Thanks for the honest and based reviews! I love the fact that you took the time to test so many paints, so many pressures and so many brushes.

I watched this to get another opinion on Gaahleri. You surprised me when trying to paint using 50psi. I have revered gone over 25psi when using my airbrushed. However I liked your conclusion. It is a very complete and thorough review, I will be watching more of your channel in the future.

I think 50psi works well for my practice & scale or work. For tiny miniature models, it might be too much. Thanks for watching & commenting.

Please forgive me in advance if I sound too critical but I have been looking for a good /decent airbrush , around $120 or so Canadian, so after watching this show and tell video for 15 minutes you sound like you are more impressed with how much bang one would get with one's buck rather than how impressive this gun truly performs.the only comment I keep hearing about this gun is, it's a good " beginners gun" but not comparable to even the cheapest Iwata and similar more expensive brand, if I'm looking for above average gun, I would still go for a cheaper Iwata, would you?
@DeeJayBeStudios
@DeeJayBeStudios 6 месяцев назад
I would stick with Iwata personally, yes. My Eclipse will last forever more. And in most other reviews, this is the same response & recommendation. The Mobius is decent for the price. But for my level of work, I need a higher quality product.

If you keep blasting molasses thick paint thru those poor airbrushes at 50 psi much longer, they won't last at all 😮😢 OMG CAR painters don't spray at that pressure 😮 LOWER your air pressure down to 25 PSI MAX !!!! you'll NEVER get decent performance out of the Mobius at over 20, Mobius. 0.3 needs 10 to 18 psi to show you what it can do. Also the Eclipse HP-CS works best at pressures Up to 30 psi with automotive paints. For typical hobby paints, the HP-CS gives best results at between 10 and 25 psi. Other than that, your channel is very enjoyable!! Please don't take my criticism hard, I'm just trying to help😊 David @ Scale Model Mayhem. #myiwata. #iwatamodeling

I have a GHAC-98D and a Mobius 0.2. The Mobius is new so I haven't used it yet. For the 98-D I use about 16 to 20psi and haven't ever gone over 25. I mostly spray Vallejo Airs, Primer, Mocha and Metal. Army Painter Airs. Green Stuff Dipping Inks and Interference. Citadel various. Most of them require a little thinning, but that's the same for all the brushes I have.

I find I need higher pressures for the scale at which I normally paint. For miniatures, less is more. I still can’t get the kind of control I like out of the trigger on these brushes.

I love that you did the head to head comparison between the Gaahleri and Iwata airbrushes. My first airbrush was an Eclipse and I now own both the Gaahleri GHAD-39 and GHAD-68 airbrushes. I find the Gaahleri brushes work great for base coats and basic shading, but with the needle sizes the advanced airbrushes have I don't use them for any detail work, I have an H&S Evolution with a .2mm needle for that. I tend to work at around 20 psi, less for detail work and sometimes going up to 30 for thicker primers or varnishes on miniatures that are almost all much smaller than your horse models. For the basic stuff I find the Gaahleri brushes to work very well even if they're not quite as smooth as the Eclipse,which to be fair is 3 - 4 times the price of the GHAD-39 (which as far as I can tell is identical to the 68 other than the trigger style) so I agree that the Gaahleri is a great value and would recommend it for a beginner airbrush. I haven't tried the Mobius since I already had the others when it came out, but I've beem tempted to get the .2mm version to see how it compares to my H&S. I don't really need another airbrush though, so I've held off. Based on your review, it sounds like I'm probably not missing all that much.

I just got an email from Gaahleri that they are 1 year old today (06-15-2024) I bought both their Mobius 0.2 and 0.3 airbrushes. Very nice looking, well built and spray very well. The Mobius 0.3 rivals my Iwata Eclipse at less than half the cost. And Gaahleri's customer service is great. I disagree with the comment about being harder to clean. Using water and alcohol based acrylic paints, it doesn't take any longer to clean the Mobius airbrushes than my Iwata Eclipse or my GSI Creos airbrushes. Inter-dental brushes make it easy to get into the paint way to the nozzle and a common q-tip cleans the area below the cup quickly. And the cup can be removed and soaked while cleaning the rest of the brush. I've been using airbrushes of various brands for almost 50 years and I have to say Gaahleri has definitely caught my attention.

It is not fair to try to compare the Mobius 0.3 to an Iwata Micron ( the micron uses a 0.15 or 0.18 nozzle for very fine lines.) They are totally different. The 0.3 is more comparable to the Iwata Eclipse (similar nozzle size). And the Mobius 0.3 is less than 1/4th the price! If you want to compare something to the Micron, get a GSI Creos PS-771. Some Micron owners have actually used the PS-771 front end on their microns!

I disagree with the idea of budget brushes for beginners. I mean it really depends on what you want to do with it. For most modelers I think a cheap brush is probably fine. What you do is a but more specialized and tight detail is a must. As it is with what I do ( fantasy art and custom paint). The Eclipse is probably the most recommended brush for beginners. That's one level below what I would recommend in the Iwata line. I would throw down the few extra bucks for the HP-C Plus. H&S and GSI also have some equivalent offerings. I just don't find the Eclipse to be that great of a brush. I never use mine.
@DeeJayBeStudios
@DeeJayBeStudios 2 месяца назад
I agree. You get what you pay for. The Eclipse is sufficient for my needs. I still use it regularly.
@JerryAndersonJr
@JerryAndersonJr 2 месяца назад
I love my Gaahleri. You really need to come down on your air pressure for detail. Pushing 30-50 psi is way too much. For detail work you should be down around 7-15 psi. With that pressure, you can make ANY brush put down fine detail.
@DeeJayBeStudios
@DeeJayBeStudios 2 месяца назад
The lower pressures cause speckling. This is what I’ve found to work best in my practice.
@JerryAndersonJr

@@DeeJayBeStudios try a different mix. Just because it says you can use it straight from the bottle to the airbrush doesn’t mean you can. You said in the video that Vallejo was thicker, then you should thin it. Not all “airbrush ready” paints are the same viscosity.

I am a relatively experienced scale modeler. I enjoy watching airbrush reviews solely for the purpose of mild comic relief. Please understand this comment has NOTHING to do with DJB or her work, it does have something to do with the content and the contrast with things like her Micron and Eclipse (I own the latter and would never waste money on a Micron). The thesis I’m positing is that for 95% of modelers, airbrushes mostly perform at the same level. It appears to me after watching and reading scores of airbrush reviews that there is some degree of conspicuous consumption. I own twelve airbrushes. I won’t bore you with the brands but suffice it to say they run the gamut from Amazon Master airbrushes to expensive Harter & Steenbeck and Iwatas. To show my utter disdain for snooty reviewers who somehow believe that they and they alone are possessed of some unknowable and unprovable airbrush alchemy, I often like to comment on some reviewers. Again, leave DJB aside. It appears her work is highly detailed and requires a consistent air pressure and brush cleanliness. But for the large majority of scale modelers like me, I can coax the same level of performance from my Master go to airbrushes as I can from my higher end brushes like Iwata and H&S. So, why bother dropping $600 plus on something for which to most human eyes could never discern any difference as to paint quality? In fact, I just returned my H&S brush to Spraygunner because it’s open faced nozzle had a nasty tendency to clog routinely. Please don’t tell me that I wasn’t using it correctly or using proper retarder etc. I know of what I speak. I couldn’t rely on my expensive H&S to spray ANYTHING 50% of the time, so back it went. This fact tends to prove my point. My cheapo Master brushes don’t clog. I am NOT saying that there isn’t ANY difference among the scores of brushes out there, but I must scoff at the notion that expensive brushes deliver high quality results. BTW, why is DJB using such high psi’s on her work? You’re going to get sputter and whatnot at 50 psi. I’m guessing that the type of paints she’s pushing through her brushes require a swift kick in the rear to make it out of the nozzle. But, once again, I think airbrush issues can usually be traced to the user, not the brush. I had the same observation about firearms and shooting. Shooters who complained about gear most often missed the larger problem of the shooter’s own problems, not the weapon. As for brushes, I’ll leave you (if you’re not too bored to finish this post): I simply have an anaphylactic reaction to modelers who turn their noses up at anything, but the expensive, shiny airbrushes. 95% of issues with airbrushing have to do with the painter, modeler, air pressure, paint thinning and so on. The idea that for the large majority of users expensive brushes make all of the difference is pure cant. The difference in performance is hard to descry and is infinitesimally small. There is possibly that 5% gap for users who’s work demands pinpoint accuracy, but again, any good modeler can coax equal results from a broad range of brushes. I know this post will ruffle the feathers of some fops and dandies who enjoy prevarication when it comes to honesty on this issue. So be it. I would guess that a large segment of the modeling and design community would tend to agree with my thesis. I’m waiting for people to put words in my mouth such as accusing me of stating propositions I never made. The most obvious one will be that I’m saying that there is never a difference in outcomes and quality. That’s the 5% figure I threw out. Hope to hear from you.

I agree there is some level of similarity between standard brushes- they preform and feel the same. However these cheaper airbrush were much less smooth than the Iwata brushes. To a degree that is frustrating for my own work. How I use the airbrush is much different than other kinds of simple painting. I need the precision. The micron was 100% worth the money in my situation, and I will continue to recommend it to others looking for similar. It is not the same as the others. It is an incredible tool. A one time purchase of $600 is much better than spending $600 on lesser models that don’t come close. I spray at a higher psi due to the scale of models I paint. I switch to lower psi for certain applications. Model horses require advanced technique. These Gahleri brushes missed the mark for me. Price aside. Brand aside. The Iwata brushes are just better. I have never felt the need to seek any other brushes for my fleet. This sponsorship made it clear that I made the right choice in my purchase. With 7 years of experience, the brushes do not act different despite my process in using them. Airbrush is an art. I will never put someone down who is learning to use the tool. But I will recommend the tool that gives the least amount of fight in those early days.

@@DeeJayBeStudios I’m so embarrassed. I knew I shouldn’t have written that post. I tried to explain that I wasn’t referring to you since your profession relies on equipment so much. It’s like handymen vs professional mechanics. Handymen (myself included) have plenty of tools, some cheap, some nice, but real mechanics use tools like SnapOn which cost a fortune but are made for professionals. They use tools like this because their livelihood depends on high quality. But when it comes to my scale modeling hobby, im decent but pretty much a schlub. Not. On. Your. Level. So, I guess my point was mostly that for the majority of users, cheapo Amazon brushes like Master are good enough, and maybe have a decent brush too laying around, but your studio certainly relies on you having the best gear and Micron is certainly one of those. So, please don’t misunderstand me and I apologize if anything I said came off the wrong way. I enjoyed watching your video and your work is amazing.
