Always nice to see fellow drone pilots doing real rage tests instead of flying it around and around great video and thanks for sharing it I really enjoyed it 👍 🇬🇧
Boss, one thing is to test out the range capabilities of your drone (range test). I’m sure it’s common among drone owners, but to post the video for everyone to see is another thing. The faa is known to look at videos and reach out.
@J&E - I wish you luck with your new channel, but you're definitely playing with FAA fire flying waaay beyond VLOS at 3 1/2 miles and posting your videos on RU-vid. Even if you really have spotters along the route (which I sincerely doubt), it's obvious that no one, other than Superman or someone sporting binoculars or a telescope (both verboten), could actually see your tiny M4P drone flying along at 400 ft altitude, even directly above. I have both the original Mini 1 and the M4P and they both tend to vanish quickly way before they're 400 feet away, or above. Obviously, DJI's light grey color scheme doesn't help at all to keep sight of the tiny drone. My old fart advice is to nix the range tests before you get the dreaded FAA phone call, or worse. I suggest looking on YT for recent range tests in the USA. There's a good ($$$) reason why people have mostly stopped doing these. That reason is the FAA is watching and they're prosecuting RU-vid offenders, such as yourself. It's up to you, of course. Good luck!
Thank you and thanks for the advice! This is an amazing drone and you’re right when it’s a few blocks away it disappears!! As far for the range test I am done with those I have other items I am working on. :)
Can the Home Point be updated on the fly? I’m thinking like flying it while on a hike that once I’ve left the original launch point can I update the Home Point so RTH would still be fairly accurate? Or a better option would be to set RTH to always return to controller, RTC.
There’s an issue with this! Currently right now the Home Point be updated to either the drone or to the controller and I think a location. The problem with this is it’s not live update meaning say you update it to the controller and you walk another mile well whenever it returns home it’s gonna go to the location you originally set. Hopefully DJI will correct this.
I never owed the mini 2 so I am not sure what the normal range should be. I do know the mini 4 does have a lot better range compared to the previous mini models. It could just be how the mini 2 is or you are having some kind of interference with something on the ground not sure. There could be a number of reasons.
In an urbun environment with WIFI interference the Mini 2 doesn't do that good. Out in the open away from that though it does well. Ocusync 3 and 4 have better anti intererence around WIFI.
Does the US officially have remote ID now for drones over 250g? If/when it becomes a thing over here in thr UK (and I hope it doesn’t) then they reckon it’ll even include sub 250g drones! Anyway, as for my question…. With DJI drones already having RID built in, would the Mini 4 Pro prompt you or warn you about RID when you power up with the heavier battery? Cheers, Steve
I am registered with FAA but here is what I found. Recreational Drones Under 250g Exemption Criteria: Drones weighing under 250 grams (approximately 0.55 lbs) are exempt from the requirement to be registered with the FAA for recreational use. Consequently, these lightweight drones do not need to comply with Remote ID requirements March 3,2024. All drones must be registered, except those that weigh 0.55 pounds or less (less than 250 grams) and are flown under the Exception for Limited Recreational Operations. Drones registered under the Exception for Limited Recreational Operations cannot be flown under Part 107.Mar 18, 2024 I have the plus battery and no I don’t get any kind of warning on my RC2 controller.
@@JandE-TEX-DRONES Thsnks for that. I’ve just popped a mini 3 battery into my mini 4 and it didn’t bring up any warning either.. and yet I’m sure it used to do (I tried it when I first got my mini 4 pro) maybe they’ve changed it 🤔 The mini 3 pro’s batteries take the weight of the mini 4 pro over the 250g, as does the extended battery for the mini 4 (hence my question about you possibly needing remote ID) In fact we can’t even get the extended batteries over here. Well, not through the official channels anyway. Cheers Steve
@@Steve_G7RTA After reading your question I wondered if you had someone buy them over here in the states and then ship the box over there. When you tried to use them over there would it be allowed? Also if I took my took my DJI M4P over there would it still be in FCC mode?
@@JandE-TEX-DRONES Buying the batteries in the US and shipping them over here would be one way around it, but unlike yourself I’m not actually registered for heavier drones, so I wouldn’t want to go down that route myself (thanks anyway, if you were offering 😀) Interesting question about you bringing your drone over here tho.. I’m not sure. I’m guessing it would still work under FCC but at same time wouldn’t be legal. There are dozens of RU-vid videos on how to change the drones to FCC with the so called “FCC Hack”. I know many Brits have done it and extended the range as a result. But at the same time, there have been (at least 2) prosecutions for pilots that have installed the hack. I think both were caught doing other things tho and had their drones examined..and found to have the fcc hack installed. Cheers Steve
I use UAV FORECAST. It all depends on the drone. You can set your wind speed on the app so if the wind and wind gust are over this amount it will let you know its not a good day to fly. Specs say the following: mini 4 pro, specs are that the drone can withstand 23mph winds.
Nice flight. They're a great wee drone the mini 4 pro. I brought myself one a couple of months ago, and to be fair it's quite expensive if you want 4 batterys. Just on $2000 New Zealand dollars is what I paid for mine but I'm happy, I love it and I don't have buyers remorse even at that price 🚁💸
I paid around $1255.00 for the DJI MINI 4 Pro RC 2 and it came with the 3 batteries that came with the charging station. It was high but I think well worth it! Its a great drone!
nice flight 👍but when you was going thru your settings i would have the RTH set to preset not optimal so the drone will rise to your set altitude and fly back avoiding hitting any buildings. i know the mini 4 has obstacle avoidance but its not 100%
I find that sometimes this can happen even when I am constantly facing the drone. Maybe a phone/controller compass calibration is needed from time to time?
As long as you have people watching your drone at all times along your path you should be fine. With the DJI MINI 4 pro try to see it in the air when its like 8 blocks away.
@@JandE-TEX-DRONES Not trying to be VLOS police here, but no. A chain of visual observers, or spotters, is not approved as VLOS. The spotter needs to be right next to the pilot.
Yes, I totally agree! It’s been raining the last few days so I haven’t been able to fly, but I want to go find a country road and do active track with my truck and put it the drone in fast track and sport mode sport and do a video also. Also I’d love to do a range test in the country!! In time!
As long as you have people watching your drone at all times along your path and I believe you were just fine. I guess if the they came to my location to see if I had that they would know. After as seeing your drone and controller location. I know you are able to see that sometimes with different apps but you do have to be a certain distance from the drone I think.
@@JandE-TEX-DRONES If you had people over the pathway to look at your drone... I do believe that them too have to have their basic licenses. But again.... I am not sure. But that's what I have heard. What I don't know is, if the authorities knows that you are flying out of visual line of sight.
No the spotters don’t have to have 107. I have some info below on this. As far as seeing the drone and controller location there are apps out there but they do seem a little spotty. This is one test that I want to do. Do you own a drone? If so what kind? I love flying mine like most. Its relaxing . Role of the Visual Observer To maintain VLOS, you must use a visual observer who can help you keep an eye on the drone and provide you with situational awareness. A visual observer is a person who is designated to assist the drone pilot in maintaining VLOS. The observer's primary role is to maintain direct visual observation of the drone and provide the pilot with information about the drone's location, altitude, and flight path. The observer must also ensure that the drone remains within the VLOS and alert the pilot if it goes beyond the VLOS. The visual observer must have good situational awareness and be able to identify any potential hazards that may pose a threat to the drone's flight. The observer must also be able to communicate effectively with the pilot and provide accurate information about the drone's flight path and location.
@@JandE-TEX-DRONES Yes I do have a mini 4 pro. Will go in the wild for 2 months soon. I wanted to buy a +battery but I am not sure if they see what I am doing with it or not. That is why I didn't buy the + battery. Not that I will do anything wrong... But the VLOS probably be the most common one as there's trees all over the place.
Just at the beginning. Two things working against you. First is the wind. Best choice is flying perpendicular so it is directly from one side, but it is still going to work on the battery. Second is the flight environment. Tons of houses & Wi-Fi. Do you have any open water or rural options in your area? Below is a Mini 3 Pro video. 27,041' & she could have gone further. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jdfGQZfOWFA.htmlsi=LAuAS_mmWWJY3-Fn
Actually, that’s something I’m looking for I do I’m in Texas, but I will. I don’t want to drive all over creation to get to it. Later on we are going to Kentucky so most likely will check it out there. With that said, I was pretty impressed at how far it did go with all the houses and buildings and lines and everything else. Thanks for your comment. I’ll definitely check out your video.
@@JandE-TEX-DRONES - Thanks. That is my go-to range test spot. Unfortunately the bridge you see in the video is the Key Bridge that was struck by a ship & collapsed a couple of months ago. The entire area is now under a TFR & a No Fly Zone. :(
Pure unadulterated clickbait title...why was this the best??? 1. You didn't even check weather conditions before your flight, had you done this you'd known the winds would be too high for a decent range test. 2. It's generally best to do the PIP(picture in picture) reverse of what you did. No one wants to see the landscape in large view your remote screen should be the focus so you can see the specs as you fly. 3. You barely made it over 3.6 miles wasting critical battery power changing settings, dude that should all e done before hand. You also wasted juice using obstacle avoidance - you're flying above everything in sight so it's pointless. 4. Lastly and most importantly you need to be in a wide open area not the middle of the city. You can have 50 satellites but from the time you launched you're fighting against thousands of home computers, phones, remote vehicles and toys all begging for frequencies near what your drone is on. Not to mention buildings and trees.
Yes I did check the weather but winds were stronger than my previous flight. I always check the weather. The reason I am in a city because it's a real world test not where there are there is nothing effecting me. This usually what people deal with when they fly around their locations. Yes I could have flown in a desert but not really what I wanted to do. Yes I did waste some battery changing setting :).Thanks for watching and commenting!
