So excited to learn about new “helps” to study the Bible. What is the name of the book Proverbs 31 study guide? Trying to find it on Amazon. Thanks for your insights and inspiration to dig deeper. I am almost 74 years old, wife, mother to 3 adult children, have 6 precious grandchildren and one adorable great grandson, a retired nurse. Married for almost 55 years. Been a Christian for 53+ years and learning more about God’s love through His Word every day. Still have so much to learn. Love watching you and Dawn on You Tube. Thank you so much for sharing Christ with me and so many others.

The verse about the cistern really reminds me of what Ruth Chou Simons is talking about in When Strivings Cease. She talks about how human endeavours can never compare to His, but they don't need to, because of His redeeming grace. Interesting parallels.

Very good word about prepping! I agree, I have thought about it that no matter how much we could prepare, we would undoubtedly forget something or not be able to provide for long enough or maybe it would get too old or rodents would get in it, or whatever. I think it’s a good idea to prepare for a job loss or power outage or something more short term, but thinking we can provide everything for years for our future family is kind of in the realm of hewing out cisterns for ourselves. Thanks for sharing about this Bible study website. I have used Blue Letter Bible a lot, but not this one.

Even when Jesus spoke to the woman at the well, He spoke of giving her water whereby she would never thirst again. John 7:38,39 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. But this spake He if the spirit which they that believe in Him should later receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because Jesus was not yet glorified. Diana, I have asked this question before without an answer so I will raise it again here. I know you say you are a Pastor and you state Lisa Harper’s wisdom in teaching however, Paul was very clear that women are not to teach in the church, they are not to have any authority over men including being Elders and Deacons. While I haven’t heard of a lot of the commentators in the Study Light website, I did note Matthew Henry and Charles Spurgeon were among some of the names in commentaries and teaching. Both of these men have the same view about women teaching in the church, they believe the teachings of God’s word through Paul that women are to be silent in the church. I have watched Lisa Harper and she does not know how to expound God’s word. She teaches using eisegesis which is placing ourselves into the Bible narrative (which a lot of women teachers do such as Joyce Meyer, Christine Caine, Priscilla Shirer etc) when scripture should be taught using exegesis to understand the meaning of the text. For example, if you have taught or heard the biblical history of David and Goliath to be that we can slay our giants, what are your giants etc - this is an incorrect understanding of scripture. The story is all about salvation, it is a type and shadow of Jesus. Jesus is the greater David, Goliath is the enemy (sin and death), we are the Israelites in the background being saved. It is not about slaying your giants, your job, your relationships, whatever is in your way etc. I really am interested to know your response to this. I was caught up in charismatic churches for many years before I saw the truth, that I was being taught the Bible incorrectly and following false teachers (such as those mentioned here and others). I am concerned that so many women are being deceived to believing incorrect teaching. Are you able to provide a biblical response to women teaching men in church?
@arcane7298
@arcane7298 2 года назад
Apostle Paul gave that message to the Ephesian church, because at that time the women there were not educated and were not trained in the synagogues, so he was concerned they might not properly handle the word, but Apostle Paul didn't stop educated women from teaching men. He worked alongside Priscilla who was the Bible teacher of Apollos. Women throughout the old testament were responsible for educating children and other women in the scriptures, but as the church matured, women became just as educated as men.Moreover, since Christ has come, the Holy Spirit has been poured out on both men and women to prophesy and teach. If God has given someone the gift of teaching, and they are teaching the words of God, how can anyone say it is only for one sex or another. It is as if you are saying that the word of God is somehow made less powerful if the vessel is a woman. And yet the Word made flesh was brought forth through the womb of a woman. God's Word is not chained. He can use anyone he wishes to teach. Especially in a time when there are so many absent fathers and corrupt, immoral men in authority, God will use the pure in heart and the humble to carry his word to the nations. This argument that women can't teach is steeped in Old Testament legalism and contradicts the message of the cross and the gospel, which has redeemed us from the curse.
@debm3716
@debm3716 2 года назад
@@arcane7298 I agree that women can teach women and children. In saying that, we need to be sure that scripture is being expounded correctly - the women I have named in my original comment do not know how to expound scripture accurately and women should steer clear from their teaching. Scripture tells us the following in 1 Timothy 2:11-14 ‘Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness. I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve; and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor.’ Paul also says in 1 Corinthians 14:33 ‘As in all the churches of the saints, the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law says.’ Nowhere in scripture does Paul say the reason for women not speaking in church was because they were uneducated - unless you can provide me with the scripture references. He clearly says in 1 Corinthians ‘As in ALL the churches of the saints’ - either we believe God’s written word or we don’t. Regarding Priscilla - she did not exercise authority over Apollos, she was with her husband when they spoke with him. Just like we can have a conversation with other Christians, this does not mean we are exercising authority over a man. God assigned men and women with different roles. Women are able to evangelise etc however, women are not permitted to have any authority over men in church - which means they are not permitted to teach men. Also just to address the comment about pure in heart - none of us are pure in heart. We are sinners saved by grace. The Bible says our hearts are wicked. The qualifications for overseers and deacons clearly show in 1 Timothy 3:1-13 that these roles are for men ie. husband of one wife and references to ‘he’ etc. Happy for you to send me scripture references if you have them that refute the above biblical text 🙏

Hi! I love your emphasis on scripture and your heart for women to know it! Here are some Scriptures to consider: Old Testament precedent of women called "prophetess" or "woman prophet".... Miriam in Exodus 15 :20, Deborah in Judges 4 :4, Hulda in Second Kings 22: 14, Noadiah in Nehemiah 6:14, and "the prophetess" in Isaiah 8:3.... Miriam claims the LORD "has spoken" through her. Deborah says to Barak, "Look, the LORD God of Israel has commanded" etc.... God repeatedly used women in the Old Testament to speak His words to men and women alike... hmmm.... And there were NT prophetesses in the book of Acts, and Lydia had a church in her house, and Paul mentions numerous women "coworkers," and Paul was ok with Priscilla helping her husband teach and disciple a man..hmm.... Deborah was a woman "judge" in the OT, who humbly directed all the men of Israel, though she wanted Barak to actually physically lead them... hmm... 1 Corinthians 14 is ALL about how the church is supposed to control outbursts of speech, not the ability to ever speak!(Scope it out- its about limiting it to 2 or 3 tongues and interpretations and 2 or 3 prophecies, and not allowing women to randomly speak out questions in church instead of at home.... The emphasis of this passage is all about how our God is a God of order and our churches should be orderly also-that people Are Able To Control Their Outbursts.... And research the cultural context of ancient Rome-women were not allowed to speak in public assembly or to hold office at that time-hence, it could bring shame for a woman to "one-up" her husband by speaking out in a church meeting) .... hmmmm... WE KNOW FROM 1 CORINTHIANS 11:5ff THAT WOMEN D-I-D SPEAK OUT IN CHURCH TO PRAY AND TO PROPHESY (They were just supposed to do this in a respectful way submissive to authority... back then only prostitutes had their hair shaved short, so Paul instructed the women of that day to speak in church with their head covered (keep their long hair, etc) so they would not be "improper/shameful"... But In our country today, people don't look at a woman with a short haircut and assume anything shameful about her-in fact, most of our precious elderly women end up getting their hair cut short and there is no association of shame with that.... hmmmm... so if the short-hair-thing was culturally based and not in effect now, this is possible that the "shame" brought by a woman teaching a man or an outburst of a question from a woman, was merely cultural also, isn't it? (We never hear of a woman earning her degree to become a college professor and recoil with the thought, "Wow, that's shameful!" Do we?) ... hmmm.... And the 1 Timothy passage isALL about humble submission... that men were supposed to humble themselves in prayer lifting up holy hands without any disputing or quarreling etc-they were supposed to be humble before God and living in peaceful orderly community as a testimony to the world.... AND IN LIKE MANNER-IN THE SAME WAY AS THE MEN!-WOMEN WERE SUPPOSED TO BE CHARACTERIZED BY A HUMBLE LIFE (working hard at good deeds instead of working hard at being eye-candy)... I do wholeheartedly agree about the title-thing.... that there is no scriptural precedent to giving the title of pastor or deacon to a woman. It's just not there in scripture! And the scripture only uses male pronouns (he, him, etc) to refer to these roles.... B-u-t, has God used women in scripture to speak/teach things to men? Yes. It's there repeatedly! ... does God use women in church? Yes! Does He give all kinds of good gifts of the Holy Spirit to women that are to be used to build everyone up in the church? Definitely YES! ... we all don't have the same title or role, but we are a-l-l necessary (the eye and the foot are both equally needful to the body!)... and we a-l-l will give an account of ourselves to the One who gave us these gifts. So let's not judge each other too harshly, while we are all trying to figure this stuff out... I really liked that you had such a great attitude in your original comment and response! May the LORD help us all to keep growing in our understanding! And thanks for your patience in reading this through, if you made it this far, lol! Have a great day!
@debm3716
@debm3716 2 года назад
@@dianewatson5015 thank you for taking the time to respond with biblical references. With the women you mention in the OT and NT, none of them had spiritual authority over men. Yes, God gave them a special service and Lydia is a good example of an evangelist. However, there is no reference in scripture that Lydia taught the church but that she hosted church in her home. There is a difference between prayer and prophecy to teaching with authority to men, or holding a spiritual office over men. 1 Corinthians and 1 Timothy are talking about order in the church and make it clear that women are not to have spiritual authority over men. As you have also said, there is no reference in scripture to a woman being in any kind of spiritual leadership, no apostle, no pastor, no deacon or elder. Scripture gives us what we need to know therefore, the lack of this information tells us that it is men who are to hold these positions within the church. This shouldn’t be something women need to feel inferior about, it is God’s established order. This makes sense when we think of the order of marriage which is compared to Christ and the church. 1 Corinthians 11:3 ‘But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.’ There is nothing saying women are inferior, God has determined an order. It goes on in chapter 11 to talk about no covering for a man and a covering for a woman when they pray. This is in reference to submission, leading on from v3. For the Corinthians, it was the culture of the day for wives to have longer hair than their husbands, by having longer hair showed she was submissive to her husband. V10 talks about having a symbol of authority on her head because of the angels. Angels are in perfect submission to God and expect that we would be in submission to our husbands. This is about a heart attitude of obedience to God's authority and submission to His established order. God is more concerned with us having an attitude of submission than an outward display of submission via a head covering. However, if women choose to have long hair because of this passage then we aren’t to judge them for that. I have known women who have taken this passage literally and that is totally fine. I stand by my original comment that women are not permitted to teach in church or have any spiritual authority over a man. Women have been given spiritual gifts, we are to teach children, evangelise, pray, hospitality, encouragement etc. There is a long list of spiritual gifts that God has given to women, we must respect God’s order for the church and our homes. I do find it interesting that Diana has not addressed this issue personally and I hope she sees this comment thread and gives it serious thought. It appears to me given the women she follows on her videos that she is part of a church movement that have moved away from this type of authority in church and in many cases, are women and churches that do not know how to expound scripture correctly. If you are interested to see a comparison between sound biblical teaching and false teaching, I encourage you to watch a video titled ‘Lisa Harper and John MacArthur v Acts 10’ (I think it’s Acts 10 from memory). It can be found on the you tube channel ‘an idiot with a Bible.’ He just runs the two sermons so you can clearly see the different teaching styles. I’d be interested in your opinion once you’ve watched it. God bless 🙏

@@debm3716 I so appreciated reading this thread! Thank you for your initial comment especially. While I believe Diana has pure intentions and a sincere love of God, I have also been concerned about the women she follows. After I watched American Gospel a couple years back, my eyes were opened to some of the deceit I had bought into. Since then, I have learned to be appropriately skeptical about every new teacher I hear about, and of all the names you listed, Lisa Harper concerns me the most. Back when Diana mentioned Lisa's devotional I think it was, I looked her up and heard her referencing the enneagram to the congregation! I was floored. Since then, I've been praying for Diana's protection from such influence. I do hope that as she is diving deep with these particular study sources, that she will begin to identify the good teachings from the bad as I have learned to do these past two years! Praise God that you found your way out of the charismatic movement! Thank you again for drawing attention to this in love and wisdom!

If you prayerfully prepare, there is no "scrambling" to provide for yourself. Prepping is not to be mistaken for hoarding. God sent Joseph to Egypt to attain a position of power in order to preserve his family. While there during the 7 years of abundance, he was inspired to store grain in the cities beyond measure, & it saved them during the famine. Being prepared does not mean you aren't relying on God!

Is the green floral and brown Bible in this video a study Bible? If it is, would you be able to link or tell me where to find the Bible in this video? I have had one exactly like that on the cover but it isn’t a study Bible and I am always torn between that one and my study Bible.

It’s not a study Bible! It’s actually a journaling bible that we received for our wedding 💛 It’s really lovely!

Thank you for the video. But a question for you...Didn't God put Joseph in Egypt to interpret the dream of 7 years of plenty followed by 7 years of plenty, so that they could prepare for it? I believe whole heartily in God's provision, but I believe in following examples from the Bible of being prepared. Not trying to be disrespectful, just curious 🙂

Yes, the Lord used Joseph to interpret the dream and he followed what the Lord told him to do. Meanwhile Israel was unaware of the upcoming famine therefore did not prepare but God provided, he had a plan. If you feel the Lord is speaking to you to prepare by all means you should follow his leading. Keep in mind he may not put this on the hearts of all Christians. What is most important is that within the choice we are depending on him and his provision.

Yes, this was the order of events, but honestly there isn't really any lesson for us in the story about preparing for famine. Rather, they are simply the events that unfolded around Joseph that reflect the types and shadows of Christ, all while resulting in bringing the Israelites to Egypt where they would have provision and protection (with Joseph being basically second in command). God was paving the way from the beginning to ensure Israel would continue to grow, as they were His chosen people to *bring* Christ into the world :)

I wanted to come with help for people who wants to study the Bible...but seems like those comments were removed :( ...why?? I guess it's only selective comments you allow. I only tried to provide some more help to help people study and know their Bible 🙏

I caught that, too, but then I heard her say Joseph later and I could imagine her saying, "Mom brain!" haha! I remember when she apologized in advance for any misspeaking when she was newly pregnant with her latest...so cute, lol
