Great video! As a data scientist, I couldn't agree more with the thoughts related to advanced degrees. I have two masters degrees and I am neck deep in student debt. This is definitely something you should consider before going this route. I have some more thoughts on the data science career path on my channel for those who are interested!
@@jaredgreyhand5348 I too would like a six figure salary, but it seems like from what I have read and been told, obtaining such salary will require a few years of experience and maybe some luck too. Given that I'm trying to level up my skills to at least obtain an entry level data analyst role while I pursue a masters in data science. I'd be content with around 40k as that would enable me to have enough income to afford my own one bedroom apartment and not have to live with roommates. Even if I started off at 40k as a data scientist, I'd still be content knowing that as I get more experience and expand on my skills my salary would hopefully go up.
@@donnelly5757 hello there! Some people with a bachelor's have gotten a starting 6 figure salary from where I've read. From what you said on luck, I totally agree with you. An Intern or more on data science would help you to gain some experience which may help you to gain a six figure salary but this would take up hard work. 365 data science has mentioned that in the near future, you may need just a bachelor's to qualify for a job. As for the 40k salary, I think thats too low for a data scientist even for a newcomer in the field. But hey, that's variable on where you're working. I watch Jomatech videos for my data science queries they are pretty resourceful. And it's always a pleasure to meet a fellow data scientist
I'm a statistics MSc graduate (as of a few weeks ago) from a top 100 university and am already seeing that I have to train myself in things like SQL, freshen up in R! Luckily I have a flexible job atm to play around with.
This video is great, thank you! I am considering going into data science after my current undergraduate degree, which involves statistics learning the programming language, R. However, I am thinking of changing my degree to a joint degree in business and taking new data science classes available from the business school. Changing degrees would allow me to know at least three programming languages upon graduation, compared to one currently. I would need to take an extra year of school to switch degrees, and I am wondering if you think it is a wise idea to get into the field? I study in the UK and financially taking another year of my undergraduate degree wouldn't be an issue, but I am wondering if it would be massively more beneficial career wise (to take various data science classes and learn several programming languages compared to only taking two or three classes learning one language.) For a company that is marketing data science courses and education, there are quite a few assumptions and causation correlations that come into question and are not supported in the video by itself. Add validity by speaking to your data collection methods beyond job site web scraping, support your text analysis and the statistical significance of your findings as you tell the story.

Thanks, but I'm even more confused right now. I am new in computer science as I have a background in accounting, a chartered accountant and at some point have analyzed financial reports. In other to be well positioned for the future, I recently developed an interest in data science, and seem more interested in ML or perhaps overall data scientist role. This video is pointing that to be successful, you have to come from a CS, statistics or economics background and it doesn't seem to give comfort to others from other discipline. Do I need to go back and redo a BA or BSc in computer science, or masters in data science to be able to breakthrough in the data science world? I am currently doing BBA program in Marketing and I will pursue an MBA program in Marketing as well, however I learned a lot about data analysis (mostly in excel and spss) and a freelancer as data analyst in fiverr. currently enrolled myself in google professional data analytics. Frankly speaking, data science feels fascinating to me and I want to learn this as well. Now, my question is if I self teach data science to myself, will this bring more chances of me getting into a top position of a corporate? will these skills as plus point in my career ? will these added skills make me stand out than others among my competitors ? if I pursue another master's in data science will that add more value to my resume?

How about an MBA plus bachelor's degree in computer science and engineering? As an MBA will help with the analytical part and computer science will help with the coding part.
To become data scientist u need programming skills ... Mainly python and R programing are necessary ...it's better if u do bca in data science or bca or bsc in statistics ! For PG u do mca in data science , mba data science or MSc in data science ....

There is bca and bca data science ...if you are interested to become data scientist u can choose bca data science it will really help u too develop ur skills ...but remember one thing ones if u choose bca data science then u cannot shift to another course that's the only disadvantage of choosing bca in specialised one ...to become data scientist u can choose ba in statistics or bsc in statistics it will really help u to improve your skills on statistics .... computer course is very much required to become data scientist

@@ayso1320 So to become a Data Scientist there are some required skill sets. I'll list them down here: 1. Python language 2. R Language Ps: Start with python language and eventually jump to R later. 3. Data Analysis (Using Python and R libraries) 4. Data Visualization ( Using various Python libraries) 5. Good understanding of Maths and Statistics. 6. Machine learning algorithms 7. Communication and presentation skills. Above mentioned are the basic skills needed to be acquire to become a data scientist. Above that any skill is cherry on top. The list might look small but when you start learning each skill you'll understand it's vast to grab the knowledge. As you are a commerce student you might think you are lagging behind of science students as you don't know any programming languages yet. But the bright side is you would probably have pretty good understanding in Statistics and Business domain. To learn the above skills go to udemy.com there you'll find many courses for data science and machine learning. I'll suggest you to first learn basics of Python language on RU-vid itself. Then jump on udemy and buy a course for data science which will get you a certificate too, eventually helping in your resume as well.
