I graduated high school in 2006 and played DII softball in college. I coached a bit after college in my hometown for a 13/14 then 15/16 year old team, and damn, this highlight video makes me miss playing SO much... like more than I have ever missed anything in my life. To any young women watching this currently playing or wanting to play (do it, girl... do it now), enjoy every single second. The long, hot practices. The early morning conditioning sessions. School work on the bus, sore muscles, the lingering smell of sun and dirt no matter how many times you wash your hair, the parties you miss because you’re in season, the events you miss when you’re out of season but still practicing or training 7 days a week. All of it; enjoy it. Cherish the friendships with your teammates, you will spend more time with them than your actual family, especially during college years. Soak it up and realize, before it’s too late, how lucky you are. One day you will put on your uniform for the last time. You will warm up with your team, recite your silly chants, dances and superstitious rituals in the dugout for the last time. If you’re lucky, you will make eye contact with your family as you sprint onto the field for the last time. You will step into the box or onto the mound for the last time. You will celebrate your final win or overanalyze the final loss. In the moment it’s special and you know it, but you really have no idea just how precious those years are until you drive away from the stadium and hang up jersey that final time. ❤️ Much love to all my fellow softball players before me and after me, and those still to come. We are all so lucky to have been a part of this incredible sport.
The play that starts around 1:05 made my jaw drop!! I’m a softball player, and these were all AMAZING plays!! Not even in high school yet, but I want to be like these girls when I’m in high school and older.
@@thatonebeannnn6202 Agree Bean....i was just commenting on how it seems the Go To Phrase now days is Let's Go! I remember when it was "Come On"! and another will follow soon enough! Cheers
@@TheStuport yeah it’s different ways on celebrating. When I make a nice play, bc I play baseball, I either say “let’s go” or something else I cant remember. But I always say something after a nice play
Girls softball is a really enjoyable relaxing watch. Men's sport is too much chest thumping, look at me nonsense. As a male who enjoys athletics, these girls embody the purity of, not me, but you, teamwork. Their enthusiasm is heart warming, Go USA,
OU had two of the most amazing defensive plays this past weekend, better than half those shown here, yet neither of which were included in this video. They're not just known for creating runs. As Patti Gasso and others have said, Grace Lyons is one of, if not the best shortstop in Division 1 softball. And, freshman, Jayda Coleman, has already thrown out several players from deep center field to home plate with that cannon of an arm-the latest one on Sunday. So amazing to watch all these talented gals. Can't wait for the World Series!!
I was a pitcher for 15 years actively then coached and did some lessons for 4-5 years after college. Catchers often don’t get the recognition or respect they deserve. I could never do what you girls do! ♥️ Are you currently in college or have a goal to play college ball ??
First baseman don't get enough love. They have to catch some crazy throws and also be part-gymnasts doing the splits often LOL. I'd love to see some amazing first base compilations.
@@avery07137 yeah they look like they suck compared to the absolute phenoms other players and teams are, if they played in softball and average to bad mlb player would dominate to new levels in softball
Iowa states is nice! I live in Iowa too. Every say your best play (if you play). Mine: Fly ball to center and throwing to first for a tag up and double play (Iowa state tournament).
Some of these girls start running before they hit the ball , is that how they are coached ? Wouldn’t they have a better chance of hitting the ball standing still ?
I am on 10u and I can make most of those plays the one I am best at it throwing from my knees I can throw from my knees from center to home but these are good plays
Ok, I’m not even in high school yet (I’m in middle school) so I’m wondering, how many umpires/refs (i said /refs to clarify in some people don’t know what umpires are) are there on older teams? (Please don’t hate on anything i said. I’m still learning 😊
NCAA Softball Official Rulebook states that the minimum number is (1) Plate Umpire and (1) Base Umpire that must be contracted to officiate each game. However, NCAA Division 1 games will typically have (1) Plate Umpire, and (2) Base Umpires during the regular season, and for Regionals, Super-Regionals, and the WCWS, the NCAA mandates that there will be (1) Plate Umpire and (3) Base Umpires.
Watching these highlights being called the "best defensive plays" reminds me of the absolute BS calls against Oklahoma for blocking the plate in the post season, and the announcers attempting to validate it as the right call. Even the folks running the NCAA Championships RU-vid channel don't agree.
