Another great video. Thanks to HTTADD, we crate trained our puppy from the start. When she needed an extended stay at the vet's office around 6 months old, the vet was very impressed with her ease and comfort going in the crate there. Things were stressful enough for her, and feeling safe in a crate made it so much easier for her! She's two now, and her crate is still a favorite place to sleep and nap!
Yes, the suggestions about crates, gates, and play pens were great. I shared this video with a friend who just got a puppy and was asking me about the crate and play pen we got our puppy. We go the MidWest crate with divider and play pen and love them. We took your advice in the past about using a sheet to cover it at night and to use a baby video monitor to watch our puppy from another room. We are now using the play pen to block off a room we do not want our 15 month old puppy in. Our puppy loves sleeping and resting in her crate and does not mind being in it when we are not home or even when we are home. :) Please do some reviews on bowls, training treats, balls for fetch, and toys for those puppies that chew up toys quickly. Our puppy has KONG balls, a large red KONG wobbler, puppy KONG, and KONG bone, but has managed to scratch and chew pieces off on the KONG balls, wobbler, and bone. Note that we watch her when she has these toys so she does not digest any pieces she pulls off. Then we hide them in a cabinet so she cannot get to them without us. Thanks much! You are all so great and helpful to all dog owners especially new ones like me. :)
I have 2 older dachshunds (ages 3 and 8) and a new puppy. When do I allow the puppy to interact with my older dogs? Do I leash my puppy indoors when playing with her?
You'll find some good tips on introducing a puppy to the resident dogs in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RDKKyCTdX4I.html We don't suggest keeping the leash on when playing as it could get caught on something. Use the leash for dedicated training sessions, potty breaks and exercise.
Hi, new 8wk old aussie labradoodle. What brand and size of pen do you recommend for her, i like the one in her video that has room for her crate at end. thanks
Congrats on your new puppy! Here's a link to the products we recommend. You'll find the pen and crate options there. www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/products/
I didn't find the links for crates in description unless I am blind 😔 I would love to go through blogs and other material because if you don't know how to use any product effectively, just having all that stuff is useless. Videos are super informative BUT it shouldn't be so hard to find simple links. It's only driving me away.
Yes, Eric, you're spot on with this answer! Be sure that your pup does not hit any of the sides of the crate while doing the stretching, laying or turning.
A random question about crate training. If I'm going to a place and the pup needs to be in the crate, should I put the pup in the crate? I don't know if it will make the puppy think that crate means the owner is leaving.
As long as you've spent some time working on crate training and your pup has built up a positive association to the crate, this should be fine!
