Kendall’s acting is amazing!!! (Aka her screaming during Take Me Back just sounds like pure terror) Not to mention here singing skills!! I really loved in What If Tomorrow Comes when she sings comes (it’s so perfect). At only 14 she is already one of my top 10 Starkid actors. I can’t wait to see more from her!!
It was almost as if the songs were written specifically for these guys. Their abilities are highlighted incredibly well and I can't imagine anyone else who can do these songs justice. Like Lauren's songs highlighting her soprano as well as her lower soulful sound, and Angela's raspy alto adding so much more character to the songs I just can't with these guys!
Jeff Blim's chest voice is my easily my favorite thing. Because my mans has POWER (like his belt in Feast or Famine and his harmony in Wiggle??? My FAVORITE)
justdanyplz I absolutely adore his chest voice. I personally don’t care for his falsetto, but I know he enjoys singing in it. I just love his lower range so much.
Can we also start justice for Ethan because Lex never found out he died and that loose end and lack of an emotional scene is picking at my brain (plus Jamie stole his hat)
Theres something about lex's voice that I love so much. It's not a very musical theater like voice - she doesnt use vibrato, and her voice is just something so real and deep
[Insert edgy band names] it was a joke I’m not being serious😂 but I’d say most of them are on that quality especially Dylan him more so than anyone I’d say
OKAY YES I HOLLERED BC GOD. I know a lot of people get annoyed he gives himself so many but like that one played straight? Oh my actual god my heart skipped a beat
Noya Telias i was thinking the same thing until I realized Deb will probably be in it and Jaime has to play Deb... unless they find some way to work around that idk if that’ll happen. :(
Any time Jeff uses his falsetto seriously, I get instant chills. He usually just uses it for comedy like in What Do You Want Paul and TGWDLM (The song), but there and in Wagon On Fire he really kills it
Okay... look, dont kill me, but this recording has some serious flaws that made me question the skill of the audio mixer and the health of some of the performers. Starkid has wowed me with the quality of their musicals on RU-vid, but I was taken out of the story by some of these issues. Honestly, I am not trying to troll, just looking for some discussion on the points below. What if Tomorrow Comes is an example of excellent singing and impeccable mixing, so it's super disappointing that the below occured: The overall mix was subpar in these numbers: - Our Doors are Open : it was quite difficult to hear Cory over the chorus at some points - Feast or Famine : the music track overpowered the singers in general; I couldnt hear Lauren's voice AT ALL; Jeff's high discants- you can tell they used the sound from the stage, it's not a part of the mix, sounds tacked on, not a part of the ensemble. - Monsters and Men : the backing track too loud, even though Jeff's glorious voice is powerful, the track competed with, instead of supporting it. - Deck the Halls: overall mix, especially the 2nd chorus and after sounds like they just used the stage area recording, causing inconsistencies - Made in America : Joey is singing LIGHTLY in the opening lines, the electronic flute accompaniment is over powering him. the mix during the 4-part christmas chorale is uneven. WTF is up with the feedback on the effect for "it's been an honor to serve Vocal issues: - CaliforMIA : Robert was flawless, but Angela's intonation on the lower notes was spotty. - Adore Me: I am so conflicted about this song. Lauren is a light soprano, this song's tessitura is soooo low. Her voice loses its clarity and core on the lowest notes, and her intonation other low notes is inconsistent. If the overall key of the song was raised a few half steps I think it would help her a lot. I also wonder if Lauren was ill during this recording, which would account for the intonation/pitch issues which is NEVER a problem for her - Black Friday : really sad, but Angela's intonation on the 2nd verse wasnt great. I get that she is going for putting emotion into it, but she can obviously sing the right notes. This is another instance that makes me question her vocal health: is she ill, or just fatigued? - Wiggle : Lauren's voice sounds fatigued, and she uses a bunch of different vocal effects that dont always make sense. During the Carol of the Bells spoof, Lauren is not loud enough over the chorus, her low notes go in and out. Lighting issues that took me out: -Take me Back: I CANT SEE KIMS FACE when she is singing those beautiful notes. She's a great actress, let me see her face! - What if tomorrow comes : why is the light late on Kendall's face when she starts to sing?
I agree to an extent, but I still love the show anyway! I also didn’t/don’t notice all the flaws in it but you sound like you have an experienced ear for stuff like that.
Kristina Tullgren based off of what the cast was posting during the actual run of the show. It’s clear to me that there was sickness going around the whole cast. Also, in terms of Angela is CaliforMIA I am pretty sure the song was written with the intent of Mariah singing it. Which explains that even though it was tweaked from the original it’s still at bit rough. And yeah the mixing wasn’t the best
It’s been mentioned half the cast was sick during the recording. Like Kendall have strep throat the second half of the performances. Some of the people were pretty obvious. Like Joey was very hoarse and Lauren was having trouble. Not to mention both had very hard vocal songs that I’m sure took a tole of their voices.
I’ve also noticed Lauren and Joey being the only ones who use the voice growl in the show. As an actress I can say it is very hard on your voice if you do it consistently. Lauren uses a lot of vocal techniques that she’s never done before in a Starkid show. Doing 24 performances is hell on your voice and I don’t blame any of them for being weaker. Though this isn’t my favorite Starkid show I can tell they did their best even if they were all sick. But I do agree with a lot of what you are saying though
I saw this show live and the deck the halls interlude gave me massive chills. The harmonies echoing through the small theatre were inSANE, I almost feel like the recording doesn’t do it justice
I've said this many times, but Black Friday really changed my opinion on Jeff. I've always thought he was just kinda ok. I've also never really liked his falsetto, sorry Jeff stans, but this show completely changed that. The songs he not only wrote but delivered perfectly are (IMO) so much better than in TGWDLM (delivery wise, they're pretty equal in the way they're written) and I love him so much more now!
when i saw this in LA both kim, lauren, and kendall were sick and i could tell it wasn’t their best but i’m so glad they sound phenomenal in the recording
Me during the entire video: All I want is CaliforMIA with Robert and Angela singing together, the entire What if Tomorrow Comes, Corey being a AWESOME in Our Doors Are Open, 'Take me back in time to love you-through-light my heart and light my shadow' out of Take Me Back, If I fail You with Tom saying punishment won't match the crime and mountain part, and Black Friday whole song. That's all I want.
