**UPDATE UPDATE** NOTE: I am not a lawyer, I am not giving you legal advice. If you need legal advice please speak to an attorney. With that said, Keep in mind that "fixed magazine" rifles are limited to 10 round magazines only. If you insert a magazine on a rifle that is, under law in a fixed magazine configuration, you will be in possession of an unregistered "assault weapon" please don't ne that guy. This is a "fixed magazine" setup and you must be careful. This is a setup if you want your rifle to look like a standard configuration ar15 in looks only. Eventhough you can legally own magazines with capacities greater then 10 rounds, do not put them in a "fixed magazine" rifle or a Registered "Bullet Button Assault Weapon"(BBRAW) here is the current "assault weapon" definition based on generic characteristics, (a)Notwithstanding Section 12276, “assault weapon” shall also mean any of the following: (1)A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following: (A)A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon. (B)A thumbhole stock. (C)A folding or telescoping stock. (D)A grenade launcher or flare launcher. (E)A flash suppressor. (F)A forward pistol grip. (2)A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds. (3)A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than 30 inches.

@martinz1540 Don't confuse people. A 30 round body that meets California standards for a 10 round capacity is not the same as a 30 round magazine or 250 round drum lol. All that matter is capacity not body of said magazine/drum.
@toamaiusdvignir9468
@toamaiusdvignir9468 4 года назад
@martinz1540 I was just saying not to spread misinformation. If you have a "fixed magazine" rifle and have a magazine, even if it is permanently affixed with more than 10 rounds, under California law it is not a "fixed magazine" rifle. So again, to clear any confusion, even if you legally own magazines that hold 11-1,000,00 rounds (exaggerating a bit) you cannot legally use them in a "fixed magazine" setup as it would fall under the definition of "fixed magazine" You concede how your comment could cause some confusion, right?
@toamaiusdvignir9468
@toamaiusdvignir9468 4 года назад
@martinz1540 No they can't, again if you aren't sure on something please don't spread misinformation. Again, even if you legally acquired magazines holding 11 rounds plus, you cannot under any circumstances put them in a rifle that is "fixed magazine" only exceptions are, any rifle that does not meet the definition of an "assault weapon" or a pre-2001 RAW(Registered Assault Weapon) If you need a link to any laws, penal codes let me know. I would be more than happy to share them with you. Unless you want to be a felon don't put any mag holding 11-1,000,000 rounds in a rifle that is setup with "assault weapon" features.
@toamaiusdvignir9468
@toamaiusdvignir9468 4 года назад
@martinz1540 What you just said, I clearly explained in full detail in this video. Also, you are forgetting a crucial part of what makes a rifle "fixed magazine" A rifle can only be fixed magazine if the magazine that is affixed to said rifle holds only 10 or less rounds. If it holds more than 10, that means 11 rounds or more than it is no longer a "fixed magazine" rifle. If you think I am wrong on this, please seek legal counsel because again ignorance of a law is not an excuse.

@martinz1540 Arg... Sometimes I wonder if I am wasting my breath. This is my last attempt at keeping you out of trouble. You are dead wrong brother. I am not trying to or think that I am better than you but believe me, you are wrong. Hopefully this answered question will help put out by Firearms Policy Coalition, Q: What are the "features" that can make a firearm into an "assault weapon"? In addition to other categories of "assault weapons" (that we aren't going to talk about here), Cal. Penal Code § 30515(a) says that an "assault weapon" is: (1) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that does not have a fixed magazine but has any one of the following: (A) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon. (B) A thumbhole stock. (C) A folding or telescoping stock. (D) A grenade launcher or flare launcher. (E) A flash suppressor. (F) A forward pistol grip. (2) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds. (3) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than 30 inches. (4) A semiautomatic pistol that does not have a fixed magazine but has any one of the following: (A) A threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer. (B) A second handgrip. (C) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel that allows the bearer to fire the weapon without burning the bearer’s hand, except a slide that encloses the barrel. (D) The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip. (5) A semiautomatic pistol with a fixed magazine that has the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds. (6) A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following: (A) A folding or telescoping stock. (B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip. (7) A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine. (8) Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder. And, for purposes of [Cal. Penal Code section 30515], " 'fixed magazine' means an ammunition feeding device contained in, or permanently attached to, a firearm in such a manner that the device cannot be removed without disassembly of the firearm action." Cal. Penal Code section 30515(b). If after reading this, go to calguns.net and look at the AW Flow Chart or start a thread and ask about using magazines holding more than 10 rounds in a fixed magazine configuration is legal if you legally acquired those magazines. I am only trying to help. Again you are wrong brother.

Featureless is better option, with a thordsen stock it changes hand position but its an easy train. Way faster than fixed mag, here you have to release the bolt, push the button to break action, press the button to drop the mag, close the action , finally recharge. Featureless: drop the mag, release the bolt. In high stress situation, muscle memory is faster with two steps instead of 5. Also you can have your grandfathered or freedom week standard capacity on featureless. So you have to reload more often with a fix mag option anyways. Featureless is the way to go imho

Christian Martinez I really like the FAB Defense OMC Ultimags, a Mag|Coupler aka RJK Ventures LLC also makes a coupler that replaces the magazine floorplate on magpul 10 round pmags and works just as good. I like the OMC because it is weighted and 2 10 round mags plus OMC weigh within an ounce of most 30 round magazines. Both OMC and Mag|Coupler fit in standard rigs and mag pouches.

@toamaiusdvignir9468
@toamaiusdvignir9468 6 лет назад
Jacob Holloway To be honest compared to other fixed magazine options that are now considered "assault weapons" this is much faster. Bullet button was a fixed magazine option which required use of a tool to drop the magazine and a bullet tip was considered a tool. This was in my opinion super slow and rifles like this were considered the norm. I wish I could have a rifle that was just like everyone else's in a free state. However, I live in California and rifles with features are considered "assault weapons" so by complying with the law, I can keep all my features and have the rifle look and function as close to normal and stay legal. Like I have said before, this is not slow at all. I go to Arizona a lot where they have no restrictions and I can freely remove mod which takes less than 1 minute(1 hex head screw). Now I find myself not taking the 1 minute to take off mod. Instead I train on this setup and just keep getting faster. I would say it is as fast as a standard ak. The only difference is having to send bolt home. Other than that, you just drop magazine and charge the weapon.
@youtubewatcherdude
@youtubewatcherdude 6 лет назад
Toamaius D'Vignir I understand and agree, the only problem is knowing that it's faster obviously means next year they're going to ban this option as well. It seems they are trying to do everything except physically taking them.I too live in California and I am starting to explore my interest in guns and it's sad how limited my options are. I just bought an AR pistol upper and now I'm worried I won't even be able to complete my build. But I will add that I am excited that if I can complete it this does look like an exceptional option.
@toamaiusdvignir9468
@toamaiusdvignir9468 6 лет назад
Jacob Holloway Yeah, if you are now getting into firearms, it will come as a shock to see how many restrictions we have on commonly used firearms. This option is very ban proof. In order for them to ban this set up they would need to do 2 things. 1, Somehow make the argument that a fixed magazine rifle is an "assault weapon" 2, Say that a single shot, bolt action action is an "assault weapon" this in my opinion would be impossible. Not only would they be coming after ar 15 or al weapons with a similar setup, but every hunting rifle in the state.. Fudds do not vote on black rifles. But talk about their wood guns and hunting rifles and they will come out of the wood work to stand and fight with us(at the polls) This is a great set up for ar pistols, however after Jun 30, 2018 all 80% lowers require registration and you must ask for a serial number and have a certified FFL put it on your 80% lower before you can finish it. I also believe you can no longer make a pistol out of such lower in California. There are tons of single shot exemption pistol lowers that are available for sale through private party which you can buy and use to complete your build using this setup, but instead of costing you market price they command a premium essentially it created a black market of sorts. Similar to buying any other off roster gun. This makes me sad, good luck.

Toamaius D'Vignir Military standard is to fire a shot, change the mag, and fire another shot within 1.5 seconds. Think about it. While a police officer can have his gun back up with 30 rounds against you, your taking around 4 seconds to have 10 rounds against him. Stand no chance.

There are options to the featureless grip. It's not that you cannot wrap your thumb around it, the web of your hand between thumb and trigger finger has to be higher than trigger as in a commonly stocked rifle, so one option is you can use a Juggernaught Tactical featureless grip. To me it's a much better option than disabling my magazine release to have to crack open the action.

tuna0n3 Yep, this is truly the best combo. I travel to free states a lot and sometimes when I am feeling lazy, I find myself not taking the 1 to 2 minutes it takes to convert this to a standard ar15. Only thing I do different is use standard capacity magazines vs reduced capacity magazines. Even my Arizona friends who have no idea what compliance rifles are find this setup easy to train on. I also take every shooting opportunity to train on this. Bolt release, push to crack action open, release magazine, insert magazine, close action, charge weapon.(keep in mind this is a reload from bolt lock) Tactical reloads are, Crack action open, release magazine, reload fresh magazine, close action.... If you are okay with magazine modifications or buying special mags(make sure you verify 100% function and reliability). I highly recommend using complete Juggernaut Tactical Hell Fighter Kit. Will turn your operation of arms to that of an ak pattern rifle, you will lose your bolt catch. From empty, bolt will automatically slam forward, crack action open, release magazine, reload fresh magazine, close action and charge weapon. Double feeds can be cleared as well, it just takes a little more time than Hogue Freedom Fighter Kit combo with JT Hellfighter Kit.

I travel outside of California and rarely relive the mod because I am so use to it. In free state without fixed magazine laws you can add any magazine regardless of capacity. However if you wanted a taste of freedom removing the Hogue Freedom Fighter is only an Allen key away takes 30 seconds. Putting it back on will take about 10 minutes including adjusting to ensure magazine won’t drop without action being opened. Anywho glad you like the setup still best option if you like features. I like capacity myself now and went featureless so I can use my freedom week mags. I may do a quick video on it.

Well, when all things are equal and capacity was the same regardless, then this was my choice. Of course freedom week changed everything. Legally I can't use any magazine bigger than 10 rounds on a "fixed magazine" rifle as it makes that an assault weapon as by definition they are only considered fixed magazine if it's limited to 10 rounds. Right now my main setup is not bad at all. featureless and ambi-safety a long with a Resurgence Arms featureless grip. I can legally used my mags on this one. and besides not having a flash hider, pistol grip or and adjustable stock its the same. I travel to AZ frequently and when I take my rifle a long for the trip I don't bother changing it back to a standard configuration, train the same way I would have to use it in CA.

Palmetto State Armory is got some killer deals going on. One example is a similar set up upper. I paid 369.99 for mine, plus shipping and it is a 5.56 barrel. They have a .223 Wylde 18" with 15.5 inch MOE Handguard, comes with MBUS sights and Bolt Carrier and Charging handle, I saw it for 299.99 with free shipping. That upper is better than mine. If you aren't savvy on .223 Wylde, it is pretty much a match grade .223 chamber that can handle 5.56 pressures. Shoots both, but when you shoot .223 it will be a tax driver. PSA takes a long time to fulfill orders, but the value and product cannot be denied.

Only the Upper featured in this video is from PSA. The lower is a Anderson Manufacturing "Ghost" Stripped Lower with DPMS Lower Parts Kit less Trigger Control Group, it has the ALG Defense ACT Trigger and springs. The buffer tube and spring are from PSA, I belive it is a standard carbine buffer tube. Not sure if you are aware. but california doesn't have any restrictions on long guns, there is thankfully no Roster like we have for hand guns. This means any and all weapons that don't meet restrictions for CA "Assault Weapon" Ban are fair game. To be brought in legally, a company only needs check these boxes when shipping to CA. Send complete rifle as a "Featureless Rifle" Must be 30" over all length, No Flash Hider, No Forward Pistol Grip, No Pistol Grip, Fixed Stock. and a 10 round magazine. Send a complete rifle as a "Fixed Magazine" Must be 30 inches overall length. have a "Fixed Magazine" and a 10 round magazine. Alternatively, you can buy any rifle you want and have your FFL convert to be compliant before you do paperwork and transfer to you. I hope this clarified any confusion, if you still have more questions. Be happy to answer the. Anything I can do to Arm more Californian's would be my pleasure.

So whats the difference between your rifle and the AR-15 California Compliant Rifle ($1K) Juggernaut Tactical has on their website. I may have read it wrong but it comes with both the freedom fighter mag lock and the hellfighter rear pin. Should i get the 100% lower with the AR-15 Complete Upper Receiver in 18" ($1160 for both). What Free float length do you recommend? Sorry if these questions have obvious answers, thx for the informative video.

@toamaiusdvignir9468 5 лет назад
No difference other than preference/proce. I am the first person to use use combo they saw how good it was and collaborated to make a rifle like mine. I don't blame them it is a win win for both companies. I recommended a stripped receiver or even Juggernaut Tactical's Almost Complete Lower Receiver. It has Hellfighter Rear Takedown Pin and Hogue Freedom Fighter already installed. They also include a buffer tube assembly and all you need is the lower parts kit of your choice. I like to build my lower receivers, I like the option of choosing trigger components. As far as uppers, they are cheap enough to buy complete as you could save some money there. The upper I chose was a 16" 1-7 twist nitride mid-length 13.5" M-LOK light weight handguard. I got this for about 359.00 from Palmetto State Armory. My choice for free float handguard depends on barrel length, for 16-18 I like a 13.5 or 15.5" Hope this answered all your questions, thanks for watching.

@toamaiusdvignir9468

You don't have the same setup. You are using the complete Juggernaut Tactical Hellfighter Mod Kit. The magazine locking mechanism replaces the standard bolt catch/release and requires special magazines or you must modify your mags. My setup uses the Hogue Freedom Fighter for the magazine locking device. It uses a standard bolt catch and you can use any magazine since you keep last round bolt hold open. However, bolt must be sent home to be able to break the rifle open slightly to before you can drop the magazine.

Eventhough you can legally own magazines with capacities greater then 10 rounds, do not put them in a "fixed magazine" rifle or a Registered "Bullet Button Assault Weapon"(BBRAW)

How is that ca compliant? You still have a pistol grip and adjustable butt stock right? I was under the impression that the grip needed to be modified so your thumb can’t be wrapped around and their are companies that sell good compliant grips. I was told also that if you change the grip to that funky new “compliant” one you can then “fix” the adjustable butt stock you have and that would make it compliant. Other choice would be to make it into a bolt action and keep the features 🤷🏻‍♂️ ????
@toamaiusdvignir9468
@toamaiusdvignir9468 4 года назад
Uncer California laws, your weapon is an "assault weapon" if your rifle is semiautomatic and has detachable magazine and any 1 offending feature. This a fixed magazine rifle. The magazine cannot be removed when in semiautomatic configuration To remove the magazine lower and upper must be separated (disassembled) before you can prove the magazine. Fixed magazine rifle are in compliance with state laws. Only way to make a fixed magazine rifle into an "assault weapon" is to put a magazine which hold more than 10 rounds. Another way to have a legal semiautomatic rifle that has a detachable magazine is a featureless rifle. This means no flash hider, no forward pistol grip(2nd pistol grip forward of the receiver), no pistol grip, no adjustable/folding or collapsible sticks. Think of a Ruger Mini 14 with a standard sporting stock. Just make sure I'd you have a muzzle device of any kind it is not sold/advertised by its manufacturer as "flash hiding" same applies to ar/ak pattern rifles.

Hi, you did not use the complete kit to install the new bolt catch, did you use the original bolt catch? Is your magazine release disabled when the gun is closed?
@toamaiusdvignir9468
@toamaiusdvignir9468 5 лет назад
I used Hogue Freedom Fighter as my fixed magazine solution instead of the bolt catch style solution that comes with the Juggernaut Tactical Hellfighter Mod Kit. This allows you to keep your original bolt catch/release and last round bolt hold open when you fire the weapon until dry. Hogue Freedom Fighter requires minimal separation of the receivers so it marries well with the Juggernaut Tactical Hellfighter Mod Kit's Rear Takedown Pin. Yes, magazine release button only works when receivers are separated by action of the rear takedown pin. Once the rifle is fully assembled and operating as a semi-automatic, receivers closed the magazine release is disabled and will not drop the magazine. I hope this answered your questions, thanks for watching.

@williamcollins3565 4 месяца назад
Well, that's very nice, but the AR Maglok with Kingpin does the same thing. The problem is that the first products were engineered a lot better than the ones you get nowadays. Now the button extension often doesn't fit through the small crack and the extended release button can't open the mag release. I'm to the point where I'm just going to disobey the law and put normal factory releases in all my rifles. The chances are I won't get caught because most cops don't understand the administrative regs about separating the upper and lower to drop the mag, and, to their credit, many don't care.

@toamaiusdvignir9468 6 лет назад
I see where you are coming from, however with that said, there are better featureless options that are more ergonomic than an featureless ar 15. I don't see a point of a featureless ar, unless it is a SCR or SU-16, those 2 rifles are naturally featureless, the SCR will take any standard ar upper assembly. These rifles do not have to be modified to be featureless and shoot just like any standard hunting rifle or shotgun. I won't even mention a mini 14. We like the ar, because it is a full featured modern sporting rifle, when you convert setup your rifle into a featureless configuration, you give up everything that makes it an ar 15.

Just make sure you clean are well after you drill/tap.(use a good degreaser)I followed instructions per the little pamphlet that comes with it. If it called for red loctite, I used blue and very little so it won't bind the plunger or spring. Make sure you adjust the magazine release properly, adjust so there is hardly any play of the magazine release button when receivers are closed. This can be done by using 500-800 grit sand paper and taking off a little bit at a time and check often. Goodluck and thanks for watching.

Not sure if this is a joke, but I will answer it anyways. No. You may not legally use a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds in a fixed magazine configuration even if you legally own those magazines. Under definitions and penal codes that govern semi-automatic rifles in Commifornia, fixed magazine has "10 round" limit in it's definition of what a fixed magazine rifle is. With a 10 round magazine, you can rack a round into the chamber, take out magazine add the additional mag to have 11 rounds in the gun. You can fire as many, or all of the rounds you want before you reload. I think people you speak of who shoot 1 or 3 rounds, then reload are just doing that to showcase the speed of the Juggernaut Tactical Hogue Freedom Fighter combo.

I put this together starting with a stripped lower and configured it the way I want. If you are asking what is my recommendation for manufacturers for stripped lowers, the answer is easy. You cannot do better for the money than, Anderson Manufacturing, that is what my lowers foundation is. I also really like and recommend if you have a little more to spend Aero Precision's M4E1 has a billet look, but is actually forged. It also has no roll pins to punch, all use set screws. I don't mind spending a little more. Still a high value option. Rest is a DPMS lower parts kit, less trigger control group. Trigger control group is ALG Defense ACT. Buffertube I will highly recommend Leaper's UTG Pro for their complete mil-spec buffertube assembly. Smoothest shooting rifle you will ever shoot. I hope this helps.

Receiver extension is standard PSA mil-spec tube, spring and buffer. Stock is by FAB-Defense GL-Mag for AR variants. Upper is a PSA complete Upper Assembly 13.5 inch lightweight handguard Magpup MBUS Gen 2 I have reconfigured the gun since the video so I have added weapon light, Holosun military grade circle dot and now setup as a featureless variant. @@f1176 Honestly, if you think you might use or for a second consider using rifle for defensive use, hands down featureless is the way to go. I made this video at the time where things were different (pre-freedom) week. All things being equal and 10 round limits applied, I really liked this setup. However after freedom week it all changed, a fixed magazine rifle is limited to 10 rounds, those limitations are a huge consideration if you should have legally acquired magazines with more than 10 rounds. Which is why my setup is now featureless. As a range toy and cool factor, fixed magazine is still better. If you prefer utility, and ease of use, featureless is king. I will be doing a video update on my featureless build and update what rifle looks and functions like soon. Life has me super busy so I don't have an ETA. @@toamaiusdvignir9468 Appreciated very much on giving your actual experience and consideration. Now I don't have to go through all you have gone through to make a better choice when I only want to own one gun. Flash hider, forward vert handle, and adjustable stock are not that important to me although they are very cool. Yet normal removable mag is very practical and essential to me maintaining the AR integrity. Yes, fixed mag can be reload fast but increases wear on the front hinge/lower for a long run. I would think featureless is a better way to go for me. Now for the hand grip, Strike Industry Megafin grip and Resurgent Arms have caught my attention. Any experience or other inputs on the grips? You mentioned the fixed mag configuration, one can ONLY load 10 round mag even one legally acquired +10 round mag. Can featureless configuration load legally acquired +10 round mag per CA law? or same rule as fixed mag configuration? Yes the Hellfighter kit would allow you to remove front take down pin to gain extra room to pull a magazine in a missfeed scenerio. After looking at this video a few times, his kit isnt completly installed. the bolt wont lock to the rear on empty with the kit installed. he just has the hellfighter rear takedown installed. I know I could be wrong, but I am curious if the full JT kit would allow only the front pin to be removed, and therefore removing the need of an extra person to drop the magazine. hope that makes sense

Martin Garcia You need to remove your flash hider, forward pistol grip, pistol grip(if you can wrap your thumb around it is a pistol grip) and adjustable stock. If you want to keep those features, you need to make your rifle a fixed magazine. The "assault weapons" ban was revised to include bullet buttons. Pretty much, if you can readily remove your magazine with the use of a tool while it is in an assembled state(upper and lower receiver actions are closed and ready to fire in a semiautomatic configuration) Before you can drop the magazine, action must be disassembled (upper and lower receivers separated where rifle is no longer in a semiautomatic configuration) then and only then can you drop remove your magazine. Here is some stuff from bill and the penal code. Registration dates were extended 'til July 01 2018. (b) (1) Any person who, from January 1, 2001, to December 31, 2016, inclusive, lawfully possessed an assault weapon that does not have a fixed magazine, as defined in Section 30515, including those weapons with an ammunition feeding device that can be readily removed from the firearm with the use of a tool, shall register the firearm before January 1, 2018, but not before the effective date of the regulations adopted pursuant to paragraph (5), with the department pursuant to those procedures that the department may establish by regulation pursuant to paragraph (5). b) For purposes of this section, “fixed magazine” means an ammunition feeding device contained in, or permanently attached to, a firearm in such a manner that the device cannot be removed without disassembly of the firearm action.

Hello, this is still good in 2020 in the State of California. Just remember "fixed magazine" means limited to 10 rounds. Even if you legally own magazines that hold 11+ rounds. So if the magazine is locked like what is shown in this video and you have a magazine holding 11+ rounds, it magically turns this into an "assault weapon" Another option is "featureless" with this you get a standard magazine release/catch, but you cannot have any 1 of the offending features like, flash hider/supressor, forward pistol grip, pistol grip or and adjustble/collapsible or folding stock. these are the 2 ways to legally own an ar15 style weapon in California. PS: If you legally own magazines with more than 10 rounds, you can use them in a featureless rifle as no law on the books against using these legally acquired magazines on weapons not considered "assault weapons" or "fixed magazine" if you have any other questions, let me know. Thanks for watching

It isn't the pin that makes it legal. Pin just makes disassembly of the action quicker than pulling a pin like on a standard rifle. Rear pin must be actuated to separate the action which allows the magazine to be dropped.
