I don't know how accurate this is, but what I heard is that the Endeavor will not launch until the game actually releases. So, yeah, probably another 10 years or so lol.
All these ships can be earned in-game, honestly it’s a great way to save money! And atm I mostly explore points of interest and other areas, but I’m awaiting more meaningful gameplay loops for exploration as well!
Great video! Was gonna say there's a lot of dedicated exploration ships that didn't make the list, but then realise it all needs to be under $400. That being said, I'd personally add the drake corsair, 400i and freelancer DUR.
I think they aren't on the list because there seems to also be a hidden requirement of being over $300. I think this is because Vici wants to avoid repeating ships found in his exploration ships under $100, $200, and $300 videos
I will sometimes add in ships that are from prior lists (the Taurus in particular comes to mind!) but I find the offerings herein have either more utility, survivability, or other offerings that leverage them higher!
As a cat owner, it seems to me that with the snub being able to dock with the Connie's, it should be simple to have that same type of docking for the command module to detach and reattach. Then I could leave the ship in orbit and fly down for bunkers
Yea I'm really looking forward to the Caterpillar having this feature! I imagine they haven't even done the animation workup, but hoping we see this sooner than later!
Huh "Underslung Cargo Ramp"? The Galaxy doesn't have a ramp. Only the Cargo and Medical Module have a lift, the Refinery only has access ports for the saddle bags.
You mention Aquila and Endeavor, with all the gear they have or can be equipped with, easy to see them as explorers. Redeemer is an Explorer? You mention Aquila's advanced sensors, I would think the lack of those on Redeemer would be a clue as to their 'exploration' capability. Redeemer has a big Radar, ok, what kind of exploration will that afford? In fairness to Cat and Galaxy, we really do not know what modules are coming out. Hard to imagine an 'Exploration' module early on as it would needlessly compete economically against Aquila and Carrack. CIG would be reducing $$$ intake with that move.
I think you bring up some excellent considerations, especially in respect to the radars; I suspect we'll see some further differentiation in the future, but just have size classes atm! But I feel the Redeemer has so much range and punching power, that it could be an excellent platform for high value artifact acquisition; especially in dangerous space!
@@ViciDeum So basically it’s a well armed blocked runner / courier. That I can definitely understand. Redeemer boldly going where none have gone before? That’s a lot harder to see or support.
I'm curious to know what ship would take its place on this list if you removed the Endeavor because it's bound to increase in price by a lot and I suspect up to about $750 which would put it well above the $400 cap for this list.
The proper buyer guide is no need to buy ships at this time due to the game is NOT completed, purchasing ship packs is supporting, not buying. any features in ships might be changed in the future.
The Endeavor is so far out it's hard to take this list seriously unfortunately. The biggest issue currently that is in the way of true exploration isn't even ship related but outfit related. Currently we have no way to lay out markers and we don't even have a compass on our MOBI or on ground vehicles. CIG has to take that part seriously. Also, they need to make sure that the 1,2 and even larger SCU containers that can be used to store items... can snap to grid. Once they do that, my pick of the best current exploration ship may surprise you. It's the Argo Raft. If they make the 32SCU cargo containers able to be accessed as inventory boxes... the versatility of that will make it unmatched as an expedition ship. Hell.. I'd want one of those in the bay of my Endeavor if it would fit.
The Argo Raft is definitely an interesting choice, but I see your points! And yes, unfortunately the Endeavor is very far out, but I still include concepts in these lists as the ships are going to be added eventually; although I'm absolutely looking for more exploration gameplay improvements like a compass and other markers!
@@ViciDeum Oh.. I get you. So much so that I pledged one even though it will likely be at least a couple years before I see it. But who knows. The development pace seems to be stepping up. With ship components coming online as removable and intractable plugins, we may see the factory variant of the Endevor soon. There are a few things they could do to hasten things along that no one would complain about. One of those things being to just make the front end of the Endevor actually BE the Odyssey. Anyway. I'm looking forward to actually having the ability to go out and not have to come back. Relying instead on minables and harvistables to actually make the components of the ships.
Redeemer is probably the one exploration ship that works well if there is no need for a ground vehicle. It's the best armed and shielded ship in its size and can maul most other ships to death with all the guns.
The Redeemer has virtually no cargo that and in by itself is enough reason for me to not consider it as an exploration ship. Probably couldn't see past the guns and shields LOL. It makes me wonder why was the mercury star runner not on this list that ship is better for the exploration ship then the Redeemer. Yeah she may not be nowhere near as good as the Redeemer in combat but due to her speed she rarely ever has to fight if she chooses not to. Not to mention her cargo hold is decent size she has a scanning room with an oversized radar dish which will come in handy for exploration
@@kennethshores8547 I suspect at default that scanner will be for picking up data signals and not be good for exploration. We might be able to swap it for an exploration type scanner though but who knows. I don't think the MSR was included on this list even though it probably would be better than the Redeemer because it is $260 and this video seems to be looking at ships $300-$400 even though it says under $400.
What’s the point in exploring if there’s no reward. And everywhere is already labeled. They need to have 60+ systems and Stanton only be the starter location. Planets that don’t have a jump point and so on. Gotta drift there with the crew to make a jump point. But that’ll turn to idle gameplay 😂
The game is definitely missing some meaningful exploration gameplay, but there are plenty of unlabeled places/points of interest to explore right now; the Microtech winter village, crashed satellite, benny hedge, etc!
No Liberator? The ship-carrying platform that also has 400 SCU cargo space? You can put a C8R Pisces on it for sustain, a light/medium fighter for defense, a small pathfinder like 315P, C8X Explorer or Terrapin for chartering, and multiple ground vehicles for planet-side deployment?
The Liberator is an awesome ship, but too expensive for this list! Unfortunately it lost out on the more expensive tier due to the competitiveness of those offerings!

I disagree completely, and don’t see you mentioning any specific gameplay that the Redeemer couldn’t cover. While certain ships have certain advantages, there are no prohibitions on using a ship outside its niche, except in the case of mining or salvage. You should spend more time playing the game and less time projecting your vision for release onto others!
Exploration is definitely possible in-game right now, by checking points of interest and other areas. Although I suspect more meaningful loops won't be for another 2-3 years, and we'll need to await Pyro!

The only price required to play is $45 for the basic starter pack. Most other ships flyable in game are earnable in game. The ones that are recently made flyable are generally kept exclusive for people who pledged for them until the next major patch. Then you can buy them in game.
@@christopherarnold352 The only real advantage in that is skipping some grind and getting to fly it first when it becomes flyable before it becomes available for in game purchase
@@N0V-A42 so better ships wouldn’t help with battles and/or tracking others down? The ships don’t come with more than just ship, maybe equipment for your character? In a game which has pvp, it is an advantage to those that spend more. In other words pay to win.
@Christopher Arnold Of course better ships help but player skill is a huge factor. Pledging for a ship just includes the ship. It's not pay to win if someone who doesn't pay as much has access to what a player who pays more does.
Still broke but buy a ship anyway. The whole exploration thing is not even a working game loop for now. And might not ever be if they continue to release patches as bad as the last one. By the way, how's those two upcoming complete wipes gonna make people want to stay that are new. I am new. If this is what I have to look forward to then I do not see the point of paying for things that do not work. Game loops that are not there. And being nothing better than an Alpha tester. Not on the payroll, but a paying player. Nah. Not gonna spend another dime on it.
The game is a long time in development, but I love it every time I jump in! I highly recommend starting with a free fly or just the cheapest starter ship!
