my favorite post ive seen is "marcille isn't fussy about eating monsters because she's The Girl, she's fussy about eating monsters because she's Italian"
Living armour is a known phenomenon at least among people making a living in the dungeon. But the average explorer probably doesn't care if the armour is animated by magic, man or mollusk since it doesn't change the method of dealing with them. Basically, nerds are nerds in any universe, no one cares about what they're on about. Wait...
You cut the part where Laios frees Marceille from the plant and then asks her straight up "Oh man it wasn't going to kill you so how comfy was it?!" and she just stares at him in silence like "You fucking PSYCHO!" 1:01 will always be the funniest to me because that's the scene THAT INTRODUCED ME TO DELICIOUS IN DUNGEON OUT OF CONTEXT IT'S JUST FUCKING AMAZING HA 2:41 HOW DID LAIOS NOT CUT HIS FINGERS DOING THAT LMAO
Swords aren’t that sharp, especially near the cross-guard (the Ricasso). You could grab the blade bare-handed and not cut yourself. If you wanted to, you could actually use the sword as a makeshift bludgeon by holding the blade and striking with the cross-guard.
@@devranyilmaz9806 Just saw this, oh wow. I didn't know that, thanks for telling me! "Half-swording is a medieval sword fighting technique where the swordsman holds the blade of the sword with one hand, typically the off-hand, while still holding the hilt with the other hand. This technique allows the swordsman to use the sword as a mace or hammer, and is often used in armoured combat." Short excerpt for anyone who wants to read it. Also I'm gonna guess that swords are sharp but the effectiveness comes in the force behind it right? In the sense of a stabbing motion or a swing?
I honestly think that the Dungeon Meshi dub is probably the greatest dub of all time. Everyone understood the assignment. It's the only series where I watched subs first and then went back for the dub just because it's that good.
2:04 Why is everyone lookin' at me like that? That is so me! I love Laios! Okay, Senshi is totally me! I love baking bread!!!! 0:58 Autism powers activate! Love this guy!! Yay Emily Rudd's first voice acting gig! Not her first time with anime! She's a total weeb and is live action Nami in One Piece!
@@alifffakarudin2134 I love that we have more GOOD female writers. Many are surprised this was written by a woman, but I think it explains why we have a female character who's written more like a real person (who's not just there for fanservice or romantic subplots, and is actually funny). And why we have a main human character who's not a generic anime protagonist, and a dwarf who women say is the kind of man they'd actually want to marry (hence why he gets all of the fanservice 😂).
Honestly I'd def be a white mage just for support or a blue mage for utility and range lol so this appeals to me quite a bit since even in shooters I usually play support alot as a habit of wanting to help my team lol sadly I have no friends to play with but that's okay
Actually, Marcille's more so a general mage/sorceress, while Falin was more so the support. It's why Marcille is pretty proficient in destructive magic like explosions, fire, and traps, but wasn't as great in support magic as Falin is.
@@alifffakarudin2134 While I never heard that specific story, Ryoko Kui is definitely that type of person. The manga has a few references to the Wizardry game series, and she made watercolor alternate character portraits for Baldur's Gate 2. She also made a doodle once about pestering the Dwarf Fortress creators to create a Japanese translation.
@@6318374 Marcille is just an overcomplainer. She always comes around in the end, and mentally she's too focused on Fallin to let things get to her. Chilchuck on the other hand is the one slowly going insane from everyone's antics. He just keeps it bottled up most of the time.
@@Queen_Tiamat Honestly, I kind of see Marcille as kind of alternating both Girl Boss and Girl Failure, she has the knowledge and power, but limited field experience and a not very cool collected personality, there are times where she shows extreme competence and there are times she makes massive blunders.
“Give it to me! I can make BREAD with it! BREAD! BREAD! BREAD!!!” 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 They made panels I forgot about in the manga into one of my favorite scenes lol
I tend to prefer subs over dubs in anime, but I love the Dungeon Meshi dub. Both versions are great, but watching the English version reminds me of playing Dungeons and Dragons with friends. The occasional awkward or goofy-sounding moment, just adds to the experience.
Appropriate considering that the inspiration from the story came from a DnD (or at least the "legally distinct" d6 based DnD they have in Japan) campaign.
Yep, I do think Marcille is infinitely more charismatic and better written (arguably the best elf character I've ever seen), but Frieren is a decent character nonetheless. Talking about other female protagonists who have a actual personality, I heard the protagonist of "The Apothecary Diaries" is also pretty good
@@RRRRRRRRR33the main difference between Frieren and Marcille is that the first one is portrayed like a representative of another race not by how she looks, but by her mind. Due to her incredible lifespan, knowledge and magic power, Frieren sees the World in a completely different way than human beings. And that's the main reason of why she looks and behaves like an alien in human society. This cannot be said about Marcille. She's basicaly a human with sharp ears. The conflicts that she's having with the others are just a matter of her personality, not her elf nature. Don't get me wrong, I still love both of them, but in way of showing some critical differences between elfs and humans Frieren did a better job.
Damien Haas and Emily Rudd basically steal every scene. Surprising since it’s the latter’s first anime role. Unless you count being Nami in live action One Piece lol
I honestly love how competency insane about bread Sehshi is. If you think about it you'd usually need a lot of things to align in a medieval society to make bread. Need grain farming, milling for flour, bakers and ovens for those bakers so you'd also need society to have developed ceramics at least. The reality is that Senshi probably doesn't get to eat bread a lot if he lives in the dungeon, so it's probably more of a rare treat for him?
You've made me reconsider that scene. I make bread all the time and I've killed more sourdough starters than I'd like to admit. I know the difficulties of bread making but the fact that it would be rare for Senshi makes his love for bread way more wholesome to me.
That’s a good point! He can make lots of things in the dungeon similar to other foods (like noodles), but freshly baked bread in a dungeon could be rare. You could probably make simple flat breads easier, sure, but a fluffy loaf of yeast-risen goodness is a whole ‘nother creature. Not only is it fluffy, warm and delicious, bread has so many culinary uses! 🤩 I feel that way about eggs and how many uses they have, but with all of the monsters, they’d hardly be a rarity.
She is the protagonist, no pun intended. She has way more screen time than everyone else, the plot advanced because of her, etc.. she is a awesome character, I love Marcille to a point of buying a action figure in the near future
Damien Haas stole this show for me, The voicing is perfect and makes the awkward moment just that more embarassing but hilarious to watch. Also Liaos 'Cawing' at the cockatrice will never fail to make me snort😂
The first clip alone is so funny. An entire team of newbie adventurers got their ass kicked by a bottom-tier enemy that was so weak that even Marcille, a _mage,_ could one-shot it in melee.
Usually I prefer subs over dubs, but dmeshi honestly has a better dub than it does sub. An observation I’ve made is that most Netflix funded anime have amazing dubs. Go test out the theory, my children
1:35 Charles Darwin moment right here XD For those who doesn't know, Charles Darwin Doesn't just study animals that he found. He also taste their flesh because he was curious about it. He also made a club where he share the meat with other friends to have a global opinion (it has ended after they taste the flesh of a brown owl that they considered as... Not describable. We can guess that was the worst meat they ever tasted).
They weren't looking at him cause he's weird, which he is, it's cause they're about to eat something nobody even knew existed and they want to see if it hurts him.
When you're so disgusted, you do a handstand. To be fair I don't see why people were so annoyed by her in the first few episodes. She brings up a lot of good points about how eating monsters can be bad or unsafe
First episode: “marcille’s gonna be an annoying character in this anime, this is prob some food wars rip off” Second episode: HAHA MARCILLE IS SUFFERING AGAIN
Is it only me who thinks the english voiceactors doesent fit very well their caracters? Laios sounds in english way to manly and rational. (In german he sounds more curious, young, happy, naive), english Chilchucks voice is to childlike and less sarcastic, and english Marcilles freak outs are also very chill & tame in comparison to her german self.
Zero IQ marcil isn't just hilarious, but the most openly honest, that one moment probably did the most good for her than any time she was put together cause she actually expressed her feelings.
