Instead of boiling the cabbage you can freeze the whole head and when it thaws the leaves will be tender just like they have been boiled. Just learned this tip recently and it is a game changer.

Britt Corley ,,,,I find freezing the cabbage leaves a distinct taste in it. Not as nice as boiling the cabbage.

I was born in Poland. My mother made the best stuffed cabbages. Leaves were NEVER boiled. Young cabbage only and absolutely only pork! Then stew them for about 5-7 days!

These rolls look delicious, can’t wait to try them! Since I live alone, it seems that these rolls would be perfect cause I could cook up two-three of them in a small vessel for a filling and satisfying meal. Seems cabbage doesn’t reheat all that well. And, freezing cabbage seems to pretty much turn it to mush. But, I think that the meat/veggie filling would freeze just fine, in portions perfect for just one meal. So, being able to cook just enough for one meal is crucial to the perfect cabbage rolls. Thanks for the recipe, all your offerings are top notch.

I also add chopped mushrooms. And sautéed the veggies in coconut oil , cool the add to the meats. A Croatian version bakes smoked pork ribs on top. A German version is just stuffed with sauerkraut. Tip: rinse kraut 3 times.

CAMPBELLS TOMATO SOUP, straight from the can, added to the sauce tastes very good with this. A can of plum tomatoes, crush with hand, with crushed garlic, a little cabbage water and CAMPBELLS TOMATO soup, poured over the cabbage roles is delicious. Don't buy jarred marinara sauce for pasta with this dish. POMI TOMATO SAUCE in the box is another good choice. Tomato juice can be added, also. SACRAMENTO CANNED TOMATO JUICE has a completely different flavor than CAMPBELLS TOMATO JUICE, when used in cooking. SACRAMENTO is my preference. Looks delicious! Thanks for your upload!

Dot you are the best. Being keto I have really missed cabbage rolls now I can make them again thanks to you. Will definitely try this out. The way I made them for years was I added bacon to my meat mixture. Will do it your way with the addition of bacon. Thanks again.

I made these yesterday and they were great and even better the next day. I've tried keto recipes before and wasn't to thrilled with them but these I'd make again. My husband cringed when I put in the cauliflower but when all said and done, no difference. Didn't even miss the rice. Thanks for the good recipe.😆

Just made these today...delicious!! I used 1/2 ground beef and 1/2 hot Italian sausage meat! I also added riced cauliflower to the mixture...you’d never know it was in there! I also shredded the unused cabbage and added it to my sauce! Just scrumptious!

Super! I just love these rolled in sauerkraut whole leaves, and with bayleaves and bacon in between all layers! And lots of thyme, as well as time - cooked for longer, with lots of sauce... mmmm delish, bravo!

Exquisite. Must taste so good. Thats the closest to how mum used to make them. Pork & Beef mince can't go wrong. Can also add chopped bacon is quite nice.

You can do unstuffed cabbage soup. Tomatoes, beef broth, broth, cabbage, garlic, scallion, cauliflower rice, chopped meat, finish with lemon juice and swerve

I core my cabbage and then put it in the freezer for a few days. When you take it out, put it in a sink with cold water and the leaves just pull away. No waste and no burnt fingers.

We use tomato soup to put over this with 2 cups water mixed with 2 or 3 beef bouillon cubes..delicious..😊

I LOVE cabbage rolls...will try this recipe. I always say cabbage rolls remind me of a savory bite of meatloaf stuffed into cabbage. BTW---I especially enjoyed the "cabbage music"...lol

For those using lean ground beef instead of extra lean ground beef, you want to add 1/8 cup bread crumbs to each pound of meat. The bread crumbs help control excess grease and firms up the meat filling.

You can, but there is a possibility the cabbage can become a soupy mess. Just depends on how much liquid they are holding. If cooking before freezing you want to bring the temperature of the rolls down slowly before freezing. I suggest putting them in the fridge (uncovered) and let them cool. Then put them in a freezer bag (with a little sauce too).

Hi Dot, Just wondering how did you get idea for that recipe? It's traditional Polish dish - gołąbki ( with rice of course). Is delicius- I know 😊. You can also try sauerkraut cooked with pieces of meat and mushrooms 🥂 .

I have my laptop on the counter,...and am making these right now! I have never made cabbage rolls in 30 years of marriage...so here goes nothing!....but...I have made a lot of Dot's recipes, and they all are great~! Esp. that Chicken Spinach casserole...so I am sure this will be awesome too! Oven Temp:: I am baking these in a casserole in the oven...what should the oven temp be? And for how long? Ideas for all the leftover cabbage that is left?

These rolls are called 'holoptsi' in Ukraine and 'golumpki' in Poland. The dish is very popular in the rest of eastern Europe and in Russia, too.

A few things. First, that looks amazing and I can't wait to make and try, then make for my sister, the low carb/keto sceptic who loves stuffed cabbage rolls. Second, my biggest pet peeve is when someone pours something from a cup or bowl, but doesn't scrape, leaving half a cups worth of sauce. Thank you for scraping that measuring cup out! I know, I'm nuts. Third, would using an egg be too much if you are trying to meet your fat macros or would this be a good way to meet them? Just curious on your take.

I feel you on the scraping, lol. I try to reduce the amount of scraping shown on screen because of our quick/fast expectations from RU-vid, but I always scrape. As for your question, sure, you could add eggs. Note that this dish has a surprisingly high amount of fat already, but it could always use more.

I bet these would freeze great. Could freeze per two portion. Being that is a serving size. Ground chicken with spinach for stuffing with keto Alfredo sauce instead of tomato base sauce might be another option. God bless you for sharing with us.

That is how I make them most of the time but with all hamburger and I add garlic. Sometimes I use v8 juice with the sauce. My question is when exchanging the rice with store bought cauliflower, do I mix it frozen and just broke apart or do I thaw it before mixing or cook it before mixing. I don't want it to turn to mush so assuming I use it frozen and broke apart.

These are without a doubt the neatest most perfect looking cabbage rolls! Where's the dill? I am not sure exactly where in Eastern Europe my great grandparents came from but they always used dill in cabbage rolls and in their beet borscht. I'm going to sub the parsley for dill. Used to grow it in our back yard, now in an apt. and have to plan my cooking around the availability of dill. Great vid!

Do I need to cook the cauliflower rice or just use it raw ? I don't know if I can find store bought so would love to know if it's precooked or raw?

I use it raw. It will cook when you cook the cabbage rolls.

Was your sauce from a jar or homemade? If jar which brand is lowest in carbs? If homemade what was your recipe?

Rao's tomato sauce is the lowest carb I've seen, and delish. As for the homemade, I added it into the youtube description (link to a video I did). Cheers :)

I just did your poll on split screen and have to say if you could move the closeup over to the side then u can see what you’re doing in the full view it would b better. Finding it annoying covering up the full picture. Just my take. Thanks for all u do.

yep, ,you can freeze. I'd freeze each separately and airtight (as possible), so they don't stick together.

I worry they'd be too mushy if you did that :( One thing you'd wanna do (if you try) is to undercook the cabbage in the first stage and store them raw, then bring out later and cook. Hope that helps :)

I have to be very careful with my sodium due to high bp and kidney stones. Is this diet possible as low sodium too?

My recommendation would be to work with a doctor who understands and supports low carb diets. Generally, you need more salt on a low carb diet. High carb diets tend to accumulate salt in the kidneys. Again, please do your research and find that doctor.

I keep the cabbage water boiling and reused it when cabbage leaves we’re sticking. That tip make removing the leaves a breeze. Also, the tip for slimming the rib makes rolling so much easier. Thanks for sharing!
