I remember watching the All Blacks in 2014 in the Principality stadium vs Wales. Two countries fanatical about rugby and both of them absolute titans at it clashing in a massive stadium. It was brilliant watching them and despite 90% of the people in the stadium being welsh, they had a thunderous applause afterwards. It absolutely PUMPED 75000 people in the stadium ready for the two best teams in the world doing what they do best at their national and traditional games.

But I don't expect it, so I'm not surprised that many people don't know of the Haka...hey I don't know traditional challenge rituals from many other countries either., do you?...And secondly, this is a video about basketball. If it were a international rugby match, then because of how big a part the All Blacks are on that scene, then most people watching this clip would have some knowledge of the Haka already.

That's because the All blacks are the greatest rugby team the world ever seen...........they just destroy everything on their path, 3 times World cup champions .....so its understandable that their Haka are more fearsome and more intimidating than other sports " in which the NZ national team participates.......... Its the same reason why we never seen NZ " All white" football team performs Haka in any match , because they are not football " powerhouse" ....and usually they get poor results as opposed to the " All blacks" rugby team......

King Loz It's a dance they would do before going to war. How is that respect? It's origins clearly lie in intimidation, and people can hide being the guise of respect but show respect by being competitive. Here's a crazy idea. Spend less time practicing coordinated dances and more practicing the sport you're competing in and maybe they'd be able to show respect DURING the game, instead of before the inevitable domination.

so this is about accepting a challenge, in the face of battle win or lose this ritual is about acknowledging your opponent and that they have come to test you and that the test has been accepted but also the challenge has been returned. ultimately it is about respecting your opponent and letting them know that you will do everything possible to give it your all and regardless of the outcome you will come with it, this was also a maori ancient ritual used before war to fire up warriors for battle, a challenge to be accepted by your adversary theres a story of the maori battalion who fought in the middle east during ww2 where faced with huge odds and outnumbered by the Germans the maori stood alone, knowing they faced imminent death they embraced this challenge and cried out with a fierce haka upon hearing this war cry the entire German battalion there got scared and retreated lol, this is a proud traditiion and i am honoured to call myself a maori from aotearoa!!
