Would it be better to cut the fly line at a sharp angle and lay it on itself in order for it to be smooth like a welded loop but add the hollow core braid on it before you put 4-5 nail knot in order to make it less likely to catch in the guides as it goes in and out? What are your thoughts?
Good advice and one thing that I would suggest is; practice, practice and practice tying the Bimini and the loop knots, until you can do it with your eyes closed. If you don't have 100% total confidence in a knot that you've just tied, don't fish with it. Cut it off and start again. That curly 'pig tail' that's left in your line when a knot fails is something that you never want to see.
