Our building at work is brick and steel beam, we have a HDTV in the lobby. We've tried 4 different antennas (1) 30 mile, (1) 60 mile and (2) amplified 60 mile. None of them have been reliable and zero have been able to pull in CBS on VHF. Watched your RU-vid video and decided to give it a try. You are exactly right... a stick of dynamite! It has been THE ONLY antenna to pull in VHF channels, and all of the UHF channels have solid reception. The proofs in the pudding and your antenna has delivered. Our secretary will have a Christmas surprise when she returns to work and sees the Price is Right on CBS/VHF. Thank you much for the DIY video.

I made one based on this design, I have in attic with 50 foot RG6 coax leading thru walls to garage where I have a 4 port channel master amplifier that goes to 3 TVs in house. The only thing I did different is I removed my reflector and I had a better result (in my area my towers are in all directions so a reflector worked against me). Also I used 8 gauge copper, made bends at 9.5" instead of 6 making my copper length of 76", then for mount I used a 4 foot long 2x2 with PCV "T" mounted to that with "L" bracket. This design outperformed the Clearstream 4-Max which retails for 149.00. I only spent 12 in parts to make this antenna. I never thought of using a drill to straighten out that copper. Thanks Danny.

The main modification that I made was I combined the UHF and VFH signals and ran it to a CannelMaster 3414 4-port distribution amplifier and ran it to 4 TVs in my home. All the TVs get excellent reception with over 40 channels here in North Las Vegas. Again ,Thank you.

Danny, Im sorry to tell you that you can't go around telling and showing everything you know. Unfortunately, the world we live in is full of dirty narcissist ppl who have no morals whatsoever. Like snakes just waiting to bite you the first chance they get. And like a leech, just waiting to feed off of you. Therefore, they will not care to take "ALL YOUR IDEAS" and take blatant pride and say it's theirs. They have no shame in their game. Its awesome that you have decided to share all your knowledge and make inventions and that says alot about you. An honest, generous and kind hearted man. Hopefully, i can buy the materials and find the necessary tools to make this antenna for my mom. If i decide to make some of your model antennas and sell them, trust me, I'll send you your profit share. Keep up your goodwill work. But don't share all your knowledge. It is only yours. Take care Danny😀😀😀

Amplifiers only benefit the signal if it is above the noise floor of the amplifier, they are used for long cable run line loss or the signal is split to a few receivers. A broad band amp would never have a better noise figure than a tuner, so putting an amplifier right next to a receivers Ant input would not help. Signal to noise ratio is the important part and ATSC has a tolerance for noise. Cable companies do not use ATSC because it takes too much bandwidth they use QAM .

My camper antenna pulls in same signals and it’s a 16th the size of the house antenna. Thank you for taking the time to make the videos. I find editing the videos to be the biggest pain. Danny, the bottom antenna is called a bi-quad. The top is called a dipole. The bi-quad can be improved by adding 2 more diamond or squares on each end. 2 can be enough if the signals you are wanting are strong enough. If the signals are weak add the two extra but do not let them touch at the corners. Your reflector will work better if they are 2 1/2 inches or so from the main element. You can experiment by moving your reflector to find an improved spot. And then again you may not for reception only. But try it some time.

I figured the next one would be just as good but could never duplicate the success of that one antenna. Don't know if it was the wire, mesurements or what but I'm still trying. The design with wire coat hangers worked fine but I keep trying to get more distant stations. Never had luck using two antennas pointed in I different directions. Bottom line, its fun trying to make one better.

First time i have watched this video and it looks awesome. I’ve used the RCA filter/booster on our outdoor antenna and agree that it works even on our 30 year old arial tv antenna. Now i am gonna try and make a new antenna and see if i can get the boost i need.

I have watched this video for the fourth time because it's so good. I have taken an antenna I bought and modified it just a little and getting 100 miles. This one is one I'm going to use as an add on to another one for 200 miles.

Thanks for sharing. I spent over 47 dollars for 2 indoor antennas the 20 dollar one broke right away and the 27 dollar one is flat and too small and doesn't work worth a flip. I'm gonna try this here ...Thanks A Lot.

you most likely made a "bowtie" antenna. it looks quite similar. This is NOT a bowtie. This is a biquad.

I subscribed because you have some good antenna ideas. I have 40 years experience in electronics, but am impressed by your antenna design. I used to work at a cable tv company as a bench tech and it was my job to test many kinds of matching-transformers (baluns). You are right that they are not all the same. Some of them will not pass UHF. A good method of testing any design is using the TV menu to select CHANNEL SEARCH and write down the signal level. Most tv's have that feature. I used a wavetek sweep analyzer, but the TV signal level meter would give you a good enough reading to compare various antennas. Excellent video and I can't wait to see what else you have on your channel. Dave Mundy from St. Louis, Missouri.

Nice! You just inspired me to see if I can go out and make one. BTW, adding in a few free-ranging roosters & hens could be ok. The atmosphere has got me feeling better.. I can actually smell that cigarette you tossed in the corner there. Good video.

Hi,Danny. You might solder the 300-ohm side of the balun to the copper elements, prevents trouble a few years down the road. And that device you are talking about for combining vhf and uhf signals is called a splitter-combiner.Phasing lines mounted behind the reflector can be used instead(check the theory in the ARRL handbook). I've used both. And the booster is to make up for any losses in the line. From an old tech in the Canadian maritimes.

Why VHF? Hasn't all the new digital gone to UHF? Normally height is more important that gain. That being the case I built a fan dipole with 3 elements for my camper so I could string it up a tree and it works great here in Texarkana. I forget how many stations but was 5-6. We went camping up in the Ozarks I strung it up 15ft and zero! But its a deep valley where we go camping. I am thinking of building a Slim Jim next. This way I can pull it higher in the tree and it has more gain.

@@brentjohnson6654 I thought it was a nationwide move forced by the government that everything go digital and move to UHF. Back when they gave the converter boxes away around 2006-2008 or so.

I watched a video recently of a man comparing a really cheap flat 3 dollar antenna, to one that looked like it had those old rabbit ears to a really expensive one. He didn't have great success with any of them. I referred him to your channel and told him "why not make your own antenna. Check out Danny Hodges channels. He will show you step by step how to build a nice antenna. " So there are times when you get the credit that you are due. I built a Gray Hoverman with your guide and it gets great reception. Something like 116 channels, but I do live pretty close to the towers. When people come over to watch the NFL games, they cannot believe how crystal clear the reception of the channels are...so thanks!
