The O-Flute is a favorite in the sign-making industry. This bit is extremely good for plastics and ejecting chips efficiently as possible from the CNC workpiece. This O-Flute bit is known for cutting Aluminum, Plastics, and Foam boards. This needs to be your CNC router bit of choice for soft and hard plastics.

Makes complete sense. I was once cutting some nylon with a .062 4 flute bit and was completely wrong bit for what I was doing I was going through so many it was crazy. Live and learn! Thank you for the good content!

Thanks so much for the great video. I’ve noticed that you give so much information and you’re a good teacher. I’ve learned more from your videos than any other resource (I currently have) on the “Do’s and Don’ts” of CNC Machining. Your Chip Load chart and excel spreadsheet helps me every day at work where we have 2 different industrial CNCs. We often run 2 spindles with dual 12 tool auto changers. So seeing your large CNCs it sucked me right in because that’s basically what I run every day. The 1 Anderson CNC we have also has a moving table @ 10’ X 5’. Thanks for all of your hard work making videos and sharing information.

You saved my day. I was cutting PSAI (softer than acrylic) with a 2 parallel bit and it melts every time. Changed for 1 cut flute, slowed down spindle speed and 1/2 of the feed. Now I have a clean cut!!!

What is the best way to probe a spiral o flute end mill? Ive found when i use a touch probe it always completely misses the material surface on the first pass, and when i use the manual Z - 0 position technique with a piece of paper it always ends up cutting too deep

Very informative and to the point video Ryan! Thanks for sharing. Sheds some light on how to start cutting plastics. What about the performance of the machine. What are the minimum feedrates and rpms are required for this bit to perform? Also any ideas how to handle plexiglass? I need to cut a small piece but have no idea what needs to be used.

I have an Amana O-flute downcut bit. I bought it to use when cutting acrylic sheets, for my LED signs, but I haven't gotten around to trying it yet. Just an FYI there that there ARE downcut versions of an O-flute out there.

There is but I don’t understand why, it gums up and melts your material instantly.

Very nice but issue is o flute bits are extremely expensive about 10x cost of 1 or 2 flute...i have had good success in king color core hdpe using single flute

what method other than clamps, or screwed down will work in holding sheets to the spoilboard? Will be working with .25 and .5' thibick 4x4 sheets and carving out 10x8 rectangular and 3x6 oval signs out of sheet and do not want to use tabs . double sided tape or CA/Blue tape work in securing well?

Your RPMs are too fast! Or feedrate too slow, it’s melting the acrylic
