If you need to glue wood to metal then choosing the right adhesive can be a real challenge. Faced with this problem I did a full test of a range of glues in order to figure out which glue would be the best for gluing a piece of wood to a sheet of stainless steel.

One thing about gluing wood. Clamps. All furniture repair and wood workers all agree that gluing wood REQUIRES clamping or high pressure. Just leaving the wood on the metal is not a valid strength test.

That’s a good point. I had always thought about the clamp being used for stabilizing when drying and also spreading the glue, but perhaps it helps with penetration and other factors. Will take this into account with future testing! Thanks

@@HelpAtMyHome I only found out about the wood and clamping (for sure) in the last couple of years. Clamping wood changes the fail point from the glue to the wood fibers. Just a thought.

Thank you, this helped me out. Trying to figure out which glue will keep a 2x4 to the metal floor of a van. Was going to go with the heavy adhesive they sell at Lowes, but will give Gorilla Super Glue a try. I like that it sticks to it pretty well but is reversable if something needs to be changed.

Yes I’d thing typically that would be a construction adhesive if you want it to be semi permanent. I didn’t get into those. But depending on the use case maybe glue works? I have no idea on the vehicle safety angle though
