Secondly, the gloves used in boxing are more to protect the hands than the body, in fact gloves hands cause more brain damage than bare hands, bare hands cause more superficial damage like cuts. The gloves are more dangerous because of the added weight.

Deaths become more prominent in boxing AFTER the introduction of gloves. Most bare knuckle boxing matches would consist of blows to the body as the forehead is very hard. Gloves allowed people to target the head more often and more aggressively... a lot of this can be taken with a pinch of salt cos training techniques, punching techniques and change in diet (not just when training but from birth) mean fighters are not only physically stronger but they are technically superior as well. Maybe that is why these practically head hunted eachother for the entire fight or possibly because a round wouldn't end til there was a knock down and im not sure if they even had a count back then but fights could last dozens of rounds. TL:DR; i forgot my point. Fight gave ME brain damage!
