I ran this in pancake mode and it worked exactly as advertised. I still have a lot of tweaking to do with it of course, but I'm definitely impressed. One thing that surprised me is that I didn't think I could live with going lower than 40-50 FPS, but it was surprisingly smooth even in the low 20s. Good job on the review.

re: " One thing that surprised me is that I didn't think I could live with going lower than 40-50 FPS,..." Same here. In my early testing I knew that I was breaking ground on a new way of looking at the sim and a whole new paradigm regarding performance ... or should I say "perceived performance". Recently, MSFS would report that it was delivering 65 FPS, but I hated the experience. The frames would "gallop"... I would get 20 or so frames in quick succession, then a micro-pause, then a few more frames... then a stutter, all happening within the same second. So yeah, just counting the raw numbers, I got 65 FPS. It says 65 FPS, but you still can't stand it. You know the drill. So we go on some witch hunt blaming who-knows-what for something we don't fully understand. I knew my brain preferred equally-spaced frames where each frame had the same amount of on-screen-time... but I never thought I would prefer 25-35 FPS over 65FPS just because of that. Seriously, who would, right? 60 or 70 FPS should be amazing. As you might imagine, the first time this happened, I was dumb-struck and had to double-check all my data 3 times. But ever since then, the focus of this app is to promote that experience. And not be just some "More FPS" type of thing. This is driven by the immersion - especially in VR. Thanks ArkansasBound for letting me hijack your comment! :) But I thought some might enjoy a bit of behind-the-scenes look at how this came about.

Cool stuff. Do you happen to know if this is also working with DCS?

Nice review. With all these new apps I'm starting to get confused. Would you reckon I should use this one when in VR and AutoFPS when in 2D? I'm thinking that they probably shouldn't run at the same time, as they'll conflict with each other and I won't know which one to work with. Or maybe this app supersedes AutoFPS? I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this type of thing

Thanks for checking out this cool piece of software. I tried it on my PiMax and while things were very smooth I could hear a faint clicking whenever LOD is adjusted. I tried out AutoFPS and heard the same clicking. Did you experience this?

Great video. How did you record fps in obs? I can see fps in vr but it doesn't show on my monitor so I can't record it.

It would be interesting to share your VR graphics settings from msfs2020 so I can make a comparison with my RTX4090 and HP Reverb G2 headset.

Where can I download Smooth Flight? The link you have provided does not have the Smooth Flight Program.

How do you install it? I ran it today then msfs2020 and it didn’t do anything.

After installation, my Crystal started to act up, not connecting and disconnecting. Mouse acting up, screen flashing on Pimax app. Only thing I did was add this program. Maybe it has nothing to do with this, but very coincidental. I don’t really need this anyway, as the new DLSS with my 4090 is smooth as butter now.

Unfortunatly the exe file is removed from zip archive, only plugin is there which is not working stand a alone. I coudn't figure out how to reach developer to get access to exe file.

Pretty sure your setting in the Smooth Flight app are incorrect. The TLOD in the video was locked at 22 for the entire flight. Probably why your flight was so smooth. When I use the app it actually dynamically changes the TLOD from 55- 199 dependent on my altitude and/or FPS. That's the way the app is supposed to work.

I think you got it right.. The actual FPS was always below the target FPS, so it would have been trying to reduce load the whole flight, but was limited by the Lower limit of TLOD (22) and OLOD(100)

@@somewhereelsestudio6342 yep. His Target FPS was between 35-38 but he was only hitting 31-32 FPS....He should have set his FPS range between 30- 32 or there abouts.

I set my target range between 29-31 and it works great

Sense i been using this, SmoothFlight, I've been getting about 90 to 100 FPS on MSFS 2020 on my Monitor and in my Crystal I've been getting 50 to 60+ frames , Using a Intel I9 14 core, 4080 Tuf Video Card, and a Pimax Crystal, Strange thing Is all the rest of my game have been getting Very high Frame rate as well.

Thanks for the feedback dapage68. I have a horrible 2-D monitor so I get very limited testing time in flat-panel mode. The system gets a full workout in VR mode, so it's good to see that those who fly in 2D mode get decent results too. And who ever thought that MSFS was capable of 100FPS? When VR was first supported and we were getting 15 FPS, I really didn't think we would ever get to "here"
