Been growing DWC for over 25 years and back in the day there was nothing as informative as your video on that method. I had to learn the hard way back then. Today I'm all dialed in and will never go back to soil. Nice Channel. Subscribed.
Yes, me too. Once you've seen a DWC really light up and take off it's magical. Extraordinary growth, when done right. I've compared my grow to dirt grower buddies and always come out the winner, in terms of returned weight and quality. It certainly can be tricky. One of the lessons I've learned over the years is when to abandon the failing crop and start over. This after many attempts to recover a losing battle with whatever pest has taken hold of the crop, sometimes recovery leaves one with the vague feeling that you've lost some of your crop but you never will know quite how much. Depending on how far into the grow...sometimes it's best to clean the room and start over. It must be said that any pests or other problems that I've encountered, when growing DWC have almost certainly been introduced by me. (Accept for when the power went out for 3 days, that wasn't me) When the system is banging you can gain 3-4 weeks on a conventional dirt grow!
I suggest buying black buckets , paint or cover with white paper. Black attracts heat from lights. Then cover top with aluminum foil, wrap around stem. Great light blocker. And you can wrap it around your head and poke holes for your eyes & mouth when working under those lights. protect your skin. And make foil hats to shield the white alien brain chiggers. Also, coil up a 1/2 " copper tubing wire tie it by AC unit vent, run white RV Hose from a small pump in the resivour to coil & back. Use the duck head thermometer floating in the resivour .
Been growing in peat/vermiculite @50/50 and add in gypsum and Dolomite lime. I run 20-10-20 peters nutrients with cal mag @ 1.3 EC. This is my first delve into DWC and I’m loving how informative you are about it. From my research I was close, but ordered that bigger pump the second you said too and canceled my active aqua that was coming tomorrow. 😅 I just found your channel and enjoyed this content and plan to check out more of you stuff. I always find learning in even seeing what other people do, always a gap that is filled and a spark in my mind where more makes sense on different issues everyday. May your clouds always be thick and your buds dense. Much love
I finally have a hobby where my biochemistry/biology degree comes in handy 😭. I love hearing stoners explain the shit I had to learn from old people and books. Legitimately more digestible usually
10 years here and still learning. Love your rant on the brown slime. I fight septoria and local blight in MA outdoor. About to do my first DWC crop thanks for the class❤
This video was honestly interesting and not boring like other videos-I watched the whole thing and I learn quite a bit from this appreciate you bro GOT A NEW SUB
another top vid my friend, 1st time dwc grower here an your clips have helped me alot, currently in wk3 flower and all going stong, and alot of tips from you me friend, so thanks and love the live shows
Great video. I appreciate hearing your story. I've had some of the same issues. My first 3 plants all had root rot. So I did a deep dive looking for solutions. This time, in addition to all the things you mention (air, temp, cleanliness, etc) I treated the roots with hydrogen peroxide before I added them to the system. (I also sterilized the grow tubs) Fingers crossed! Thanks for the vid!
Self reference: Pump is 290 GPH 1/4 of air per water 12 gallons water (in 3 buckets) He had 4 buckets 4 gallons in each. 16gallons total. Pump is 3.75 GPM .25 under amount needed. GPH 16*60= 960/4 225gph needs 240gph would be enough, more is better.
So 1/4 of 12, you would need something pumping out roughly 240gallons per hour for that setup, if temps are higher, I would got with a more powerful pump to make up for the temps
I messed around in a few gardens, trimmed a few trees, and thought I knew it all. Then I started my own plants and got humbled. Turns out I barely know the basics. Reddit and YT videos like yours are the only thing keeping my plants alive. I just had to save them from drowning cause I didn't know you weren't supposed to submerge your netpot in water. Your content is great for beginner/intermediate growers. Quality info without the brain overload.
I'm watching your videos thinking dwc would be easier. I've helped friends with grows, and soil seems like a pain in the ass compared to hydro. Building soils, letting things cook, and dealing with fungus and bugs kinda sucks. Plus in the end they all end up using liquid nuits on top of the soil to deal with issue and try and bulk buds. Keeping water clean sounds easier, and it looks like you can be more accurate with feeding plants and controlling how the nutrients are absorbed.
got a free 4 5gal bucket root spa DWC system growth was good in the beginning, but then started to see stunting and the starts of root rot. did 3% Hydrogen Peroxide at 2.5ml/Gal from reading online. temps have been stable between 67-72 PH would rise from 5.6/5.8 - 6.2. I'm pretty sure my problem is the kits air pump is just not enough sucks they don't include a proper pump for this style of growing. It would cause less stress. Appreciate your channel and information. We will get through this grow💪!
yeah just a quick one about water levels, well as plant drinking more now water, decided to higher my water level, on res change, came back an hour later, and they was all drooping, but I freaked and just switch them back, but yeah think it was because of the increase in water, so will go back to how things was, but yeah you have to have it dialed in, and if not she soon tells, and you have to catch it early, good job Im about to do that,,but learning so much as a newbie 1st time grower, and yeah getting to grips with it now, and we going strong atm, so good luck and keep up the great things you do, your teaching us guys so much
Awesome stuff. Great way to help new growers. Love the attitude you find with most people involved in the cannabis industry. You see people handing out dabs at 420 festivals. Who gives out free product now days? LOL
Bought hydro buckets the have a side compartment with a flaps make changing the water and checking pH a breeze and has holes at the top for plant training well worth the money ..worth checking out
I'm happy you did this vid. But I can't afford to lose another summer crop. Switching between dwc and soil is such a bummer and takes forever. Soo. Soil for me but you got this. Great video.
I would recommend if getting one of these kits. I'd buy a different air stone or air disc. A better pump is better but the air disc is the budget option.
Thank you for your information. Just bought a deep water system yesterday had too much water in the bucket growing it technically in soil, but using the deep water to feed plant has amazing new life overnight. Going to get some root rot medicine for it today just to make sure.
its true it was scarey at the start but I made sure i did my research again an again, and it was all the data collection and being hands on thats got me to go DWC, and so far its great, and like you said info an help is out there just dont panic and do your research, Ive picked up so much in such a small time, its been great being able to track my plant what she eats how much she drinks, etc then i go off my data and its doing me well so far, no excess of defic, as only feeding abit more then she takes, but keeping a range in mind and slightly increasing wkly, and doing this Ive had no issues, and being going off lucas formula, keeping it simple till i learn the ropes, just 1 plant, but next run already in the planning lol to expand,
Root rot, algae and I've had my plants just wilt overnight which looks like verticillium fungus. I learned to clean and change to pot right away. I admittedly never clean my pots when growing until the end. I just add more nutes and hope for the best because I'm a new grower but I will start cleaning bi weekly now that I'm on my 4th grow and tired of losing random plants. I just lost a Gookies plant that was looking great
Good evening just bought my first dwc system from Mars Hydro I’ve mostly grown passive hydro(Hempy buckets). My question is the pump that comes with the system says 8w 4*63.4 is this sufficient for 2 5 gallon buckets? Or should I get a better one? Trying to be prepared and do it the right way out of the gate. It’s a 2 bucket system. Thanks in advance very educational video.
Tried my first DWC and was not good then watched your vid and said its water level so i dropped it a inch and wow plants do grow crazy fast otherwise its pretty simple to grow in dwc im do 1 organic and 1 dwc see what i like better and so far dwc is simple to do
I have 4 black 4 gallon or 3 gallon buckets . I don't have any problem with growing. It's the amount of water the plants drink. During the end of vegetation and all through flowering , the plants drink half a bucket almost in one day. I have to refill the buckets every two days. My other question is that since their is only a little water left inside the bucket before refilling, should I get that little bit of water out or not worry about it and keep refilling back up. Also, do I add more nutrients to the new water? Any ideas as to why they drink Soo much water? I mean, they were big plants but I wanted my setup to be where I can just check it once a week and leave it alone but I guess that's not going to happen.
I've been skimping out on changing out my reservoir, had a lot of issues early on with overfeeding/forgot to add cal-mag to my ro water. I'm a week away from going into flower and I'm buying another bucket right now lol, I think it helps explain the small issues that are appearing now that are different than the calcium deficiency I've been seeing. I've been using Fox Farm's sledgehammer to help break all that stuff down, but I think I really need to change the reservoir completely, next grow I plan on going 100% botanicare nutes.
My biggest question is, I know you said two inches from the pot, but what about when roots haven’t developed to that point yet? I plan to start in rockwool because I always do whether seed or clone and I usually go into my soilless medium when the rock wool shows signs that my girls are drinking more. What level do I put that water at when I get them into the stage where I’m moving my rockwool into my clay in the baskets? Sorry for the weird long question. And thanks in advance
Been growing fir abt 20 years with hps cmh etc last year I bought the se5000 and since then it’s been a swap over completely to leds as quickly as money permits!!!
Want to try my first dwc plant)Used to do coco only, thanks for video and information ❤respect but only little bit confused with them pump liters per minute)Maybe you can help me !I want to run 33l pot so what pump i need for it?cheers bro
Well if you have lots of healthy mushroom /mycelium it will allow much more oxygen supplied to the plants. The temperature affects how much oxygen is in the water as well so it helps to stay cool.
Appreciate the help I’m going into dwc and I’m glad I saw this cause I would have ran the regular pump😂now I know to get a better pump. My question is when you do water changes how do you factor in how much nutes put in? What nutes would you recommend to start out with?
I always thought the bubbles were to prevent obligate anaerobic fungi from building up, and not to introduce Oxygen for the plant specifically. Maybe the breaking of the surface tension could provide a somewhat constant Oxygen/CO2/Carbonic acid solution proportions
Best advice i can give you is switch from dwc to ebb and flow and invest in a good water chiller for either or i had to build mine that alone eliminates the root rot and slime
How can I make my roots from not growing around my air stone and pump? My roots literally take up my whole bucket. My last three weeks of growing is struggling bc my air stones aren’t working anymore. Thank you for the help. Using dwc.
What happened to ebb and flow? Way more air. Stupid simple without all the rot problems. It was the only way to do hydroponics back in the 80’s. I don’t understand why it fell out of favor.
I use multiple pumps and ones that push a lot of air. Every bucket has one airline from one pump and another airline from a completely different pump just in case one kicks it. I found one air stone is not enough nutrients settle and the pH swings out of range wildly within a few days, two pumps and the proper amount of air and you don't have to worry about that
You can go colder than 65 in ebb and flow i got my home built system down to 2 1/2 gallons of water for 6 plants I’m building one now for 8 plants its less water to deal with than dwc but you still get all the benefits of dwc growth rates without all the hassles
got 17 beans going .. 2 hydro n there dying n one clone is thriving .. changed the water phed it proxcide for a bit all types of stuff n I civered the lids no light leak only thing I can think is my one bucket Is white n the others are black n the temp if 81.8 is making water too hot ...
Hey Dusa, I was having problems when running dwc years ago but want to try it again. My veg plants would look great and grow great throughout. But as soon as I switched to my flower cycle sky plants would basically die within a week and the ph was dropping so fast.. my root system looked great not really brown or anything but my plants would turn really yellow and die. To you have any tips for this? I don’t really recall my water temp but I don’t remember the exact temp. Thanks for any help as I try this again cause I think dwc produces the best equality.
Sounds like the water was unstable for the plants to feed properly. Do you remember what your PPM was? Because they plants just may have not been able to consume it and only water so that would cause the PH to drop which would result in the plants being out of range to uptake any nutrients which led to them yellow and dying off. If you have Instagram feel free to message me on there. Would love to help you figure this out
Enjoy your video's very informative. Ok this is my first grow and I decided to go DWC everything has been a challenge but I've made it to pre flower. All of a sudden my leaves started dropping and turning a yellowish color. Changed water nutrients still dropping. Any suggestions
Do you have a way of contact I seem to be doing everything right from what u say but my cuttlings after germinating the small leaves look sad and droopy any idea why there not even 2 weeks from germinating them
TY😊 thanks for breaking the basics down. just starting out with heyabby420. I'm also a soil grow fail 😂. My next challenge is lst according to app should do lst in a few days... any advise? Thanks
Idk if you have used Advanced Nutrients . I’ve used it since 2018 and never had an over feeding , pph, or under feeding issue it even will ph your water depending on off the water is before any nutrients are added.
@@DusaFarms cool bro , I’ll stay tuned to see the Athena’s line and how it works out. Can you please cover the mixing ratios for it? Advanced Nutrients is dummy proof not calling anyone a dummy but it’s hard to mess up the ratio’s
It’s totally normal for Ph fluctuations in DWC. I stopped adjusting my PH. I also did a video on this as well ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--9UZXzISEOY.html
I need some help do nutrients go bad when they sit around sub strate is what I’m using also can a 5 gallon net pot be the cause of slow growth being as it’s fighting the hydro ball’s to get into the pot I’m 3 weeks in and just feel like something is off
I like the video. Maybe you can help me as I go along. I am having trouble with my dwc system but I know with a little help I will get my stuff together. I am not sure how to navigate with contact to you. But I will try.
