Today, we're retrofitting E38 illuminated door handles into my E39 M5 Wagon! I've been holding on to these for a while, and finally had the chance to install them, so I'm here sharing all the tips and tricks so you can do this at home yourself! Plenty of extra information down below with links and part numbers. Enjoy!
If you have a facelift (2001+) E39 you'll need front cables:
51 21 8 215 617 (Left)
51 21 8 215 618 (Right)
Remember to look for the grey with red striped wire, and match it to the same wire on the led of the handle itself. Ryan has a nice tutorial which is helpful to watch as well, in case I missed anything:
