Shes not lying this works 100% of the time! In fact it works so well I run inside after lighting it. I don't like the smell of burnt coffee and lavendar either. No bites! Brilliant
@mspat8195 I think the amount of lighter fluid she used is misleading. I'm literally using it right now. I will di anything to keep mosquitoes away. So even though she may know what she's talking about. I keep having to add the damn lighter fluid to keep it going! I've almost used 1/2 a bottle...I'm going to keep it going though cause them basttards aren't touching me!
Oh yeah because going out & buying & planting several plants in the ground around your house is a lot easier than trying some type of a DIY bug repellent huh.... 🤷🏻♀️😳🫤🫤🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤣🤣 Just to be clear, I'm also not saying this particular one is a good idea either lol 😆😜
Unfortunately you don’t set your house and guest on fire w this idea though. Boring. Jk My sweet Mother is still trying to help me grow the lavender around myhouse that we’ve been in for 7 years now bc the mosquitoes tear us up here (S.C) I don’t have a green thumb but I’m still going to look into the other plants you’ve listed Thanks!! 🤞
I bought a vaporizor (at a thrift store) and put eucalyptus essential oil in with the water and have it run at my back door to keep flies and mosquitoes from coming in the house. They don’t like it.
I use them in the garden. Cats don’t like the smell so when they try to claw around before pooing, it bothers them enough to where they’ll choose another dump site. I call my local Starbucks and ask them to keep their grounds for me. They gladly will and I’ll spend 1/2 an hr breaking up 20# of pellets and spreading them around. It lasts for 10 days before I have to do it again. I also throw any plain coffee (or old milk, for that matter) straight into my planters. They absolutely love it! (Your garden area will reek of coffee but it’s not too bad especially if you like the smell.)
It does work, tried it a while back. Key is using a container that has a lid. The lighter fluid burns off quickly but it keeps smoking and that keeps the bug’s away. It’s definitely not going to burn the house down
I usually take an old Lysol wipe container, rinse it out. I open up one of those packs of Kirkland, baby wipes, or any baby wipes for that matter, separate them and fill up the container. then I buy the old-school brown Listerine… fill up the container with it. Once the little pests come out… we grab a wipe and rub it on legs, arms, whatever you need… Works like a charm and it’s safe to use👍🏻
Purchase the plants instead. They add a little greenery (some actually have little flowers.) and the mosquitos stay away. I have them near my front porch and my garage. I can enjoy my front yard again!
It absolutely does work. You dont need the oil at all. It is a smelly burn. PeeYeww. The idea isn't that the fire keeps the bugs away, its the heavy smoking after the fire goes out.
exactly. i see very clearly we are dealing w/ the gen that had a safety covers and locks on Everything growing up. They are a danger to themselves and others.
Using old coffee grinds is more sensible. Dry them out. Heck, you could even put about half a cup in a muffin tin. Press down to shape a packed disc. Place into a 200 degree oven (just the coffee please do not put lighter fluid into an oven ever ). Leave the door open a crack to let moisture out. Remove after 40 minutes or so. Allow to cool and dry completely at room temperature. Add lavender and whatever accelerant you prefer right before use. Be sure to use it in an outdoor area, away from fire hazards, blah blah blah.
I was at a bbq yesterday and they did this same thing, but they had the pans sitting on metal trays. I didn't get one bite and we were there for hours.

Having put out a fire (on my bosses deck) when a cute but cheap candle melted the thin metal bottom & set the deck stain/paint on fire...the "don't leave candles unattended advice is great but ignored when someone says " pizzas here" *grandpa's gonna sing Danny Boy" or "whose car alarm is that?"⁸ and now the deck is unattended😢
Back in the 80s we burnt entire lawns no one ran off to get pizza or check what ever, and people were almost never alone, if u went for pizza there was usually an aunt or uncle attending what's needed. People worked together back then. We didn't see a problem and think this ain't my problem and go off and do other stuff we helped each other and looked out for each other. Iv raised my family to be normal so a small fire doesn't mean your house will burn down

I cut one in half and stuffed the juicy side with cloves and then placed halves about 8 feet apart on my porch and didn’t see any mosquitoes around there. I even left them there overnight and enjoyed sitting there mosquito free this afternoon. Thanks for asking!
You can do the same thing with coffee grounds used ones just dry them and you don't need to add any lighter fluid to it or essential oils Now you just find a log with a flat surface sprinkle on some dried coffee and light it it'll burn and it will smoke and the smoke is what keeps away the mosquitoes and the gnats.
How long will it burn for? Will it burn to benefit the the price of the coffee? Or will you be burned from the price of the coffee, pan and lighter fluid ? Or will you just get burned?
Cheap; coffee grounds-$6 Lighter fluid $6 Lavender oil $7 Lighter $3 Equal==== Could have just bought 2 of the triple wick citronella candles from Home Depot.
So- the lavender essential oil is highly flammable... and then lighter fluid? On coffee? (which are called grounds - not grinds)... In a foil (not metal) lasagna tray? If by "get rid of bugs" you mean burn your house down - this'll do it. If only they had those candles, set in fire retardant cylinders, in which we could light, that would deter insects....
I just tried this tonight. It absolutely does work, but damn, it doesn't last long enough. Even now, I keep having to add lavendar and lighter fluid! The amount of lighter fluid you used is not enough!

Step 1: Got to The Home Depot Step 2: Purchase Citronella plants (which is cheaper than burning coffee. Step 3: Place them where you are entertaining outdoors. Step 4: Mosquitos disappear from area. Step 5: Enjoy!
We burn the free recyclable cardboard coffee trays in the woods where I’m from as they just smolder after you light them than blow the flame out they produce a lot of smoke and it doesn’t stink either ….
We tried this on the 4th. Let me tell you hunny it was an epic fail. It burned for 5 min and went out. I thought the coffee would smolder but it didn’t. Maybe my coffee wasn’t cheap enough.
She says use coffee grounds, but she's showing instant coffee. And it looks like the instant coffee burns quickly by bubbling and boiling. Used and dried coffee grounds would probably burn longer, right?
The lavender is a bug repellent on its own so just add it to your lit candle and dont start a fire and burn your house down like this woman tried to do
