In the quest for the perfect budget trousers for wild camping and hiking, I’ve been trying out two pairs from Amazon and comparing them to my usual ‘go to’ Karrimor Panther trousers.
The TACVASEN and LHHMZ trousers from Amazon are both budget friendly options for hiking and camping trousers. But are they better value and better performing than my current favourite Karrimor Panther ones?
See you in the comments!
Ben 🤓

Oh wow, glad you mentioned it was you on the guitar.. I just assumed it was a wee ditty you'd found online. You're really good 👍 You should make a few secs video of you actually playing the guitar and have it at the start or end of your videos..maybe filmed in black and white, with some menacing sheep and flies in the background 😃

For something a bit more rugged and hard waring, Scruffs Worker Plus trousers are great. Lots of pockets, really strong knee sections that have pockets for knee pads and really comfortable. I got a pair for £24 from ebay. More of a bushcraft rather than walking pair of trousers but a good option.

I've got a pair of Crivit hiking trousers from Lidl and they're really good. Feel a lot like my Montane Terra Pants which were obviously way more expensive! Definitely some bargains to be had out there.

On the real budget side of things then I often just wear cheap tracksuit bottoms from Sports Direct, last year I bought two pairs Adidas for £16, extreme lightweight. So great in summer, super easy to hand wash and dry for when bog hopping. I know loads swear by Ron Hill tracksters and I can see why. One pair now relegated to being used whilst I'm painting the house, but at that cost, nothings lost.

I quite like the 12 quid quecha trousers from decathlon for summer use, really light weight and seem to be holding up well. For colder weather I've went for oex stratos i think theyre called? Bit heavier weight but dwr coated

Good video been, will try the karimor out at some point I think! I use either craghopper kiwi winter lined for very cold weather (about 25-30£ one the sales) or dare 2b tunedin stretchy light weight trousers the rest of year. I have got them as low as £13 in the sales on Amazon but usually retail £20-30 depending on size and colour. I find those to be really comfy and stretchy, but definitely form fitting.....

Nice one Ben, I have the winter ones with the fleece lining, really like them, my sister got me the summer ones as a birthday present but I'm sure she's got the lhm...whatever they're called and not the tacvasen because even though there soft shell the inside is kinda like a black plastic, certainly keep the wind and rain out but jeez do your legs sweat in them if your doing anything more than a gentle leisurely stroll, unfortunately my Panthers are resigned to being work trousers now underneath my overalls as all the elasticity has gone from them and now resemble joompers 😂😂 but I did literally wear them 24/7 for about 2 years so no complaints 👍👍

Good video Ben. I ordered two pair of lightweight trousers from regatta in the sale. Both the same side but one pair had a strange defect, one leg was thinner then the other. I thought one of my legs had swollen up after a bug bite! But then I tried the other pair on and they where OK so I sent the first pair back. My favourites are a pair of Craghopper trousers I bought in the sale at GoOutdoors. I think I paid around £25 for them and they are excellent. I'm definitely going to get another pair.

I've found using work trousers the best to camp in. Affordable, plenty of pockets and the ones I get (Hard Yakka) are kneepad compatible. Also comes with tool loops and a saw pocket. I destroyed a pair of fjallravens in 4 months. Never will I pay that price again.

Work trousers are good but I find them too warm to hike far in. Great for rugged woodland/bushcraft type camps though 👍

Hi Ben, I use Blaklader garden work trousers. They're comfortable and hard wearing, dry fast and have plenty of pockets/loops for storage. I got them a year ago for about £40 in a sale - well worth it for the use they've had and plenty of life left in them.
