Homerun, Dr. Jones. I was horrified to find a hot spot on my little Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix. I was nervous that it would get worse and that I'd have to treat him with pharmaceuticals. After the first application of the tea/aspirin mix, he stopped licking it, meaning the discomfort subsided. After the second application, it dried up and appears to be healed. Thank you so much. I'm going to watch your kitchen spice for itching video next. He's an itchy guy. Thank you for being here.

THIS WORKS Just wanted to say, many thanks, as I have two Newfoundlands sisters and one had nipped the back on the other causing a hot spot, no doubt from the infected punctures that I only noticed when the hot spot started. I made a jam jar of tea ( about 1 pint ) and added 6 x 75mg dispersable asprins then swabbed the area 3 or 4 times a day and let it dry without wiping, it is all clear now. It was so tender to start with, clipping the hair back took a bit of doing, but it soon started to clear and each day looked better until a week later and it's all clear now. Over the week we used about 4 jars of tea. So once again many thanks, your the Man ! Btw if your dog has light hair, the tea will stain some hair, but it will grow out .... better a tea stain than a hot spot :-)

ATHANK YOU SO VERY MUCH. My little Malteese that I've only had for about six weeks now, has a couple hotspots on his rear end right above his tail. I don't know how old he is, I'm figuring 4-5 years old. He was found by my sister on the street all matted and with a few other ailments. She took him to her get (we live in different states, and I didn't have any pets, so no vet either) we believe, after my sister did some local research by where she found him, that he came from a puppy mill. he was an intact male, previous broken leg, tumor on head, and matted to the ground, he did not have an easy life. I've never had a dog that wasn't greatly affectionate, but I do now 😉, but I would like to take as good care as I can of him, he deserves it. I am on a small fixed income, so anyplace I can get information on how to help him without taking half of my monthly income to take him to the vet, is GREATLY appreciated!! Thank you very much. I'm up and doing that tea thing in one minute, I've already shaved the area this morning when I first saw something was wrong, and I was treating it with a topical ointment (Nyistatin) but my sister told me not to use that bc that's for a fungal infection and it's not supposed to be used on an open wound, I did not know. So all day I've just been washing the spot with warm water and mild hand soap and drying it well. Now I'm going to do the tea and aspirin thing, thank you very much. God Bless you.

Thank you! I’m excited to learn about this remedy! We suspect our dogs hot spot may have been from using carpet deodorizer. If he had an allergy to the fragrance and then it caused itchiness and licking front leg creating a hot spot. Now we know how to treat and possibly what to avoid. We used “Pet Fresh carpet odor eliminator” Arm and Hammer with oxyclean. Interestingly enough, the ingredients calls out “contains fragrance allergens” 😲 We learn something new every day. Best to stick with plain baking soda if using anything, I think. Thanks again for the wonderful video!!!

Dr. Jones, again THANK YOU so much. I watched your video on hotspots yesterday, made the tea and aspirin, and did exactly as you said. I'm going to try to show you the before and after pictures, just in a 24 hour period, I can hardly believe it, and honestly if I hadn't done this myself and he wasn't my dog, to be perfectly honest, I'm sure I wouldn't believe it, but it is absolutely 100% TRUE.
@debbieedwards5093
@debbieedwards5093 5 лет назад
Aka Jordan completely! 100%! Honestly, I didn't think it would because it just seemed too simple, but, I figured it was all natural and I didn't have anything to lose so I would try it. My pup is a rescued Maltese, approximately five years old, so I wasn't really familiar with him and I couldn't understand why he kept licking himself to the point of opening gross sores, hotspots, and I was getting upset. When I made the tea, I applied it several times a day, probably about ten times a day. I cut the hair around the moist, oozing, greenish pus filled wound ( it was gross!) then I just used folded paper towels, dip it in the tea mixture, and then dotted it on the wound. I used a clean paper towel each time. In less than a 24 hour period that sore was no longer pus filled, and it turned a very light pink, and within three days it was completely healed. I have no reason to lie, I do not know this doctor, although I'll be forever grateful to him, I was and still am so amazed by this I wanted to share it with anyone and everyone. I tried to load before and after pictures on my comments, but could never figure out how to do it. I did however do the photos on my Facebook for my friends to see, so if you want to find my Facebook and look for yourself you're welcome to do that. THIS REALLY WORKS!!!

Since we are in Asia, we find it diffcult to understand the accent, so appreciate any writeups displayed on the screen when mentioning names of ingredients, quantities etc. For example, I couldn't understand how many asprins should be diluted in the tea, nor the way to make the solution... a writeup on the screen will help us visually, if in case the audio would not be clear. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise with us. I love my Yorkshire terrier rescue lily so much, she is my absolute joy since my husband passed and my children are grown with family of their own and live a long way away from me now. I have a limited income and in the past I've had £10 left to last me 2 weeks after paying for vet treatment, medication, lily's food and spot on, wormer because she is my responsibility and obviously her needs come before mine if she needs the vet. What I've seen here is going to be such a financial help as lily has is suffering from hotspots as she is very allergic. Lily was a puppy farm breeding bitch who had a terrible life and I just want her to know that she is safe and loved and appreciated. She does so much more for me than I could ever repay but if we can save financially we can afford more lily toys and mum will be less worried and of course the main thing here lily will be able to get the right treatment immediately if the tricky hotspots come back. No waiting for an appointment or money going in the bank. Thanks again. I'm sure lily would thank you too if she understood lol.

Thank you. I'm going to start my 13 month old shih tzu on this regiment. I wish you were closer to me to be our vet since this shih tzu has some major neurologic issues. The vets want him to have MRI/CSF test at a cost of close to $3,000 not to mention the lost wages my husband and I would incur and the travel expenses as any place that does this is over 3 hours away. Vet thinks he has a brain lesion. I think it's from falling and hitting his head...they dismissed this but they weren't there to see how he fell backwards off a bed that sits 3 feet high and which I need a step stool to get into.

Can I point something out here, which is very important? I had Samoyed and Huskies, and did fostering and rescue for BOTH. Hot spots on long haired dogs are OFTEN because a TINY amount of soap was left behind in their last bath. You have to be very careful to remove ALL soap from their coat. What I used to do is wash my dogs, rise them, and then empty the tub, and refill it and rinse them again. You can tell if you left soap behind, because if you add water, it will suds when you rub it.

My dog had a hotspot all over his belly and us being first time dog owners thought it’d go by itself, but we still went to the vet. Oh and i live in a remote part of Northern India, the vets aren’t that great and knowledgeable. Vet did every kind of treatment from the 6-7 doses of injections to that big tablet thingy. Its been 8 months and the hotspot has spread all across his body. We’ve tried everything we know. Since i just saw this video, im gonna try this too. What kinda tea should i use? Does the skin's color change when that happens? I used a cortizone spray to ease her pain b4 started clipping in order to clean with the blk tea mixture...I padded it dry afterwards...we haven't been keeping it dry...it might have gotten worse becuz of that! I love that I've come across this! My baby Nala has developed a horrible hotspot on both sides of her rear and her tail. I'm going to rush to the store tomorrow and grab aspirin and tea so my baby girl can heal! I'm very confident based off the comments. I wish I could attach pictures 😓 I'll be back for an update!

@@tinyy5214 yes! It worked! I used some black tea and just some regular aspirin. I also bathed her with this hotspot relief shampoo from Walmart twice in a week, and followed with some chlorhexidine to help clean. I had to keep a cone on her the entire time though or else she would've have just licked all the product off. But it definitely worked. She's growing her hair back now! Soooooo I DEFINITELY recommend this method. Plus it will save you some money. Stay consistent with the cleaning as well. That's very important.

Well my friends dog has a much bigger area on his lower back and he tends to scratch everywhere too. So would that be safe to do larger areas? The vet only gives an allergy shot which doesnt help and says no more about it and offers no help . So I'm on the hunt for something to help the dog.

Thank You Dr. Andrew! My dog had a hotspot last year. It was about an American quarter size scab that had already detached itself from the skin, and just hanging by a few hairs. I didn't know there was anything there until I felt this hard clump. I took it off. Cleaned it with coconut oil. Then I started treating it with a combination of coconut oil, black seed oil, and a little bit of Virgin Olive Oil as a carrier. The reason I added the black seed oil was because it promotes hair growth. And I had to keep it lubricated with this, because as it was drying out it kept itching her. I have to say the black seed oil made her hair grow back phenomenally fast. If it didn't cost so much I think I would douse my head with it. LOL..Blessing's💝

I would think black seed oil might burn for a raw hot spot even with the carrier oil...what ratio did you use?

Cool beats having to use the Silver Sulfadiazine cream that the vet sometimes will recommend. Since we are on the subject of bacteria infectictons my 8 year old Daschund has Pyraderma on his skin and I was wondering if there is any naturally remedies that you know that can kill the infection or do I need to turn to an antibiotic treatment?
@VeterinarySecrets

Pyoderma is more difficult to treat naturally - most still need antibiotics

Hi Dr. Jones! What a coincident. My Labrador has hot spots on her lower belly region. It's been very hot and sometimes humid here in Southern California, and I think it's causing hot spots. I used to used GENTACALM from my vet but it's very expensive! I pay about $25 USD for a 6 oz bottle which doesn't last very long. I don't drink black tea but will green tea work too? Thanks for the video! Please keep them coming.

My dog has something like hotspot on one of his paws. After seeing vet buddy has been taking medicines (cephalexin tabs, Itrazole caps, Prednisone tabs), but the inflammation gets worse, symptoms are more redness, more swelling and now starts bleeding. Wondering if wrong medication was given
