I have a 1996 BMW e36 328is (2.8L inline 6) and while it's not as fast as the m3, the price barrier to entry for it is miles better than the m3. I bought it second-hand from another drifter with SLR angle, welded diff, BC coils, hydro, plus seats, bar and harness for 6500. The price of a relatively clean e36 m3 would have cost me triple that and i'm realistically only down maybe 40 to 50 hp. When i feel like i'm ready to really dig into it then there's tons of options for s52b28 (e36 m3 motor) or LS swaps available, or you can even rebuild the m52b28 with forged internals and go stustustustu if you're into that. the E36 is a hell of a car.
Really any American v8 from early 90s-2010 and their v6 variant work really well. Everyone just wants to clout chase and build the hero/legend JDM cars. Don't get me wrong, I'd love love love to have a FD3S, 240/S14/S15, or JZX100 but the wallet says otherwise. Drifting is one of the last low bar to entry sport car events that are more about skill versus how deep your pockets run. Some cars and setups do make it easier but end of the day, drivers with more seat time and focused practice tend to do well in just about any car you put them in.
I agree! The only awkward part about drifting is the guys that start with power can only drift with power. Throw them in something low hp and they are dog water haha. Most American cars do the thing great though!
Picked up a 98 mustang gt to turn into a drift car, and damn is that 4.6 just way too much going on for the low power it makes, sadly mine is a very so now it needs a cage which costs more than I paid for the car😂 we'll see how it goes I suppose
I got an E46/5 for 1500 euro. That's the Compact model, and this one has a 2 liter 4-cyl. It's maybe a little bit heavy compared to an E36 Compact, and of course doesn't have much power. But the price is excellent for a rust free car with good condition everything. Handling great. Just build more speed and it'll go sideways. 6-cyl or forced induction upgrades are always on the table. Cheap supercharger actually looks like a fun option for 4-cyl BMW.
I just picked up a new edge mustang for 2k that was v6 but the previous owner had a built gt that he crashed and swapped his built 2v in I need to fix a gasket somewhere cause i broke it but ive had alot of fun I still wanna do what poe boys did and cut up the suspension to be like the angle kit chrisfix got and learn how to drift
@@pop_pops_garage huge engine bay. So any engine can fit. Decent aftermarket support. Shit angle from factory but some re drilled knuckles solves that enough to slide it. I have a LS swapped one and it’s a riot to drive.
@@Tailored_Creations nice man! i dont have any friends that mess with them so they aren't really on my radar. i know people either love or hate the 7mgte though haha
