Excellent! Thank you Sir. The big boys are consistently towards the top. Of course, good scholars can also be found in the smaller publishing titles. There’s pros and cons in most of them, but hey, eat the meat and discard the bones. We appreciate your ministry and efforts here!
Great job sir! I just want to add my recommendation for Jay Sklar on Leviticus in the Zondervan Exegetical Commentary Series ( the series in general is great- I only have two others but the one I'm using right now on Luke is also wonderful- BTW I'm not "in ministry" so just use for personal study or if we are studying in Sunday school or bible studies or want to look up a difficult passage - just to clarify my "level" or lack of expertise") but the Zondervan series looks like it would fill needs from multiple levels. Keep up the good work. Of course Professor Wenham on Leviticus is also great.
My hermeneutics professor recommended your website this summer and today youtube recommended your channel! Thank you for all the info you’re putting out there, it is especially useful in seminary!
This is very interesting. I really like your short summary for each edition. Would love to have your ranking for commentaries directed at lay people level who do not know Greek or Hebrew :)
Hi Kevin, some of the "best of" commentaries don't require knowledge of Greek or Hebrew, although the authors mention and discuss the original language. For example, Exodus by Douglas Stuart doesn't require knowledge of Hebrew. However, it's an intermediate level commentary based on the content. If you are looking for intro-level resources such as for personal devotion or church ministry, you want to see this video I made on series that are helpful for those purposses: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3Dl71YXJdIs.html. @@BestBibleCommentaries Thank you for taking the time to provide a detailed and thoughtful response. I really appreciate it :) Both the links which you shared are new to me, I haven't come across them before !! On a side note, I found the top 1 volume Bible commentaries video to be super helpful as well. I consult them all the time to help me navigate some hard to understand Bible passages.
Hey great stuff i am looking for like a commentary or book on Bible books that explains like application for today for my life do you know if so please recommend like for layman easy to read and understand if possible thanks
Hi, as for a commentary series, the NIV Application Commentary series is well-reviewed for that purpose. You also might want to look into a Life Application Study Bible, which I believe comes in multiple translations.
Sorry I ment, the life application commentary book and there is single book commentary on each of the Bible book. What is the difference? The 18 series volume Vs one single volume one!?!
Hi, I haven't unfortunately. I have four books in that series but I don't have that title. However, I know it by (good) reputation. It has some amazing reviews. I do have Morales' Exodus book in the ESBT series. Have you read the Leviticus study? If so, did you like it?
If you are looking for a review, here is the conclusion from Westminster Theological Journal's review: "Quibbles aside, Morales has blessed the church with a rich theology of the Pentateuch and, indeed, the entire Bible (cf. Carson, p. 8). An extensive bibliography, along with author and Scripture indices, means that this rich work is useful as both a book to read and a tool to consult in the course of related research. Finally, the work’s worship filled tone evinces a scholar whose own mind is in love with the God whose truth he is expounding. I am thankful to have found such valuable required reading for my own seminary course on the Pentateuch, and I have already delighted to see my students blessed by a work that will, Lord willing, inform their ministries for years to come."
@@BestBibleCommentaries Oh man, Thanks for the reply. I have been slowly plodding through this book. I really love it but it is very dense for me. I'm over half way but i bet i've re-read the the first half about 3 times by now.
