I gotta say you did help break down lots of confusion while I dove into convention shooting and filming . Only thing is to maybe slow down a little : even with camera open it was hard keeping up with doing what you advised . Thanks though

I will test it out tomorrow after adjusting to your video on the settings. I do more railway photos, but spotted 6 of the 289 photos with distortions. Also I like to get a Lens 24-300 or like wise.

Hey Andy, thank you so much for your explanation. How can I stream with the camera without having to record? I used a Sony before and I just started the video and it was working like that.

Yes there is a built in microphone, granted it won’t sound as good as an external microphone but there is one!

Yes you can in the customize buttons tab. You can change the * button to "Metering and AF start".

Thank you for the video, it was really informative and clear! I have a question: is it possible to create and save presets (ISO, aperture, and exposure) for quick access later on, like shortcuts? For instance, having one preset for low-light environments and another for bright conditions?

So happy you liked it! You'll want to look up custom shooting modes, I believe the R50 let's you register 3 different ones (like most Canon cameras). With this you can setup presets like that.

How can i do timelapse with this camera?. In my other camera, a canon T6, i use a control conected to a jack on the side. This one had nothin but usb, hdmi and mic ports. Is there some kind of wireless control?

Great video and thank you. Just some constructive criticism from an absolute beginner. The distinction you made between one shot and servo was quite unclear. Seemed like basically the same thing but I’m guessing not in reality.

Does the hdr recorded with it need to be edited to use the video or does the hdr video recorded with it come out of the camera ready for use?

you are the best, I have a doubt, when I want to take photos in HDR format they are saved in HIF format (not HEIF), and my computer can not convert them, neither can Adobe Converter, or lightroom, or photoshop, maybe some program where I can convert these photos from “HIF” format to DNG, or JPG?

Nice manual! Please tell me, can you take photos without a lens? I want to use an adapter and some old glass lenses. Of course, you have to focus manual...I know.

I no longer have a R50 in my hands but from a search in the manual there should be an option in the settings for "Enable Release Shutter w/o lens." in the C.Fn3 menu.

How to use HDR PQ enabled such that you get 10 bit colors, but convert it to SDR Rec.709 in editing tool (davinci for example) by preserving those 10 bit colors to edit with ?

It really depends on what you shot, I love prime lenses so I would think about the 24mm prime or 16mm prime. I also haven’t tried all of the RF-S lenses.

If you put the camera in auto it should let you do that I believe, unsure how manual focus lenses react when mounted.

Thanks for the video, definitely learned some things. But… what I really need help with nobody seems to be able to tell me. I’m a beginner with photography but take hundreds of shots a day to sell clothes and other items on eBay. I got this camera in hopes of eliminating a problem I was having with iPhone but have the same issue. When I take a photo of a shirt for example from 1.5m, 70cm, 20cm away, the colour constantly changes and gets brighter and brighter. So I end up with 6 photos of the same item that are all a different colour! 🤬 How the heck do I stop this from happening? Is there some way to lock the exposure or brightness or something so the item stays the same colour regardless of how far away I am standing from it? Please help!🙏🏻

On the R5 there is a setting called "Movie Servo AF Tracking Sensitivity" where there's a sliding scale. On the low end of the scale -3 is "Locked On" where the focus will track the face no matter who else appears in the frame. On the Canon R50 there isn't a setting called "Movie Servo AF Tracking Sensitivity". Is there an equivalent setting that locks focus on the person you tap regardless of who else enters the frame?

I want to get a dummy battery for my new R50 camera. So far, I got one from Amazon and it doesn't work. come to find out, the electrical contact are a little too far away from the end of the case therefore the camera contacts can reach them. do you know of one that actually works? That's the one I want, thanks.

Was it an official Canon branded one? I have one for my R5 and it works fine. I haven’t tried one for the R50. I believe you can also just plug the camera in via usb c to power it also.

Hey Caroline, I don't think I understand the question. If you want to film a video vertically 9x16 you can hold the camera vertically while filming.

Hi, i'd like to know, how can i protect my R50's sensor?, cus it's always expossed. I was waching other video where someone use the sensor cleaning option in a R5 just to dropp the courtain for protection, but i haven't fount where's it located.

Hey Oliver, the R50 doesn’t have the curtain option like the R5. Anytime you change a lens I would just recommend making sure that the you do it quickly and keep the camera facing down to prevent particles from getting on the sensor.

Based on the manual you can shoot HDR in 1080p so I would say yes! I am not too familiar with HDR video.

In HDR mode is the only available frame rate 30P? I'm seeing the movie size ghosted in the HDR setting.

After consulting the manual Paola it appears that HDR is only available in 29.97 and 25 fps, hope that helps!

@@AndyFeliciotti I've been shooting HDR PQ in 24P. The only hassle is that every time I switch the camera off, it defaults to 30P settings. I only just got the camera so I'll eventually figure it out - hopefully before I throw it in the tall grass in frustration.

@@paolo.kernahan Are you shooting in a custom video mode? You have to register the settings likely if that's the case. If you are using something like manual that is very odd it should stay persistant.

Have you used it as a webcam via the USB connection? The literature from Canon says that the camera supports the UAC protocol, which SHOULD pass audio as well as video. I want to use a shotgun mic, but neither the internal mic nor a shotgun mic will pass audio to OBS. I can see the levels blinking on the flip screen, so I know the mic is "listening". But it's just not passing that audio to the computer via USB. A guy from Canon said that it won't pass audio, but I know what UAC protocol means. So either Canon's literature is wrong or there's something not obious to configuring this. (The truth is, I thought I had it working once, but now I wonder if I'm just remembering wrong.) Just curious if you ever tried it.

I don't have my hands on an R50 anymore but from what I recall I don't think it sent audio. That being said you could get a capture card to do audio or just plug the mic into your computer. Maybe the webcam utility also affects what's brought over VS the UAC.

Depends on your use case, personally I don’t see much reason to shoot both since always want to edit my photos. But I could see it being useful if you have plenty of storage and want to just use pictures and occasionally edit, jpg alone is a good choice in that regard too.

You can just edit jpeg files also until you get comfortable with editing and want to do more with your files then start to do raw!

You’re camera is set to the European standard PAL, you should be able to switch it to NTSC in setup menu 2 under “video system”.

If you need bokeh I would put the Canon RF 50mm F1.8 STM high on your list. After that maybe the 24MM as well. The Canon RF-S 18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM will be great for so many use cases but of course will have less blur. Hope this helps!

@@domenico1023 3-20 people you’ll have to be pretty far back with the 50mm, remember you can always walk further away from your subject to capture more. With a group that big the 24mm or 35mm are probably better choices.

Your video mode is likely in PAL depending on what country you bought the camera. You can switch the video system in the settings. Or are you commenting specifically on 30fps vs 29.97?

I’ve noticed my r50 timer doesn’t last past 15 seconds I’m always having to reset ? Any logical reason why? (Am I missing something in the settings possibly)?

If you go to power saving options you should be able to control how long the screen stays on, I assume that’s you’re asking about.

Your video system mode it set to PAL instead of NTSC, you can change the setting in the video settings

Am I the only nut who doesn’t like the half press auto focus thing? Lol. Took me 10 mins to find the button layout options. I changed the Star button to Focus.

Back button auto focus is very popular! Great for experienced shooters.
