Hi everybody! Yes I'm still alive! Sorry for the delay =) This was filmed in 2019, pre COVID-19. Oh my God! I have been to Lin Heung many times in the 80s! My late uncle brought me there many times as young teen. One time, I ate 15 assorted dimsums by myself and my unlce told that story many, many times when he visits us in Manila. I love the old-style dimsum houses of HK. So much more character that adds to the deliciousness of the food.
Dude!! Super fired up to eat dim sum in HK!! My fav place in the whole wide world!!! Especially Din Tai Fung...oh man!!! I wonder how good it will be!!! 😆😍😆 Thanks for sharing!! Can’t wait to vlog there!! 🔥
Yay! Hi Virginia, glad to see your new video. In San Francisco Bay area, we are all sheltered-in-place in our homes. Panic buying occurred for a time but has calmed down. I'm so glad that you're ok (I assume since you put up a new video). I'm ready with masks and disposable gloves. Hoping we all get back to normal life again soon.
Really like the old style place. Reminds me of the ones that my grand dad used to take me to. Lovely. Never seen the Maxim's Palaces... Can see why it used to be only "posh" people would go to. But now it seems to be catering for the office working classes. Interesting.
I really realise why people keep blabbing online about "eat, drink, play".... Surely, there needs to be an actual sustainable economy ? I don't get what is going on in HK.
One Dim Sum is the best and No.1 dimsum restaurant in HK. Period!! No other restaurant comes close to it for taste, freshness and quality! And don’t forget to try their chilli sauce which is heaven!!
you should review kung fu dim sum at yau ma tei. I would say their pak koo min fa kai chung cai fan is damn good. their ma lai ko is also highly recommended.
lin heung tea houes is absolutely terrible... the quality isn't very good... and the fact you guys are recommending this is a joke. it's more for the history but quality of the food isn't good.
I love dim sum but your recommended traditional dim sum places require you to wash your dishes before eating. They are noisy and I am not sure you shared a table with strangers. I believe food has to be good but not to sacrifice basic health, cleanliness, and privacy.
Adam Shaiken yes sorry, you’re not the only who thought that 🤣 but nope just got busy with other things but since everybody’s at home for quarantine life, I’ll see if I can bang out some more
You're the best! So fun having spent a day with you in January and eating our way through Hong Kong.... and learning about the city's culture & more. Continue to stay healthy. Happy to see you out & about.
Not sure if you guys cares but if you are stoned like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all the new movies and series on instaflixxer. Have been watching with my girlfriend lately :)
Yes, that is basic information, and I'm surprised the distinction was not made in the video. No need to point out Din Tai Fung does not have Cantonese dim sum like har gow and shu mai when it is not a Cantonese restaurant. DTF specializes in northern style dumplings, not Cantonese dim sum, and it does a really good job of it too. We were so excited when DTF came to the San Francisco Bay Area, although we had to drive almost to San Jose when they opened their first location here.
I remember the ritual of washing the cup/bowls here in Liverpool back in the 1970s. Interesting to see it is still done in some places in HK. Are the cups/bowls already clean - is it just a ritual ?
Oh yum yum haha but so confusing though, it’s called Thai orchids, but they do Dimsum and they also have soup dumplings (Shanghainese/Taiwanese food traditionally not part of Dimsum). It’s an Asian fusion! 🤪 thanks for watching and sharing your recommendations - will have to try when I make it back over to North America!
One DimSum is the best for regular DimSum... except for limited choice, eg, no taro puffs ! You're right about Tim Ho Wan , which thanks to Michelin's promotion has many branches in Asia as well ! Din Tai Fung is not a DimSum place but their Shui Loong bao is excellent ! 👌 Thanks for the videos they were great and fun to watch !
Yes! The VC of HK is back🤟🏽. Welcome back girl good to see you back on the tube....hope you have enough TP in the house....it’s going mad over here in shops people stock piling like morons🤦🏽♂️. You gotta take me to that Maxims restaurant next time looks beautiful....Top 10 bakeries next 😃
Lived in HK for 7 months..... went to One Dim Sum 2-3 times per week. Best Har Gow in HK. Top 2 and 3: Tim Ho Wan (best pork bun) and Dim Sum One in Jordan.
Great video!! I loved Tim Ho Wan (SSP), granted we had to get there before they open just to get a table back in 2015. 100% agree about the 雪山叉烧包; that was the first time I had one and now I can't good back to a regular 叉烧包.
Ah yes, many happy memories of Maxim's Palace in Sha Tin. My parents used to make me and my sister wait in line with the ticket whilst they went shopping! 🤣🤣🤣
No thanks. Rather not share a table, wash my dishes. Order what I want rather than push and shove what’s on the cart even though that’s what’s traditional
To add another perspective, I disagree, although it has been a while since I've been to one of their locations and never in Hong Kong. I've been to the one in Santa Clara, CA and Beijing. My elderly parents also thought they were pretty good. It is pricey though.
Great Canadian HK resident reporting on the tourist information specifically on local snack informal eatery establishments good research work perfect score 10/10 keep it up until next time
