Almost 40 years ago, l and friends l was travelling with, were at a disco in, l think, Andalusia and the DJ put on a flamenco record. Every single person on the floor (apart from us) instantly stamped their foot and put their arms in the air. Although there were some families and some children most of the people were in their 20s, like us, and we thought they were having a laugh but, every single person danced flamenco until the song ended. It was the most amazing sight and l've never forgotten it.
this is true only to a certain extent when speed is not yet compromised. These ladies are of a "certain age", but not old. Flamenco does require physical prowess besides a super-human sense of rhythm. It is not for everyone unless you want get looks of pity
anybody who thinks this is poorly done has no idea what they're talking about. Flamenco is HARD. You are learning multitasking in the extreme, all while keeping rhythm and playing an instrument (with your feet). Unless you are a dancer you should probably shut your mouth and walk a mile in their shoes (literally) before you even think about commenting on this beautiful dancing.
dude i know right?? this isn't some drills on a guitar to build speed and shit. this is technicality on another level man and it's soooo hard! but its so fuckin cool and worth it if you learn it!
Lived in Andalucia for a few years in the early 2000’s. Never forgot how beautiful it was there. The people, culture, dancing, food, sherry and landscape. Just gorgeous.
yes, anyone who really knows Flamenco and been around the culture knows there is not really a right or wrong way to dance Flamenco, the most important aspect of the dance and music is feeling the compas (rhtthm) and expressing your own unique style. Some are more expressive, or more emotional than others at the time, just depends on how they are feeling that night. The dance is about expressing emotions while you mark the time in the music.
Well, as someone who Did try to learn Flamenco, I think you have confirmed the fact that this is not very good. There were better people in my beginners class. Some of whom went on to become teachers and performers. In Spain. This is just another tourist rip off. The woman in black isn't too bad, but there is an awful lot of tap in there! The cream shoed women just basically stamp their feet! When she Did do a step I was thinking, 'Yeah ,that was the first one I was taught .Is that it? what happened to Brazeo? Hang onto your skirt instead! Also they don't work together. 'Best Flamenco I ever saw' should maybe read 'Only Flamenco I ever saw' Try this instead ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-snBp1UWUFek.html As you are such an afficianado I think you such spot the difference,.
Well then, if the dance is all about expression of feelings, I guess we can all as audience express our opinions as well. I enjoyed the video overall. My favorite dancers use correct form for starters. That starts with posture, brazeos, distinction of footwork, etc. For me, if form is not a factor, I don't care how care how many "feelings" are being expressed. It just looks like drama to me, and it's not that interesting.
In flamenco there is so much to pay attention to. The feet making such beautiful sounds, the hands grasping at the hem of the dress or swirling them like doves ready to fly, the twists and turns of the body that would put some contortionist to shame and the expressions of the face. And the cantores and guitarists. Pure art.
I've seen dancers from around the world dance flamenco but no dancer can innately evoke the artistry, attitude, spirit, fire and passion of the dance like the Spanish 🇪🇸 💃
I'm sitting here about to jump out of my chair..this is managing my soul with the rythm,I want to get up and flamenco! And I'm 60! I love it so much! SO beautiful and makes women even more passionate and beautiful!
Joy and tragedy, stillness and motion, grace and earthiness. Sensual and independent. There is no dance in the world that is so complex and beautiful between emotion and the body, as the dance that descends from Spanish tradition.
@@dollynina8992 Would it be fair to say it has been adopted as a Spanish tradition, rooted in Andalucia, from the Roma people, who originated in India and migrated to europe starting in the 8th century. I did not intend to cause any offence, and sincerely hope I didn't!
@@dollynina8992 But, it has influences from Roma, it isn’t a “Roma tradition”. It’s only a spanish one, which originated in the south of spain since the Roman empire, evolving and adding things from jewish, gipsy, arab and iberic (typical spanish) dancing. What i’m trying to say is, yes it has influence from Roma, but flamenco is only a spanish tradition that originated in spain as a mix from many countries, and those countries don’t share the same tradition. The fact that it has influence from Roma doesn’t mean it is a Roman typical dance.
@@luciavinuales3725 Of course, it has a whole mix of cultures and this specific dance style originated in Andalucía Spain. But a large amount of influence on the dance is primarily from the Romani gypsies because even Romani people in other places in Europe have a very similar dance style in terms of the rhythm, the clapping and stomping of feet in time to the beat.
Every time I see Spanish dances, it makes me sad for my lack of culture. This is so beautiful and spirited-- the music, the movement, the skill and expression
I've been learning flamenco (farruca) for 7 months now, and i still get amazed like the lady at 4:10 (lol) when i watch them dancers doing what they do.. But i can assure you that flamenco is a hard one. First you need to put a piece of your soul in it..
Read a few of these comments - I'm amazed at how many people make comments when they clearly know nothing about this traditional art form. Caterwauling? Go research the technicalities of flamenco cante - they sing in differently keyed tones to regular western singing. The person who states that after one class they did better is truly a genius and I'm wondering on which international stage we should be seeing them. The "flamenco for tourist" quote. - yes, and what if it is for tourists ? How else will people discover and share this?
The so-called critics are just uncultured and small minded. I'm of Indian descent and enjoy listening to flamenco music because to me it is very reminiscent of certain music from South Asia. I suppose since flamenco is partly derived from Spanish Romani culture (and Romani migrated from Northern India centuries ago), this familiarity makes sense. Whatever the subliminal reasons, my senses find it (and this performance) captivating. 🌹
Years ago I made a very deep friendship with a flamenco dancer who introduced this art into Japan. This was in Okinawa at the time. His name was Jose Miguel Aparifio...and he became quite famous in Japan for a time after that first stint of performances at a small club in Okinawa. Wonderful nights spent with Jose, his guitarist , and lovely lady. He was a magician! Performing twirls and leaps that seemed to defy gravity. And he was as regal and dignified offstage as he was while performing.....a real Gypsy King!
I studied this for a year and it was sooo sooo sooo difficult, can’t begin to describe how challenging - the teacher, trying to be kind, said « you know it’s interesting, it’s almost like you are doing a jazz interpretation of the dance - always a quarter note or so behind the beat » 😂😂😂 most flamenco dancers from Spain start extremely early like 3 years old and you understand why... tough to learn when it’s not in your blood! Also I have bad rhythm 😂. Also RIP to your knees.
😂I studied for a year....people have no idea how difficult flamenco is......my god. my god. my god....you need His help....too! my teacher was a Spanish jewish(Sephardi) woman.....
@@entropyshade2120 jajajaja owr oppressed people can dance, sing... live to conquer the future with theirs family. But your oppressed native americans... make fertile the land on they die, because people like you.
Don't knock these performers, They are good at what they are doing and more importantly, they are enjoying it. That's what it is all about. Flamenco is not at all easy, likewise playing the music.
In 1972 my roommate & I went to see ANTONIO GEDDES FLAMENCO 💃 DANCERS 👑. :-)
I am from New Mexico and grew up with this culture and music. I love to listen to it in the winter. It reminds me of home and all of our beautiful people and land.
Bravo to these Flamenco dancers!👍🏾👏🏾💃🏾💪🏾❤️🤗. One must have an extremely flexible and strong body! This dance is not for fainted heart!😱. I love it! In fact I am looking for a Spanish club in Houston that features Flamenco music and dance. Thanks for uploading ❤️👍🏾
These people are from india and their culture and music also.their influence isnt moorish.its been proven genetically they are indians that left india about 800 years ago.they have same beliefs, music and dancing styles also
@@eleni1968 You cannot steal or appropriate art unless you're talking about plagiarism. By it's nature, art transcends cultures and translates experiences across space and time. If art was the prize possession of one people it would never develop. The Romani gypsies did not exist in a vacuum. They picked up multiple influences from Andalusian culture that was already well established in the 15th century when they arrived. You could just as well argue they appropriated the surrounding Andalusian culture: the bullfight you see clearly in their posturing, Mozarabic chant, northern "Gallic" liturgies and the Jota to name but a few influences; none of which originate with them. Our world would be vacuous and miserable if people are not permitted to use or interpret each others' art forms (if it was even possible to establish whose was whose in the first place).
¡FLAMENCO es una historia con muchas historias y episodios! Es una danza de energía, amor, tristeza, pasión ... ¡las palabras complementan la danza y la guitarra le da un placer y ritmo especial al Flamenco!
The dancing & the playing is very well done. One doesn’t know how much work it takes to perform such outstanding performance unless you have done it yourself. I have been to Japan & seen their performance also l have met a flamenco guitarist. After that I bought an album & copied the music on cassette for keepsake.
Flamenco es duende ! If you don’t appreciate it, you haven’t got any soul... This is great , always imitated, but not equalled... I’m French but every time I try I know I’m missing something... Es en la sangre y no puiede imitât esto arte😀😎
Bravissime e bellissime what a performance WOW, such passion and sensuality. To me flamenco is a mix of Gipsy and Arabic cultures as you can clearly find in certain areas of Spain. I really enjoy it thanks!
I saw a show downtown Seville a few years ago. Just amazing. The show in Barcelona was good as well but we seated way behind as opposed butted up against the front of the stage in Seville. The dancers dress “tresses” came within a few inches of my wine glass. Not to mention the wood chips being kicked up from the stage. Nothing, in my opinion beats the gypsy flamenco for style, poise and passion.
Taking a dance class, the instructor stated- to take the floor as your space- and these dances perfectly, and skillfully did just that with beautiful expression.
They were all outstanding but the lady in red...she was feeling it so deeply...or, maybe I felt I could feel her saying things to me and it was so visceral she sent me somewhere. I can’t explain it.
