva although it began to decline in mainstream popularity

I got to admit that aside from 1999, 2001 may be one of the best years in Nu Metal. There was a ton of great releases to come out that year. Of the ones that I've heard, here would be my ranking: S - System of a Down - Toxicity, American Head Charge - The War of Art, Fear Factory - Digimortal, Slipknot - Iowa A+ - Sevendust - Animosity, Ill Nino - Revolution Revolucion, Drowning Pool - Sinner A - Dry Kill Logic - The Darker Side of Nonsense, Static-X - Machine, Kittie - Oracle, 40 Below Summer - Invitation to the Dance, Chimaira - Pass Out of Existence B - Powerman 5000 - Anyone for Doomsday?, Alien Ant Farm - Anthology, POD - Satellite, Staind - Break the Cycle C - Dope - Life D - Machine Head - Supercharger, Saliva - Every Six Seconds

@soulsvortex10

Not sure that I would consider Kittie's Oracle nu metal. It's difficult to categorize but you can hear a lot of Pantera and 90s Machine Head influence in there. The songs may be less catchy than on Spit, but I think that was part of what they wanted to achieve. I recall that with Oracle they wanted to create a "real" metal album, and whether some people agree with calling it that or not they certainly made a very pissed off record that in my opinion is their finest moment.

Because of a very obvious and certain event from that year, I'm really fascinated by art, and even more specifically music, from 2001-2005ish. Its like the concepts of fear and uncertainty were hyper-injected into the cultural fibers of America and popular media of the time, and being able to see and hear that, especially in hindsight, is just fascinating to me.

I was pretty surprised to see Skrape on here, I found them about 6 years ago. Literally only bought the album for Isolated........I also like Rake but I honestly can't be bothered for the rest of the album. Love Flaw, favorite track off the album is Whole. Machine (for me) is the best Retro Static-X album period. If the rules of inclusion are flexible enough I would of loved to have seen SOil on here for the album Scars (they have a Japanese bonus song called Center that absolutely slays) Also I'm glad to see you got Project 86 on the last list even if they weren't your favorite, Personally I love DBL because it was the first "heavy" album I purchased with my allowance (that I was allowed to anyway due to being raised in a born again Christian household). Without the nostalgia goggles on I would say "Truthless Heroes" (2002) and "Songs To Burn Your Bridges By" (2003) are much better releases, the ladder being my favorite overall from that era. I do hope that you get the chance to experience the rest of their discography in due time up till OMNI 1&2, I think that will make the excitement around the tone shift more palatable....... or alternatively since you now heard what was considered their "heaviest album" by the fan-base maybe now would be the perfect time to dive into OMNI as it isn't just heavy by P86 standards, but can easily hold it's ground in today's metal scene. Heaviest?.....no.......but undeniably Heavy, like in line with Fear Factory. In case I haven't sold you on the idea I recall you having an affinity for Metalcore and Industrial......OMNI is both.

Toxicity is an album that still gets regular rotation for me, and is my favourite on this list. I've grown to have a new appreciation for it because it takes me back to a time in my life where I was struggling, but my one constant positive was my son, and I loved having Toxicity blasting while I was playing soccer or ministicks in the basement with him. Adema is one I played a lot thanks in large part to "Giving In" and I now have a personal connection to Speculum, so it is a hard listen, but still a great song IMO. I also fondly remember blasting Iowa when it came out, and it still holds up well today.

I am really the minority but I just really love Alien Ant Farm, sad they are an one hit wonder band ! Wish, Courage and Universe are peak Nu Metal songs for me and they are from this album,also Attitude, Happy Death Day and Calico are great tracks to listen. Anthology is a truly time travel machine to 2001, just a beautiful masterpiece ! Also, I would say they are more alternative rock with some Nu Metal/Alternative Metal songs, they had one album before it called Greatest Hits released on 1999 than is more closer to Metal, sounds like a lost 90s Deftones album. This album is only possible to listen on youtube on internet because some right license issues, it's not disponible on Spotify.

If you do Nu Metal albums from 2002 you gotta have Five Pointe O their only album after the vocalist and their female guitarist (got married, they still are married to this day with 2 kids) left the band during their last tour with the band the album to me had a slight metalcore side to it and one song kinda had a similar part vocally kinda spoken wordy that Sikth have in some of their songs (they formed a shortlived metalcore band together)

Reveille (Rev.uh.lee) was a fantastic band, their debut album "Laced" is a masterpiece. Bleed the Sky is alright but way too commercial corn for me.

Closeted Staind fan here. Yeah, they've been in the same boat as Trapt with their frontman going full MAGA, and they definitely slid downhill after 2001, but there's no denying their talent, nor the consistency of Tormented, Dysfunction and BTC.

*Yet again* I'm agreeing with all the placements on this list *Metal T's* (no pun intended lm tail o) but I'd honestly put Pass Out of Existence ( *OG CHIMAIRA MY LOVE* ) in the *Fantastic* tier, Life (by Dope) at the bottom of the "good" tier ~ *American Apathy* - any version of it (2005) actually is *WAYYYY* tf better than the rest of their discography with Felons + Revolutionaries I suppose being their second-best album... *Sinner* (OG DP tho, *RIP* Dave Williams) deserves to be in the *great* tier imo (and maybe the same with Anthology by *AAF* and they're just on the "softer" side of nu metal I think), *NKA* (Skrape) should most definitely be in the *good* tier, and Digimortal by FF *SERIOUSLY* needs to be in the Perfection tier imho, *sir.* 🤌 🔥 🧐 🗣 🍻

I'm not an elitist of any sort, I'll give everything a fair shake. Nu-metal has mostly just never been my thing. However, I think I have the spiciest opinion and I've found exactly 0 people that agree with it. Not only do I not consider Slipknot a good representation of the genre, but I have the opposite opinion of the elitists apparently. It's not that I am trying to maintain a non-like of nu-metal while trying to subtly like Slipknot, no, I outright despise Slipknot. Especially self titled and Iowa. Which point one to how weird my opinion is, the albums I have the most hatred for are the 2 that most people consider their best work. But it isn't just not liking them, and to the bigger point, I find them physically hard to listen to. You know that visceral cringe most people have when they hear Brokencyde? Slipknot does that for me. No exaggeration, I cannot be in earshot to those 2 albums without feeling this weird deep embarrassment. I am not a spiritual person but the greatest argument I've found for religion is how badly hearing Slipknot hurts my non-existent soul. My innards contort just thinking about how dumb, contrived, and dorky songs like Heretic Anthem are. I've tried, and I just can't. Sorry to all Slipknot fans, but they managed to find the most bizarrely awful sound to me. I think most people have a band like that, and could probably relate to what I'm saying. But having that band be Slipknot places me way in the minority it seems.

Static X- INDUSTRIAL, Fear Factory- INDUSTRIAL ( couple nu metal songs, just), Slipknot are more Industrial ( Iowa isn't a Nu metal album, nor is volume 3, all hope is gone - it's a mixed bag as are the rest of their albums) Toxicity, System has been labelled Blood metal in some write ups.
