I've been trying to work out what the best bike that I've owned is and I've narrowed it down to two.
It's tough to beat the versatility of the Street Triple or the charisma of the Moto Guzzi V7.
Every bike offered something individual, every bike suits a slightly different purpose and I think it would take a fleet to keep me completely satisfied.

I finally was able to afford an RnineT, I have allways thought I was never gonna be able to get one. Got an epic deal with the high rise Akra exhaust and it was the 2016 model with only 8000 km on it. My point is, I get your sentiment. I will not part with this one until it can go no more - Then i'll buy another RnineT.

Got myself a V7 Carbon yesterday... I love it. So much character, the engine, the sound... Honestly, it goes as a "second-bike" for specific purposes, but I love it and I think I will never sell it... Sure, your videos pointed me a little bit towards it, so cheers for that... and keep up the great work!

Congratulations you’ve bought yourself a cracking bike. I own an 07 in red and white and wherever I park it a crowd is drawn to her good looks. She’s not only pretty but an excellent performer, commuting and out on day rides. The performance and handling is above average and I am always, always out the front of the pack. Yesterday I did a 700km ride and felt pretty fresh when I got home. We did the 700kms in 7hr56mins (riding time) at an average speed of 85kph and a top speed of 215kph. I absolutely love my bike and I’m sure you will too.

Bought my 2014 Stone as a wrecked bike from a local auction house to part out. Took one look at it and put on the rack for a once-over. Yup, I'm riding this little bitch right now. All appearances a wreck can be as slow as some poor dude having a brain fart , dumping the clutch, bike jets out from under him and splat. Natural position accomplished. Off the rack, dealer plates and ZOOM! I have a long history loving machinery and this bike won me over. (I was between bikes at the time). I proclaimed "This bike doesn't get stripped, it's MINE"! So hands off. I live in the PNW so the Sport Demons gotta go. I was a big Metzler fan when I had a Katana and know they are fabulous in the rain. I've been on some really great bikes in this business and this one really struck a chord with me. There's just something about it. It talks to me. My quick "therapy" rides have churned out some 800 miles in the last year and I couldn't tell you where the hell I went. Might not sound like that many miles but you have to understand it developed a huge running rich on left bank issue I only recently traced back to the evap system, bike was down for months until I could take an objective look. Missed the best riding season, worth the freeze ride when it's dry out now. I make do. Smiles per gallon.

Currently own a 1989 Moto Guzzi Mille GT 1000 and a 2013 Moto Guzzi V7 Stone. The Mille once took me 120+ miles on a Sunday morning at highway speed on one cylinder when a plug wire crapped out and of course no shops were open. Pulls like a tractor. I have owned Moto Morini, Ducati, Cagiva, Laverda, BSA, Indian, Triumph, Zundapp, Suzuki and Kawasaki. No other bike puts the smile on my face as does the MG V7 Stone. Reliable, pretty, and within my weight limit for a bike as I am almost 70 years old. Will stick with Moto Guzzi--Mike Battle

Great video. I've had a few more bikes than you but I'm also 62 and riding since my first moped at the age of 12 . I think that I'm on number 13 at the moment, hopefully I don't jinx it . Out of the 13 some memorable like 77 Yamaha RD 400 , 77 Honda Goldwing ( naked ) just to name a couple . At the moment I've got 2 bikes with one being for sale . Leaving me with my brand new still at the dealer till the snow melt ( April ) Moto Guzzi V7 850 special. This is my fourth brand new bike and if all goes well it could possibly be the very last bike that I own but who knows. Out of your bikes so far that 250 4cyl kawasaki must of been a blast to ride around . Keep up the videos , good job , ride safe .

Moto Guzzi for the win. I got one, put almost 7000 miles on it in first 9 months. Every ride is like the first one. Love that shiny thing ✌🏽🤘🏽

Congratulations on the new bike. We (wife and I) are Street Triple fans. She has owned two from 2012, a purple one with the underseat exhausts and the 2015 with the under slung exhaust. As I've been riding nearly 40 years I've had a few bikes...... did a vid about them on my channel if you are really lockdown bored. MT10 is my vote for best bike I've ever owned, I know you like the noise it makes.

As usual Tim a grate vidoe Buddy!! I really enjoyed this nostalgia trip of yours and that made me think about my ex motorcycles and as U said everyone of them had a moment where you think "damn that is a good motorcycle". I must say I do miss my old Triumph Daytona 955i :) it was special for me because I popped my track day cherry / knee down on it. But then my BMW R1100S was my first bike and first bike I took thru Europe and I basically learn how to ride a motorcycle on it plus it was my teenage dream bike so buying it was a dream come true moment! The Suzuki GSXR 1000k4 was just nuts crazy fast but epick adrenaline rush every time you opend it up on a track or a road sadly the pay aria was 50-150mph so old Bill didn't like us playing to much so it had to go or my licence would go! And now the Big Guzzi my sensible man speed bike that makes me wanna ride it every time I see it!! If You don't look twice at your motorcycle every time you leave it somewhere you know You bought the wrong one!! Plus it's an odd ball with it's shaft drive and a transverse 90 degrees Twin plus it's heavy but on a right road it just flies and that is what you want from your bike I think. That everytime you ride it it gives you that motorcycle "buzz" you felt first time you had been riding a motorcycle. I fairly enjoyed this thip donw the memory lane with you and if U not that busy give us a shot we can pop somewhere for a spin obviously we will be fallowing social distancing!

Great video! The superfour was the first motorcycle I'd ever sat on the back of. My dad took me out on one in 2009 and since then I was dying to get my own motorcycle. I now own a 390 Duke and love every second of it. I'm leaning towards going for a striple for my next bike.

Very enjoyable & interesting vid, a bit pub chat like which is cool. I'm also fond of a Guzzi but never owned one. Just waiting for them to put their new engine in to a V7 or Griso chassis. As for bike list as you asked, 90 TZR125, 94 RGV250, 98 GSXR600, 03 SV1000S, 06 GSXR750 & 08 RSV1000R. Best bike was the GSXR750 & the nicest was the RSV, although cripplingly uncomfortable. Should have bought the Tuono! Not ridden for 9 years due to kids etc but the time is nigh & pondering an SV650, partially due to your review.

I had a CB1300 for two years and loved it. One of the bikes I've owned that I regret selling and like you I've had a few. I took the CB1300 to the top of Norway and back and it didn't miss a beat! I still have a chain and sprocket set for it if you're in the market (selling it cheap) for it or own the bike long enough to need such a thing...

I bought a V7 II as my first “big bike” on the strength of your review (and a test ride, obviously). I love it, and I’ll never get rid of it, whatever else I happen to acquire along the way. I’m over 50 and the riding position of sports bikes doesn’t er, suit me any more. I’m new to biking and being inexperienced feel that it’s predictable enough to be well within my capability - but has plenty more capability itself as I improve. It always seems to be a talking point with other bikers when I park it up. So thanks for your review - without it, I’d never have heard of the V7 and I’d probably being enjoying life less, lubing the chain of a T100 every week. As to my bike list, I’ve got a Yamaha XV (mine is reliable and I love the relaxed riding position) and a 1949 BSA Bantam D1. Cheers

I dont know what it is Tim but your videos and reviews are by and large some of my favorites. Your method of delivery (sort of cocky but self deprecating at the same time oddly lol) and the bikes you ride -- feel I share the same sense of humor and style of bikes that you like to ride. I got a Moto Guzzi V7 Stone recently (Mk II just like yours). I'm a brand new rider so I'm not super familiar with all the different bikes out there. But I saw a video years ago of the Moto Guzzi V7 Racer and its been my dream bike for maybe 6 years. Got it since a friend knew I liked them and he just happened to come upon the ad. Everything locked into place and hell, I bought it (everything just clicked you know?). She has a modified exhaust but you're absolutely right about the exhaust note. Its one of those things that you don't realize speaks to you until you hear it. Everytime I start it up, it makes my heart beat just a little bit faster haha. Anyway, I'll wrap it up. Great vid. Can’t think of a single more informative MC vid on RU-vid. Real biker spending his own hard earned on a good variety. Good to get confirmed again that the ST & MG V7 are superb. I’m on a Duke 790 and it’s v.good. Bike I shouldn’t of sold is a Yamaha Bolt XV950R cruiser. Only 49 hp on the dyno but a lot of torque and fun.

That's one of the best comments I've ever had, thank you. I really like the idea of a yamah bolt, always like it as an alternative to the sportster. Might have to track one of those down at some point.

Yam Bolt sounds great if u change the airbox for a Cobra. (£200) No need to change exhaust. Hear that big old air cooled 950 V-Twin breathe like a beast. Decent (for a cruiser)

Still on my first owned bike, Ducati Monster 696. Has no ABS, no traction control, air-cooled, and almost completely analog. It hates low speeds but loves 60-120mph. It's loud as all get out and very fun to ride, I beat almost everything on the road in 0-60. I plan to keep it even when I upgrade to my next bike, Triumph Thruxton RS. I have a thing for naked/cafe bikes. Monsters, Thruxtons, r9t, sports classic, street fighter. I, unfortunately, have no interest in cruiser nor sportbikes.

Dude that moto guzzi v7 sounded SO good I can't believe you sold it! I now own a 2018 street triple rs, and it's definitely the best bike I've ever owned, but man that guzzi!

I can't remember how many bikes I have (but only two of them actually run). Looked at three V7's yesterday. Can't decide on the 2016 or a brand new one. Snow will be melting soon, so I have to decide!

The most schizophrenic mcycle stable prize? Folks, we have a winner! Following your Street Triple with a 250 Balius? Were you flogging yourself medieval-style over the guilt of having your Triumph stolen? Still, one must appreciate your commitment to playing the field in dancing with every girl in the club. And you clearly have a taste for rarity (gems?, the jury's still out). Having been blessed with test rides of a decent variety of bikes, I'll say that the perfect blend of character, performance, comfort and quality is elusive. I'm not sure you're starting in all the right places, but best of luck on your quest. And congrats on another enjoyable video.

Yeah I go through seasons but I'm glad to say I rarely regret a purchase, apart from the virago obviously. The balius was a neccesity, I medically needed two wheels because I was having withrawls and I had to borrow the 600 quid off my dad, she served her purpose and I sold it for the same money. Honestly though even I don't know what comes after the Honda. Any suggestions?

@@RarefiedRoad Brand new used bike and already thinking about the next one? Sounds like you. If you were talking new, the field would be narrower and simpler. There, I could see you enjoying the new 890 Duke R, Ducati Scrambler 1100, Triumph Speed Twin (or more affordable Scrambler), or, if you insist on being different, Aprilia Dorsoduro 900. But since you play the "pre-owned" field, you're spoiled for choices. Since you're keen to try the full diversity of bikedom, here are a few options that may intrigue you: KTM 690 Duke (a single); KTM 990 Super Duke; Honda VFR (v4); Aprilia Caponard (tall rider = tall ADV bike); early Ducati Hypermotard; Suzuki Bandit 1200 or Yamaha FZ1; Honda Superhawk or Suzuki TL1000S (twins); late 70s Moto Guzzi Le Mans; 70s-80s BMW R80, K100 or K75 (triple!). If you want to be weird, find a V-Max. Or bite the bullet and buy a Harley (Sportster 1200?) just to say you've done it.

Been subscribed here for a while now, and think your reviews are spot on and informative. I have 4 bikes and two are Moto Guzzi. Also have a Triumph Speed Triple ABS LE, and a BMW R9T. I got asked the other day which was my favorite and I said the one I am riding at that particular moment which is 100% the truth.

Yeah that's pretty true actually. I'd say my favourite at the minute is my CB1300 but that will probably get replaced by whatever comes next. Nice collection of bikes BTW pretty decent amount of variety.

I think my favorite to ride is my GTM 02.2. Here is a link of it on my buddy's website. He is the builder of these magnificent custom built Moto Guzzi. I currently own the only one of these in existence and it was the prototype for his second bike in his line of custom builds. Let me know what you think of it since you are kind of a big Guzzi fan. Spot on summary of both the Street Triple and the V7. I had a Street Triple R for a couple of years, loved it, only problem was wind protection and luggage capacity for touring. Traded it in for an MV Turismo. That was an absolute hoot, comfortable, quick, great handling, and good for touring. Only problem was my local delaer closed down, next closest was 2.5 hours away, and it had several warranty issues. then had a couple of KTMs. Currently have a 790 Adventure for touring, and a Guzzi V7 Racer for fun. Do keep looking at Grisos though.

That 790 engine is a wonderful creation. Nice variety you've got with those two as well, I'd say you've got most riding occasions covered.

I bought my v7 2008, 1 owner with 10k miles as a garage find, non runner. It only needed a new battery and fresh fuel and shes alive again! The best bit is what i paid for her.....£200! I wish i could post a picture of before and after but 3 days of cleaning and its probably worth £2500-3000 now! 😆. I still love the RR6 fireblade and the 1966- riumph bonneville thruxton replica but the Guzzi at that price is a joy with cheap-ish cans on.

I completely agree, I've owned over twenty street bikes, and the only bike I've owned twice is a street triple r. It hits the sweet spot for weight, power, and handling.

Always a treat to see your vids pop up in my sub list, great watch as always. Riding since I was 17, currently 30 and on bike #15! Much like yourself I get bored quick and want to ride as many as possible. Xl125 varadero, yzfr125, bandit 600, dr350, drz400, cbr600f, Ktm 640, bandit 1200, zzr600, cbr600rr, Harley sportster 1200, er5, ybr125, tiger 1050 and currently a ropey old fazer 600. Worst bike? Harley. Best bike? Harley. Never buy again? Harley. What do I want next?........Harley. Stay away from Harleys, you should totally try one.

I own a Stone exactly as yours only I kept the stock pipes (love the subdued exhaust note). I will die owning this bike. It's home for me. Try an XT for some off road fun and overall skill enhancement. Insightful Video, especially enjoyed your take on the Griso. I have toyed with the idea. Thanks.

My favorite of a lifetime of riding was a 1961 BMW R69S with the Earls fork ..If you ever get a chance to try one give is a go ..The older BMWs have this thing of being so neutral that it takes 20,000 miles to realize just how good they are ... Almost the same story with my 1979 BMW R80 ...Lower HP with a stable suspention means you can do lots more at 80% of the bike instead of the 120 HP bikes that you use 40% of their chops .. Great stories .That one road you were riding the Street Triple on looks like the road Nottingham Roadcraft uses a lot ... Maybe on the way to Matlock .. :) .Thanks for the clip ...

I've always wanted to ride an old BMW with the Earls fork. Currently have an R80, but the gas tank leaks, so I have to coat the inside before I can get back on it.

Great reviews. My bikes in two years have been Suzuki ls650, street twin, and now v7iii Milano. I love the style of this Guzzi and it is super charming but it’s just missing....something. It feels. Old? Rough? But the handling is amazing. That said, this week I’m trading it in for a Kawi Z900. It’ll be more modern. Smoother. In line 4. Manageable And better suited to my lifestyle where I don’t have a garage so future maintenance won’t bother me. I have a feeling, like you, I’ll miss it but if it’s only been a few months and I’m already a little bored by it...best to move on now. Stay well, my friend.

I think that's sound reasoning. What I'd probably say about the V7 is like you on a really clear day I just wanted something a bit faster so if I ever get the chance to own two bikes that's going to be my chilled out charismatic anomaly. The Z900 is a brilliant bike and I think it's going to take a while to get bored of that one, at least I hope so. Enjoy.

Yeah, that Street Triple 675R is an amazing piece of kit. I wish I had kept mine. It's replacement is an Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory. 400#'s, 100HP/50 ft. Lbs. But, the 675 has sounds, intake, gear whine, overrun, burbles, pitch changes- I still miss that thing.

Thanks for interesting video and comments. What do you think about Triumph twins ? Try a Thruxton 1200 :) (or a T120, very torquey and comfortable in trafic or long trips, but I prefer higher revving thruxton)..

Had loads of bikes but I now have a Street Triple 765 and by far the best I've ever had. No better bike on the market, IMO, agree with you.

I had a V7 stone and like yourself loved it, and also sold it a bit too soon due to the lack of power. I now have a street triple rs which is quite simply the best bike I have owned, so share your taste in bikes, enjoyed the vlog thanks RR

Great video and great bikes. It’s a shame that grizo didn’t treat you better. I have a 2016 1200 I just put 8000 miles on it with not one issue. I think the one in your video was the 1100 if I’m not wrong The previous model. The 1200 is a blast it has more power And a blast to ride. and you’re right that sound is one of the most wonderful sounds coming from a bike.

I always was a Triumph guy, had a crashed Sprint ST 955 that I turned into a Sprint RST, had a crashed TT600 that I turned into a Speed Four and had a Street Triple R (2010, bought crashed) as well: It had the best suspension and brakes of all my bikes up today. What it lacked was an entertaining engine - especially if your everyday ride is a 650 single - you just want torque, not revs. Knowing that I would sacrifice weight and suspension it was sold for a Daytona 955 (2002). This one got a Speed Triple NJ rear end and a candy blood red painjob over the boring stock silver and is with me still. Funny thing is: At 54 I started to realize that the powerful bike came approx. 10-15 years too late and I am now on the lookout for a Guzzi after riding the neighbor boy´s V7. The V7 was fun in the woods, but overtaking on the road is something else. So it´s either V11 or Bellagio (to modify). PS: I had exactly your blue SV 650 S (2004) as well.

It's a set of mistral slip ons for the V7. I don't generally use a gimbal any more but I had an Evo Tech one when I rode with the Street Triple but I don't think they do it any more.

Love that you loved the Guzzi! I like and know that the Triumph is as you say a wonderful all around bike but I have as of yet not owned a motorcycle despite my experiences and now maturity. Only thing I worry about when going to buy the Guzzi is could I do a weekend or even day tour with the lady friend on the bike. Im not worried about going fast...just enjoying the ride but will such a small bike be up to the task? Thanks again! Love your vids!

When I first bought it people told me it was quite good for riding pillion. After trying it once or twice I think it is a bit small actually. It's certainly capable and the engine doesn't struggle too much for the extra weight but you'll need to dial that preload way up. All I'd say is there are comfier tools for that purpose.

The best bike I owned is probably not the best but the one that left a lasting impression. Yamaha RD350N, red and white colour vid a red seat. Twin twostroke engine 59HP and 160kg. As fast as a 750cc bike at the time in 1986. 18 years old and I went from a Honda 125 Twin with 16 hp to that monster was awsome and a giant leap for a young motorcyklist.

Let’s see... My first one was a 1961 Harley-Davidson 125 cc 2-stroke. It was my first taste of freedom, but very unreliable. #2 a 1969 Bridgestone 200 cc, I wore out 2 sets of pistons on it. Bultaco 360 Enduro, I think it ran about one week total, but handled very well. 1975 Honda 550 SS, a wonderful bike ($850 new) I kept it for about 6 years. Kawasaki 550, ran good but “loose” handling. BMW 1100 RT, another great bike. And now a 2016 Ducati 1200 Multistrada. A little big for me (5’6”), but a dream of a bike with careful handling.

I remember when you got the V7. You look abit tall for it aswel I'm sure is a factor which makes me wonder if a big tourer would suit you. I'm 5,11" and ride the V9 so it's somewhat different, it's funny I'd love to buy another bike but I know how much I'd miss the V9. Maybe a big cruiser one day for a change

My first one and my current is a 1996 Harley Sportster 1200 that i got this summer before i passed my license:P It has been nothing but problems but still i like the noisy little bugger. Will rattle your teeth loose. make you deaf and break down whenever its most inconvenient for you but it kinda has a soul also. dont really know how to describe it.

That V7 exhaust sound is very addictive, Moto Guzzi just needed to give it more power, I guess the new 850 does have that but being heavier it still seems insufficient . That's why I still have my old 2007 Moto Guzzi Bellagio. The performance, handling and noise is about right. I'm just about to fit a V7 tank to it so it will become the V7 Moto Guzzi should of made.

Great stuff - I always wonder what youtube vlogger’s bike histoires are. Yours seems to be similar to my own actually - only been riding since 2015 and in that time have had: ‘01 SV650 696 monster ‘11 Daytona ‘16 Street twin ‘09 fireblade Would be keen to try a v4 at some point.. but I’m feeling another twin next.

Nice line-up! Also had a late 90s sv650 as my first bike back in 2013, loved the character of that engine at the time. Had a BMW F800GT after that, reliable commuter, but a bit underpowered (great mpg though). Now settled down with a Kawasaki Z900rs and a Moto Morini Corsaro ZZ (If you get your girlfriend to ride too, a second bike is an easier sell).

@@eskimo427 I agree, when using it for fun rides with a lot of corners and I just kept it one gear lower than when doing a normal commute it really went. Loved owning it and put 60k km on it in 4 years, just the BMW service cost was a bit too high to stay with an official dealer for a new bike imo.

May I suggest the Ducati monster I had one and found it very reliable, amazing handling and quick enough for " b " roads with a exhaust note to die for it's possibly the best bike I've owned in fifty years of biking I currently have my first Harley so the jury's out on that at the moment , most unreliable bike was the Guzzi Breva which probably part bike and partly the seven owners prior to me

i've owned a lot of bikes over the years. Started out with a Vespa PX150E and always returned to Vespa over the years, there's something about them I love. But, swaped it several times for motorbikes, a Suzuki 3 cylinder 2-stroke which was a complete disaster overheating al the time (middle cylinder), Then a BMW R80 GS Paris-Dakar which I loved, comfortable, pretty reliable (occasionally not starting and one breakdown, soil blow out, 100K+ km). Had an accident with it and rode it several months later after revalidation and sold it (which I now regret). Then a Kawasaki 650 Zephyr, raw and reliable but nothing special. Followed by the Yamaha Majesty 250, comfortable and easy to use but no feel to it. Aprillia Moto 6.5, torque, danger and not really a daily rider. Harley FXRS, had it for one year and hated it, heavy, bad handeling. Vespa GTS 250 (2) as a daily commuter, simply worderfull and now joined by a Moto Guzzi V7 850 which was love at first site and still is after 4 months and 2500 km as my new daily commuter and reminds me of my BMW. Bikes are and where my way of transportation and I hope for many years to come on the Guzzi (which along with the Vespa shared with my sons).

Yeah I'm gutted it didn't work better. It had so much potential and I really wanted to like it. I've heard some others with similar stories about good little run arounds but I think you've really got to make sure it's been well looked after. As you say, mine must've been getting knocked together at closing time on a bank holiday.

After owning a zzr 1200 a yamaha fjr 1300 a honda crf 1000 a suzuki DR 650 a shadow 750 a burgman 650, the bike that I miss the most is the surprisingly CN250. In fact I am right now in the market for a mint one. There is just something about it, I don't know.

I missed the 2011 triple that much ( It looks like yours was the ‘11 model). I ended up getting another (765 ) last year. But at the end of summer...I’ve still yet to really play on it as I’m stuck overseas in lockdown ...BASTARD KUNG FLU! Recommend you test ride the new version...it’s more road friendly, more mid range torque..

I should actually thank you, @Rarefied Road. Your videos on the V7 ii and iii were a big reason I bought my V7iii Milano at the end of 2019. I got a new 2018 for pretty cheap: $7700US plus taxes and such, $9200 total. It's my first bike, and it really has proved a reliable and predictable bike on which to gain confidence, not to mention feel cool. Somebody eyef*cks Seraphina every time I take her out.

I just bought a V7 Stone S brand new (Hello money pit!). It's my second bike after a 8 year gap. First was a ninja 250. I love the Guzzi. Still in break-in period at just over 300 miles on the odometer. I will absolutely be putting pipes on it to take it out of "lawnmower mode" and an ECU remap to run it a bit richer and boost performance. Both from Guzzitech. Yes, kickstand is weird, I actually scraped mine at least once from what I assume was my lean angle during a turn combined with its weird design. LOL. Hand-built Italian character. Have to accept the quirks when choosing something so unique.

Ok, you asked for it! RS100, GPz305, CM250, CBX550, X7, CB750(78), GS550, bandit 6, bonneville (01), GT550, EN500, VN 750, CB750 (92), Bandit 12 and ER5. That's what I can remember anyway. Worst, VN750, like your virago but much worse. Best? Between the bonny and GS550. Wish I'd never got rid of the suzuki GS. It wasn't great but it had real feel good factor to it. Sold it to buy a brand new bandit 6 and HATED the bandit!

If you're looking at new bikes the Street triple is an obvious choice. CB is great and a bit cheaper than the Speed Triple, but the speed triple is a weapon and a little more mellow than the street triple because it doesn't need to work as hard. I went out on the CB the other day and it is a comfortable performer.

But I'm not able to test the cb or speed, I'm not like a push it to the limit person i like looks and something that moves well all over and of course sounds good but not obnoxious

The take away from this is, unless you own and ride a variety of motorcycles, you dont get to really know what a good bike is. After 36 years of riding, and going through the same process most riders do, from smaller to ever larger capacity and faster bikes, you get to a stage where older bodies and not so far reactions catch up with you, and lighter less powerfull bikes become a better bet. I did over 200,000 on an XJ900 as a courier, and after many accidents quit riding for some years. I got back to it a few years ago, currently riding a 650 Honda Revere. Im very tempted by a V7 Classic. I do not understand, apart from a styling excercise, why so many new road bikes have a seat angled up and more clearance above the rear wheel than many dirt bikes (even if the suspension does not have the travel), which make them difficult for people with old bones and dodgy hips to swing a leg over. The old "flat" style seat of the V7, and maybe the Kawasaki W650 get more attractive. Enjoy the CB1300, cant imagine what you pay these days for insurance on one of those. I dont suppose it will not be much different from an FJ1200 when it comes to consuming chains, tires and fuel. But hey, life is an experience, so enjoy it!

My first bike wsa a Hyosung GT650R 2008, the bike looked awesome and had decent performance for a v twin 650cc engine, but thats about the only positive thing I will say about it, everything else about the bike was utter garbage, both in due to it having had a previous owner that sort of fooled me into buying it and the fact that nobody in Austria wanted to help me with the bike and if you want to fix everything yourself even Hysoung has a shortage of parts, and by the time I decided to sell it the engine refused to start, needless to say it was a huge loss for my wallet, but I was happy I never had to stare at that damn thing ever again. My second and current bike is the Triumph Street Twin, bought the bike because I was VERY happy with performance, looks and customizability, the bike is also very well supported so if needed I can have it serviced. I don't think I will go for anything else (unless one day I can afford a Triumph T120), quality is WORLDS apart from my previous bike and the fuel injection is AWESOME.

The reason your V7 skipped out is not the suspension but the bloody awful demonic Pirelli tyres. Any other good make and the bike is glued to the road. Counter-intuitively the V7 also likes soft suspension, it has soft springs and good damping so you don't feel every nut and bolt in the road. You're probably used to sports bikes that do the opposite, hard springs and soft damping that rattle your eyeballs..
