BPS model HK1S owner here. Awesome knife, very good sheath. Quarter rear of the full tang is exposed and drilled for a lanyard. Buy one, and victory to Ukraine!

I concur with you, you are "lucky like that..." Jim and David are right, the BPS Adventurer I received was shaving sharp with a sheer 90° spine for creating sparks. I did sand my scales like you and season them with wood oil. What bluing product did you use btw? I enjoyed your honest review and comments!

I also have the BPS knife with the attached ferro rod. Mine works awesome out of the box and throws sparks better than any other knife I've owned. I did order the stainless steel version via Etsy and had mine shipped from Ukraine. I can easily start a fire on a paper towel with one stroke of the ferro rod. I've taken mine on several camping trips already and am extremely satisified with it.

I just bought one and firstly, I had none of the issues described in this video. No rust, spline easily produced sparks (I started a fire with it shortly after opening it and it’s the first time I’ve used a ferro rod), no router marks on the scales and the scales were finished with “danish oil” (smells like linseed oil, so seems about right). My only real comment on quality, is that they aren’t meant as display knives and the finish on the blade is rough (no hand sanding) though it’s not an issue. What I came here to say though, is that I initially thought the sharpening choil was a bit large, but then I noticed some slight serrations on the inside edge, that are inconsistent with the rest of the relatively rough finish on the blade/tang, but then I realised that the choil has the same diameter as the ferro rod. I may be wrong, but I think the choil is designed for use with the ferro rod. It gives better control when using the ferro rod (it stays in the choil) and the rough finish/serrations (hard to determine if they’re deliberate or not), are more reliable in producing sparks than the spine of the knife. Though I’m not sure if the ferro rod sparks are hot enough to damage the temper on the edge of the blade next to the choil 🤷🏻‍♂️ Interested to hear if other people who own one, have the same serrations in the choil and what they think about whether it was intended for use with the ferro rod.
@artcianfanojr

All three BPS knives I have were scary sharp out of the box and the only issue is some router marks (minor). Throw massive sparks on the ones I have. The sheath is worth the price alone and you get a fantastic knife and ferro rod for nothing.

I got a Savage not long ago, with the bog oak handles and flat grind. Great knife for a great price. Hellaciously sharp out of the box, which I always take as a sign of pride in what a company ships out. And an excellent sheath that's worth what the whole package cost. When you're talking about working knives you can't get more for your dollars, not that I know of, anyway.

I just bought a different model from the company. I think I just bought my first grown up bush knife. I need to pull the scales off and do a bit of fine sanding. A bit, and only cuz the one rough spot is exactly where a blister shouldnt be. Shave sharp, which, IMO is a bit too fine of an edge for a tool. The sheath is black so i am going to stain the grips to a weathered grey. I shopped for weeks before settling on the BPS, and so far I am thrilled. Oh, the knife and sheath came wrapped in cling wrap, inside a box, inside a bag full of air. Which was shipped in a padded envelope.

I think BPSKnives are the best buy for a bushcraft knife. Great bones, a little work and you have a great knife. I don't have the adventurer. I have the BS2FTS, only $27.95. Looks like the same handle with a 4.4" blade. Sheath appears the same with out the ferro rod loop. Close to a spear point blade. Close to what Kephart recommended with a slightly shorter blade. My blade came sharp, good 90 degree spine and no rust. The scales had router marks like yours. The scales were rough and did not appear to be oiled. Pantina the blade, knock the sharp edges off the metal part of the handle with a file and sand paper. Sand the scales smooth down to 800 grit sand paper then finish with several coats of tung oil. Several coats of mink oil on the sheath. Which made it a nice rich brown. Now I have a knife that I think is equal to a $100+ knife. I have made several test sticks and the knife is still sharp. Now time will tell.

I know I'm an old school stick in the mud, but I don't get the importance of batoning a knife to split wood. I've been hanging out in wooded areas since the late 80s, and I've never had to use my camp knife to split wood. It's too easy to carry a folding saw, small hatchet, tomahawk, etc. People say "well what if something happens and you need to survive in the woods with just a knife?" That is possible but not probable enough to use wood splitting as the one of two categories to test a knife. Knifetubers need to be creative and make a video where they skin a fish, cut various types of materials, or any number of things people use knives for.

How much are these reviewers getting paid? The knife was so rough I returned it. I don't mind a little project for 40 bucks but the bones are too rough. First, the handles are uncomfortable, they are too thin. Secondly, that choil-ish area digged into my pointer finger. It didn't come very sharp, sure it was sharp but not as sharp as (for comparison) any of the cheap moras I have or my bk-16. More like my ontario sp10 and sp-6. My srk and hunter were sharper out of the box. It is more in line with Shrades I have. So it's sharp but needs work. The handle, cheap blade and discomfort made me return it. I wish it was as good as these reviewers make it seem. But save the $40 and put it towards something better.
