I am swedish. Swedes are proud of Morakniven. That is real quality right there. Every carpenter have a Mora knife hanging on their trousers. We even call any knife "morakniv", like "do you have a morakniv?". Then everybody knows what type of knife that is needed.

I am from Germany and I use a garberg side a few years. I can highly recommend it. And the blade length makes it a legal choice for edc carry in Germany, which was important for me.

I have a Mora Companion that I usually use around here at the house and up here locally in our woods. But when I want to go out here and do some serious bushcrafting I use my Mora Garberg carbon blade. I am an old-school person so I like my carbon over stainless steel. I guess it's just an old people thing. I would rather much have a Garberg then a high price Knife because the high price knives are nowhere near as good as my Garber!

If you also want to prepare a meal with the knife, I recommend the stainless version, because the carbon version is not neutral, the steel reacts with acids and leaves an aftertaste.

But the stainless also has many more alloys in it, whereas the carbon is very close to pure iron. And iron is harmless to the human body, as is carbon, being how our biology needs it. Our biology doesn't, however need many of the alloys they put in even basic stainless, and some you most definitely do not want to be injesting.

WOW i am blown away by the venomous hate spewing in the comments for Dave Cantebury ! if you do not want his opinion then don't take it , but why all the hate ? if i was lost in the woods and had to survive for weeks Dave Cantebury is definitely on top of the list of people i would want with me ! i value Dave's opinion the same as i value Brian's . Morakniv makes a good quality knife whether you carry a $17 companion or an $85 Garberg also i see lots of haters talking , but i don't see so many of you out there making your own videos showing off your woods skills !

Dave would be a good choice. I don't get it either but it is a product of the disconnected social media mindset. People feel OK saying things they would probably never say to someone's face. It is a sad example of societal decay. Probably just good old fashioned envy.

I just received my first Mora Garberg... This knife is EPIC !!! Build quality is superior. The one thing I really like about this knife that no other knife has is that it has a short drop at the point allowing this knife to be extra strong. Other knife makers tend to make a false blade on top in taper it an inch back. This knife does not. The taper is less than 5 mm, which gives the knife a whole lot of strength up front. For 70 bucks this is the best knife there is...

On his earlier videos comments are turned off, so he's not open to the public. Dave does refer to Mors in some videos. Now Mors is a real man. What he said in his videos 10 years ago he is still saying today. Dave changes his mind depending on who's singing the cheque. Hi Dave. Thank's for the great review. My choice is the stainless. I live in Victoria Australia in the high country. I've had many carbon knives before and although great they are hard to maintain because of the excessive moisture we have here. Always having to remember to oil the knife and constantly cleaning surface rust when you forget to oil it becomes a headache after awhile. So stainless is my choice. 👍🏼👍🏼

So much so I bought a real nice set of sharpening stones and a leather strop with which to sharpen it. I grew up with Mora. My 2nd and 3th fixed blade ever are Mora's and I still have them. They are some 40+ years old. They have (or had) full tang models back than also but they were above my budget at that time. I have used a lot of Mora's and I must say that the production quality has improved over the years. Of course Mora is the name of the town where the factory is located and it used to be different knife brands but all made in that same factory so in the end they united using the brand name Mora. I basically stopped buying Mora when they came with these 'bushcraft' knives and in 2011 switched to Hultafors as the cheap basic camp knife. Cheap but very good and I have not seen anything in this video (apart from using the protruding stick tang for the ferro rod) that my less than 10 euro Hultafors GK can't do. I bet the handle of the Hultafors is way tougher also. I like the Mora Garberg as a plastic handle knife with a protruding stick tang (like Fallkniven) but that's beside the point. What I don't like is the price! It's between 85 usd and 125 usd maybe in the USA depending on the sheath? Here they are about the same price in euro. For that price there are so much more options! Even knives without plastic handles and truly full tang and with way better sheaths. I don't trust velcro without a snap button when in the water, mud or snow and that's how the knife/sheath combo is attached to the multi mount part. Just one velcro strap. About Dave Canterbury and the controversie. You mention the fact that Dave Canterbury states that the Garberg would be his knife of choice for a one tool option, so you bring him into the review. When I look at Dave's video's I see him mentioning and showing specs that any one tool option knife should have according to him and the Garberg does not live up to those standards. Of course he made these video's before he got paid by Mora. I'm not saying that DC is not a good woodsman but he is a business man first. He does get challenged but never responds. I even challenged his 5 C's and 10 C's. The way I see it the Americans needed an American role model and chose Dave despite of his lies. I even think that this Mora thing is more of a hype also. Mora wants the American market and hired Dave. They both win and the American public gets stuck with overpriced plastic handled knives. For me the price is a big factor and should be taken into account in any review. I think the Garberg is a 50 dollar knife at most. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1ab6qic4EfA.html

So according to Bryan the Garberg is the knife of choice now if Dave was to take only one knife (one tool option). Now is that comment used to make Bryans channel more believable or to make Dave more like a survival hero? I put much more value into Bryan then I will ever in Dave. So I suggest that Bryan gives his opinion about knives and leave it at that. If Fiskars would pay Dave a million Dave would recommend Fiskars. So why mention lying Dave in the video at all?

👍 Very good review of these knives. I have the carbon steel version simply because I like carbon steel. Most people who have both say they are about equal with SS being more corrosion resistive and CS having the flint & steel capability. The hype about a full tang knife or a “survival” knife is all marketing propaganda IMHO. I can do any knife task with my Mora Classic 2c that I can do with my Garberg. I convexed the edges on both because that is the best edge geometry, IMHO. I also squared off a section of the spine on the Classic 2 and rounded off all but a section of spine on the Garberg. The Garberg knives are very good knives, but at the end of the day a sharpened piece of steel is a sharpened piece of steel. Some folks still believe the BK2 and Tom Brown Tracker are good knives. 🤷🏻‍♂️ In any event thank you for sharing your views on these knives. Nice to know they passed your world famous balance test. 😄

Here in Australia it’s difficult to find a knife shop with a good variety of types and brands so you’d be lucky to be able to hold one in the hand that you’re interested in before you buy. I was lucky I bought a Garberg carbon online for my first bushcraft/survival knife and was pleasantly surprised at how good it feels in the hand.

Easy, if you live in northwest Europe and similar US regions then the stainless. If you are in the middle east or like nevada then the carbon. If rain didn't exist, apart from everyone dying of dehydration then the carbon would be the way to go every time.

G'day Bryan. Great review. I'm born and bread in Sweden but moved to the "Big island down under" 25 years ago. My first knife was given to me at the age of 5, about to turn 6. My granddad gave it to me and taught me how to use it. It was a Mora Scout with birch handle and natural tan leather sheath. I wish I still had that but sadly it is long gone. I have had NUMEROUS "Moraknivar" (plural) since then. Mostly the cheap tradies tool knife that is used from anything like carving timber, cutting electric wiring, digging and scraping off slag when welding. I am about to buy a Garberg as my previous go to bush knife was stolen with my bug-out/bush craft bag during a burglary recently. I am literally contemplating buying both a stainless and a carbon steel model as I really can't make up my mind hahaha. Anyway, it will possibly come to flipping a coin. Another mentioning of my grand dad; when he taught me how to and how NOT to use a knife, he said "When you cut yourself, you know you have used it the wrong way". He said WHEN, not IF. And 50 years later, I still hear his bloody comment in my head while occasionally running for a band-aid LOL. Heads up, the Mora Knife is pronounced "Mora Kneeve" with sounding "K". Thanks for a cool channel. Cheers. Perry.

There's a huge manipulation on carbon steel idea that is better... Wtf is a lie it's inferior to stainless in every way. But companies like Esee , Ontario, ka bar lie and charge unbelievable prices for extremely cheap 1095... How come you pay just 10 to 12dls for a old hickory but in case of an esee or ka bar you pay 100 to 300 USD??? For the same 1095(almost) ... I can understand that some people prefer carbon. But is just not better.

I won't pay that kind of money for a Mora. Now with THAT said....I really LOVE Mora knives and I own two of them....the Light My fire Mora, SS steel with ferro rod and sharp spine and the Companion HD, Carbon steel. Since I always carry both, I can do everything that you demonstrated, except for the flint use, for a whole lot less money, without sacrificing quality. Great review Bryan...back to the roots is always nice!!! God bless.

Can you do a video on " what brand of kitchen kitchen knife would you grab, or can do just about all the things a designated bushcraft type knife can do"? My wife needed me to bend an old butter knife that she need for a garden tool, and she only needed a 90 degree bend( she wanted an L shape) and I did so with a part of grips. I was surprised when I bent it, at first it was a bit tough to do, and most importantly, the knife didn't break at all. I will be honest, there are some strong butter knives, steak knives, and all the other kind of knives out there for meat cutting, and many inexpensive knives like a butter knife don't have a micarta or wood handle making them full tang knives. I remember as a kid I took an old butter knife, and threw at an old abandoned made of brick apartment building waiting demolition. To my surprise the knife didn't break, and all it had on it was a few scrape marks on it, and it must have traveled 100 ft in distance, and at a height of 50 ft, and it hit a brick wall too before landing on the concrete below it. I would never do that to my expensive hunting knives, bushcraft knives, or even any of my folders, because I got a hunch, they wouldn't fare well at all compared to that old butter knife I couldn't destroy.
