Love the eclectic nature of this page, it's wacky but works. I always use your top down glueing method since I saw you do it a year or so ago. So much easier than taking everything off and working from the back as you can never get things in the same order again. Thanks Barbara xx

Barbara, your idea of glueing from top to bottom is absolutely brilliant. I was doing a collage right now and I was afraid to move the pieces not the break the fragile composition. And just two glue drops locked all the layers perfectly! Thank you!

I’ve seen you do many collages but for some reasons when I’m making a collage, I always forget to glue from top down. That is one of the smartest things you do. I need to remember this. I absolutely love the packing paper you use to clean the extra paint and ink off your stencils. It’s kind of what you might think of as a throw away paper. But the Junk Journal world sees the beauty of it! Love the gold!!

Barbara: the only issue is the same issue you have with collaging: keeping the imagines in place. However, I’ve been using your method of gluing for years. Somewhere along the line I figured it out. What a neat idea of the cityscape & a more rural area. I think not having interesting backgrounds & lack of elements. Is what I face with collage. Adding a great book for elements & having things fussy cut will help a lot.

Hey Mrs.Barbara 🥰. You are such an inspiration. And I love your journal. It's becoming so chunky she will need her own shelf. 🤣🤣🤣 I absolutely enjoy watching you collage but I've only tried it once. I made a tag for my art journal. Your collage reminds me of a Salvador Dali surreal painting. A masterpiece. When I make my next collage I'll have to keep in mind to think outside the box. This is so very helpful. I really appreciate you explaining your process in putting this together. . . And the glue tip - Oh my, that is huge for me as I can do all the rearranging and then glue. Love that. My biggest challenge is what to draw from my stash in putting together a collage. I have lots of magazine and images from books, scrapbook pieces, painted paper pieces, etc. I get overwhelmed in knowing what to pull out. Thank you so much!

What a fun concept! I became much more comfortable collaging after you did a few videos on it some years back. The top down gluing method is the only one I can use. Otherwise it's just a crooked mess! Now, I wonder if I have some buildings somewhere to create my own version of this...

I love your fun collage and giggled along with you. Collage art is so visually pleasing to me and after watching this video, I think I'm just taking it way too seriously and need to just have fun with it like you. Plus, having a container of pictures cut out seems like a fabulous idea. I was determined to learn to collage this year but had given up on it after attempting a few. I enjoyed watching your process and hearing your explanations. The collage is great. I have that book too and it is awesome. Gluing everything down is definitely the part that I struggle with most. Often things don't end up exactly as how I'd originally placed them, but I will try your gluing methods now and see if that works better for me. I never thought to do it that way.

Super Barbara, I feel I have to glue elements as I go. I would stress with moving ephemera, also I find it difficult to know when enough is enough. If that isn't enough, there are quite a few things I don't like to use......faces, people, eyes. I like to use botanicals and natural pieces. I love your work.

I'm sitting here trying to analyze my issues with collage...I think I have some difficulty letting go of the need to have a coherent story to anyone who might see the collage, I do think the color harmony can carry the cohesion, but...I'm not confident that I can pull it off.... So I generally feel more comfortable with a totally abstract collage... Yet I really love when you and others do make the leap into fantasy :-)

Hello Barbara, I am still very much a newbie with collage and junk journals. The thing I feel most insecure about is layering. I can’t ever tell if I’ve got too much or too little, or if the items mesh well with each other or not. I just keep watching all the videos and keep cutting and gluing. I figure I’ll get there some day. ❤

I use the large hair clips that hairdressers use to section hair. They are very long and help to hold your pieces in place, while you are deciding 😊

Baby girl, this is so cool! Seeing your book reminds me that I have a similar one, and I think your idea of having a bunch of photos already cut out is brilliant. I thought of King Kong for what that's worth. 9/11 didn't even occur to me. I think that's a valid point though. We are all at different mourning places from that event.

Maybe the duck crossing sign would look good at the bottom of the left page, adding one more yellow point and breaking up the straight line at the bottom of the row of brownstone houses. Mushrooms as trees, brilliant!

Love you too Barbara. You are amazing at making collages. I struggle with making it perfect and I'm not so brave to do strange things as you do. I don't do art journals as of yet. But next year I'm going to follow Margaret Miller's challenge and that will give me practice in doing collages. And maybe I can add my own fun pages in that journal with hers. I think it will be good practice for making my normal journals

I struggle the most with making everything balance. I love the gluing process though. I love how this turned out, and did not care for it during the process, but love how you made everything work together and balance. I’m getting there but not quite yet.

I have a hard time pulling everything out that I want to use in a collage. It’s like the theme keeps changing because I see something else I like. And it’s hard to tie two themes together. Then, I cannot figure out how to layer them. That always seems to come so natural for you. But I fumble all over the place.😂. I dedicated a separate book to just to practice collaging on. And every time I sit down and think I’m going to do it, I just close it back up. But I know that would be a great way for me to get more comfortable. I love collaging but often feel a bit blank at the beginning. The background paper was a great way to start and I think that would help me to get into the flow more quickly. I love your sense of humour in your creating. For some reason I kept thinking about a big road in the foreground instead of the stork. Much love from me in Aotearoa New Zealand xxx

This was really inspiring! :) I've always seen myself as rubbish at collages but... I'm proud of myself for seeing the yellow mushroom as a background on page two. :) I'm not good with combining elements as you do...and yes, even if I try to glue down as you do, the starting is really difficult. I do have the triangle part down now, and I'm used to compose things (since I'm a photographer), but playing...I'm not good with at all. Starting to, with a little Christmas just for fun journal and I've created the cover for the Dephemerember challenge. :) So, slowly...step by step... But creating as effortless as you do... I'm so far behind I could be in a galaxy far far away... ;)
