Omg thank you. It really is stressful! I've been stumped on how to prep for my guy. The biggest issue is the greens. How do we keep the greens fresh and have them not get all watery? I worry they go bad.... so basically, just throw everything in the freezer and thaw it out the night before?

My beardie has become the fussiest salad eater ever since he entered adulthood. Drives me nuts. I've tried so many different Veggies but nope he sticks his nose up and would rather starve himself for days on end 🤦🏼‍♀️

Do you cook the squash and sweet potato?
@rickeyweaver6298
@rickeyweaver6298 2 года назад
Lol no. Raw only. When you cook veggies it cooks alot of the nutrients that your dragon needs. If it's cooked it will become a calcium binder, not allowing them to absorb the calcium

Are carrot tops okay? I usually give my beardie broccoli, carrot, and every few weeks buy a squish for her The internet constently says different things, and ive constently stayed away from kale because of it I just looked up if they can eat carrot tops and it said carrot should only be a treat At this point I’m worried I’m not feeding my dragon anything they can have

Better leaves to feed would be arugula, collard greens and mustard greens.

I've tried meal preping and freezing small amounts in sandwich bags, but whenever I pull out of the freezer to defrost, the Veggies end up so soggy and gross. Any suggestions?

Hi! Do you blanche your veggies before you freeze them?
@kensleykeay2067
@kensleykeay2067 Год назад
@Nancy G Blanching is a process where you take your veggies and submerge them in hot boiling water for anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 minute (depending on the veggie), then immediately placing them in a bowl of ice water before freezing. It doesn’t cook the veggies but basically allows them to be frozen at peak freshness and will keep them from sogging while thawing.

Kale is NOT good for bearded dragons. Please do some more research. Very small amounts of kale maybe 2 times a week mixed with other GOOD staple greens like collards would be ok but why risk it when it's not necessary? Also, rosemary is great for beardies. Rosemary has a great calcium to phosphorus ratio. Planting fresh rosemary in their terrarium gives a nice enrichment for them while also giving them something healthy to forage for a snack

Kale isn't good because it's a calcium binder. Not nearly as bad as spinach though. If you use Kale, only use it in small amount maybe 2 times a week mixed with good staple greens like collards. A small amount mixed in with collards shouldn't hurt but why risk it? Lots of other great greens for them. I personally use collards as their staple greens. It's cheap and one of the best. I mix in others like mustard greens and turnip greens, small amounts, endive, assorted herbs that are good like parsley basil rosemary mint...so many great options
