1993 was an epic year for Video Games. Some amazing video games came out but it was also flooded with a bunch of not-so-great games. Here's a chronological look at just some of the SNES games you were playing in 1993.

In 1993 I was in 6th grade, and I swapped games to try out with my friend Tom. He gave me Gradius 3, I gave him SimCity. When I brought Gradius 3 back, Tom wasn't at school that day, so I just kept it in my locker, where it got stolen. (Friggin Lorenzo.) So my mom thought it was justified that since I lost his game, he got to keep mine. Parenting! Because of this, I asked for SimEarth for Christmas, and I got it, and... it sucks. One of the most disappointing game experiences of my life. At least I was able to get Star Fox that year
@JohnRiggs
@JohnRiggs 11 месяцев назад
Yeah, trading games at school was always a gamble, especially with lockers. Once I traded my game (forgot what it was) for my friend's Spider-Man and X-Men (terrible). We traded back before school started, later that day he told me his copy was stolen. I felt bad for him, but was also thankful that we traded back early as I always kept my games on me (I never used my high school locker)

I had a Genesis but my friends had SNES. We used to go back and forth about which system had the better games. Little did we know the answer was actually the PC Engine (or Turbografx 16, minus some of the stellar Japanese only releases like Rondo of Blood)

I was one of the few kids that had a TG-16 and even had the CD add on and it was not region locked so I had Dracula X Rondo of Blood. SNES was still my fave, but by 1993 TG-16 was just doing game sby mail order by the end of the year as stores no longer were carrying their games and it was the end of support for the most underrated console ever.

It's a shame that we never got an official western release of the Sailor Moon: Another Story JRPG for the Super Famicom but at least there are fan translations. I also somewhat liked the Tenchi Muyo! tactical JPRG for Super Famicom but that one was a lot easier than the Sailor Moon JRPG.

Shanghai was on the NES and Gameboy to let that title make sense and it's pretty decent given the 8bit format too. Also you left out, Valis had a start too on the NES (Famicom) in Japan, sadly needs a translation since it has some poorly done cryptic bits in town streets areas to get the game triggered to move further yet the hack and slash was there too. Then later you hit on Plok and that one I saw that interview, seems Miyamoto calls it the 3rd best platformer on SNES and had considered publishing it until it looked like Yoshi's Island would maybe have its profit shared with it so they didn't. I'd believe it given I never played it until days ago when I finally found a copy and it's solid, very solid.

With SMB All-Stars you're not completely wrong. Lost Levels specifically (as well as the original Japanese SMB2) has a feature where if you finish the game with zero warp pipes you get to move on to "World 9" and finishing that world brings you to the letter worlds A through D which are mostly just harder versions of earlier levels. And don't forget that Secret of Mana supported THREE players simultaneous with a multi-tap! ;D

Going to Blockbuster on Friday after a long School week was always so exciting, even when you rented a Turd.. I’ll never forget one of my Favorites of all time that I rented and then later when it was time to Return it, Trading my friend Shawn RE 2 for, was none other than Gran Turismo for PlayStation!! (I know wrong Video) But in general I don’t at all think it’s just “Rose Tinted Glasses” because it really was more of an Experience back then?! I was 11 when PS1 came out in 95! Had a friend who had Rock N Roll Racing and played it till I beat it as you can upgrade your vehicle like RC Pro AM minus collecting letters. Also, played countless hours of WWF Royle Rumble and remembering the arm drag trick but remember the awesome intro music when highlighting each wrestler. I don't recall bonus levels in All Stars and I would borrow 7th Saga from a classmate and try to get as far as I could in the game with the same aava without them overriding it and getting stuck. I also still have a copy of Final Fight. Friends had Mortal Kombat and remember hitting R button with Johnny Cage and crotch shot everyone except Sonia through the tournament. Also had all three of the Super Star Wars games as a kid but no more.

Did you play Secret of Mana at all? It's one of my favorites and deserves the title of "a classic" in my eyes. The worst of it is that sometimes the enemies tend to attack and attack while the HP-loss animation is still going so you can't move, and you can only hold 4 of each item. Still, it's a favorite for the gameplay, story and music, and the graphics really take you there, from right when the RPG boom was starting.

There's still great Rock 'n Roll being released today outside the boring mainstream charts, but even so, I doubt a new RnR Racing game would even use them... They'd likely use either classic rock from 1966-1989 like rock "stopped existing" or _"being any good"_ after the 80s, or use new hip-hop and trap from 8 years ago to today as a desperate bid to appeal to the new generation -of posers- ... The arcade collection has a revamped version of rock and roll racing as a definitive edition. The music used for it was modified to be the real deal and not just a rendition, but some tracks were replaced (paranoid was one track replaced by breaking the law). I learned about Secret of Mana from a schoolmate who was roleplaying the stories and characters in the schoolyard. I eventually got it and beat it.

Street Fighter 2 Turbo was 1993 on SNES, Super Street Fighter 2 was 1994, which further proves your point in the video, DLC before DLC.

@@JohnRiggs yes, 1992 was SF2 WW, 1993 was SF2T, 1994 was SSF2, and if I remember correctly they all released in consecutive summers. Also I think the first Genesis SF2 was SF2 Special Champion Edition which was really Turbo/CE options and it was delayed until fall 1993 in the US, anyway.

I like The 7th Saga, I played it a lot as a teenager, but it is a hard game and it just gets harder as you go through it. Jurassic Park was an alright game. The lack of a save function in such a huge complex game was a major problem.

I know it wasn't on SNES because Acclaim had the console rights for the Simpsons duing the 16-bit era but the Simpsons Arcade Game would've looked fine on SNES assuming that Konami would've used the same graphics engine as TMNT: Turtles in Time. I wish Konami could've worked something out with Acclaim even if it meant Acclaim releasing it under their own label.

Some other RU-vidrs have covered it, but the SNES port of Captain America & The Avengers was just complete garbage and should have been at least as good as the Genesis version, if not better. Technologically, I think those Konami arcades beat 'em ups like Simpsons and X-Men could have been pretty good for the SNES, if not arcade perfect. I think Capcom had the X-Men license for the SNES. X-Men Mutant Apocalypse was pretty fun on the SNES, btw.

Not a lot of people mentioning Buster Busts Loose in the commets, makes me wonder if it's an obscure game not a lot of people played... but yes, it was cool. Very easy though, a breeze to run through, but I really remember liking how wallrunning made the levels FEEL different from other platforming game levels, like Sonic and Mario.
