Ship of Magic and Wisdom of Crowds are definitely on my favorites list too! And I’m super excited to read Empire of Silence once I’m done with Realm of the Elderlings😁
Wisdom of Crowds was my #1, too. I'm a bit bummed that there won't be anything new to read in '22 from either of my two favorites: Hobb & Abercrombie. At least, I don't think so. Guess it's time to broaden my world (adult epic fantasy-wise, anyway). Happy holidays, Liene!
Hey! I'm reading Skyward on your recommendation and I think I'm really going to like it. I always start with the Kindle sample to make sure. Yep! Love me some Brandon! Thanks. I heard negative reviews that thru me off. So I appreciate your review!!!!
Empire of Silence was magnificent, but Howling Dark and Demon in White are definitely better for me. They are all SO GOOD though and we get TWO MORE NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(I know no one asked 😅, but) the best books I've read in 2021 (so far) are The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber and The Corset by Laura Purcell (1st place ex aequo), The Colour by Rose Tremain (2nd place), The Betrayals by Bridget Collins (3rd place) and Cathedral of the Sea by Ildefonso Falcones - an honourable mention. My TBR for the end of the year is very promising, though, and I always end up adding new favourites in December and January. Two trilogies by Robin Hobb (I've already read two: Farseer and Tawny Man - ❤️❤️❤️ the Fool), The Heroes, Red Country, Sharp Ends and the entire Age of Madness trilogy by Joe Abercrombie, Can You Forgive Her? by Anthony Trollope, Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood, Unravel the Dusk and Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim... I won't be able to finish them all this year, for sure, but I will probably find new favourites.
I read The Winternight Trilogy this fall/winter, as well and LOVED The Girl in the Tower. What an amazing series. I agree that the third was good, but definitely not my favorite of the bunch, unfortunately. But really, really loved the series.

Love your videos! Do you read books or magazines while you’re on the toilet? If so, what do you enjoy reading while your there? I look forward to your future uploads!
I'm so glad to see Robin Hobb on the list! I think Ship of Magic was the weakest of the three in that trilogy (or well... At the very least the second one was the best by far) so I think you'll absolutely end up loving the series.
Empire of Silence definitely has its own charm. I love seeing Hadrian grow up. But I also think the mystery and weirdness just ramps up in the subsequent books. Howling Dark is my favorite so far.
yeah, I think you've just identified what it is - the first book is a bit more about getting to know Hadrian while the others are more about getting to know the mysteries of the universe, and I'm a character-driven reader
I just posted my favourite fiction of 2021 on my channel. My top 2 were: A Brightness Long Ago by Guy Gavriel Kay (an awesome standalone fantasy) and The Island of Sea Women by Lisa See. Your video convinced me that I need to read more fantasy in 2021!
I can't find any reviews on the Shattered Sea series by Joe Abercrombie. Are you familiar with that series, and do you recommend it? It seems weird that the his current series is so well loved by basically everyone, but not a peep about the Shattered Sea. Thoughts?
I liked Guns of the Dawn, also liked Dogs of War by the same author. Totally different, full on sci-fi but still worth a read. Thinking of giving The Tiger & the Wolf a go now
My 2021 top 10 reads are: 10- The Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams 9- Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? - Philip K. Dick 8- Iron Gold - Pierce Brown 7- Tiamat's Wrath - James S.A. Corey 6- The City & The City - China Mieville 5- Borne - Jeff VanderMeer 4- God Emperor Of Dune - Frank Herbert 3- The Lord Of The Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien 2- The Age Of Madness Trilogy - Joe Abercrombie 1- Bleeding Edge - Thomas Pynchon
Assuming that I don't have a ton of time to read, and First Law is by far my favorite series, what's your recommendation for an audiobook to listen to while doing other things? I've been on a non-fiction kick lately and want to find a nice fictional universe to immerse myself in over the next few months 😃
I have read all Jemisin books and the inheritance is by far my favorite. I loved Yeine so much as was a little disappointed by the POV switch in book 2. But Oreé is really iconic if you get her a chance.
