The best time to visit a market town is market day! Because Stroud is said to have the “best Farmer’s Market in the Cotswolds” we had to pay a visit and see for ourselves! The market was fabulous, and there is loads of other good shopping in Stroud. But best of all was the CHEESE! Watch for extremely delicious cheesiness as I show a luscious savoury crepe and some tasty raclette being made!

I know it's one year later, but I'm SO GLAD you discovered the Stroud Market, and the raclette. As a confirmed carnivore, I can testify that the sausage stall sells some of the very best tasting sausage in the UK. But one has to get there early. The specialist mushroom stall is also fab and so is the Stroud Smokery stall, where you can get interesting things like smoked pineapple chunks and smoked harissa and other unusual things. In the spring we got some wild garlic pesto and wild garlic infused sauerkraut. The market actually runs on Fridays and Saturdays, one needs to get there early for the most in demand items, like the mushrooms.

I used to like them, but was finding that (in my area anyways) it was a case of 'when is a farmers market, not a farmers market' Seeing one advertised, whizzing down there, only to find it'd be 80+% craft stalls, candles, doilies, and bric-a-brac. The 'farmers' in the title implies food, and that was becoming increasingly not the case. I tend to skip them now, not that i've seen one in a while. I favour food festivals nowadays... Wall to wall food, now that's more like it :)
@MagentaOtterTravels
@MagentaOtterTravels Год назад
I agree on the festivals... I LOVE food festivals! Did you see the livestream I did of the one in Cheltenham? SO FUN! But yes, lots of markets are pretty lame. It is best to make the effort when you know its a really good one like Stroud. Also, the town centre of Stroud has lots of wonderful food shops in addition to the market, so it is definitely worth the trip, IMO. Cheers for the comment, John! Dara

Ooh I love a good farmers market and this one looked like a beauty. Unfortunately they're often too early in the morning for me. 😂 The set honey is what we call candied honey. And I love it. The honey there looked delish. I love how local flora effects the flavour and colour. Here, my favourite is Yellow Box (a type of gum tree). 🦘 Yeah, they were crepes. Even done in the French style. I love a good crepe like that. When we go through France I always stop for a crepe son beurre et sucre. 😋🥞 Coincidentally I'm making pancakes for my son in between watching and typing this. Proper pancakes with maple syrup and butter. Just as Canada intended. Except I'm using 50-50 wheat flour and sorghum flour so they come out tinged pink. 😂🥞 And those cheeses looked sensational! 🧀🧀🧀 Lovely vlog Dara!

That is a very interesting point to ponder! I'm assuming that small scale organic farming is more expensive than the giant mass produced farming that feeds the supermarkets.
