Thank you guys so much for getting a Notaklon to the UK in time for Christmas. My wife ordered it for me and got my kids to paint the enclosure. So I think I have the only rainbow zebra ninja turtle edition 😂. Best gift ever!
Happy New Year to Y'all at JHS!!! I'm just gonna say it because when I turned 70... I just didn't care anymore. And Thanks for putting in the extra time for this video. This format is good for me... I get thirsty during the Holidays for a good hour with Josh's Jams. Great pedals!
I just got my Reel DEALuxe pedal. Very cool. Thanks for pimping it out! It’s great that you champion other folks’ great gear! It reminds me of a Dallas arbiter range master, only around $2000 cheaper. (And wobbly…)
So much shade thrown on this episode, first at Nick not being there, then Addison for deserting, then Josh B bringing it all home by blaming the lack of bass and drums due to Josh's control issues....shadefest. What a way to end the year! :)
It's funny but somewhat troubleing that Josh can say he didn't want to make a political statement by mentioning a certain politician that goes braindead and you're not sure exactly who he means due to the amount of possibilities
One thing that comes through in these videos is Josh loves pedals and playing. He also has no issue with tipping the cap to other pedal makers. Very refreshing:)
JHS has a lot of love for other companies. I’d like to see a series of JHS pairing each pedal they offer with one pedal J loves from another company. Not a shootout but like a wine and food pairing. Wine and food pairings are a thing right? Much luv
Pumped to see Oneder Effects get some love! The Aquatone is amazing has gotten a ton of love from me this year, it was one of my top 10 pedals over on UG! So glad JHS could spread the word on that one, Ben from ELFX is the man
@jhspedal I just wanted to thank you for all the time and careful consideration you give every effect engineer. The amount of education that can be drawn from your knowledge base is exceptional. It’s an amazing time in music, and you really do something that blesses us all to have access to. I could never afford to try everything, and your obsession with sound and technical knowledge of that past and present circuitry is a real life saver. Thank you very much for being you.
Great episode. Had no idea the Mojo Hand fx Stylus was even a thing! So cool and simple. I only wished you would have shown the Cusack Resound v2 Reverb - no one talks about it and they really should.
This was a fun episode. You guys are awesome. Nick better get back there before he loses his drumming gig. Cool jams as always, I almost feel guilty that I’m watching this for free. Great entertainment thanks guys. Really like that Tallon Electric pedal, will have to research. Recently picked up a Catalinbread Talisman and I am very impressed with it. What a time to be alive if you love guitar like I do. Thank you gentlemen. Happy New Year 🎆
Hexe FX from Poland, has sth quite similar to the Stylus. It is called the Melusine. A Vinyl simulator. I was just thinking that i don't remember having heard you mention that company/guy before. He has this incredible pedal "Revolver" amongst a handful of other ones which is a sampler/granular texture generator, i forget the name of the rather famous pedal that does sort of the same thing, but be that as it may, from the few demos i have heard, i don't own one unfortunately, this is one incredible pedal and it MORE THAN DESERVES TO BE MENTIONED BY YOU. Give it a listen, the shout out will follow i'm sure!
Mojohand FX is a totally underrated brand....great fuzzes! Stylus looks and sounds really cool, seems like it'd be great being placed right after a looper.
Hello guys, I am a big fan of the lucky cat pedal. I think that it would be an awesome upgrade for the pedal to keep its compact size, include a delay time screen, stereo outputs and a delay type selector switch or knob on top.
what a great episode - i've been on the edge of my seat for 2 HOURS! Mikel Patrick Avery wins - those pedals look wonderful, and that Tulip absolutely burns
I picked one up after Josh’s year end round up last year and there is seriously nothing that doesn’t sound good going through it. I had to take it off my board because I’m constantly running random shit in the studio through it haha.
Hey Josh, I don’t know if somebody’s already commented about this, but, “the juice is loose”, is actually a reference to O.J. Simpson when he played football, and he would be breaking tackles and then take off down the field.
Hey, I purchased the Stylus when it first came out and I really love the pedal, I couldn’t find it here in Australia so bought it direct from USA. It works great with overdrive and reverb. Very cool pedal!!
This is my favorite review for 2023. Thank you Josh! I#m convinces this one is also missing: the notaklön. Can't await the delivery to Austria until February...All the best for you and all enthusiasts in 2024!
I will watch this later, as I have no time right now to do so. However, I wanted to wish you a happy New Year, whilst do you still remember things…😂. Remember that tomorrow night is “amateur nights out” - if you must be out, be defensive.😊 🎸👨🏼⚕️🫶✌️♾️. Thank your contributions to a great 2023.
Followed the release of the Stylus and the few reviews that came out and purchased one a month ago. It is unique, which is what I like about it and with a little patience and tuning can actually be a subtle overdrive pedal of a different breed.
I am baffled by how many (different) overdrives are still built every -month- year and apparently even sell well. Not sure about well, but i doubt there'd still be any in production if the market was fully saturated, no? About the sound....either i am 97% deaf and a full on loser, or it's more like the essence of what you just wrote there, haha!
The Stone Burner is my first always on pedal. I stack it with the Atreides when I need that extra drive for lead. My Peavy Bandit 112 has never been happier.
From Bing: Envelope is a word that has two possible pronunciations. One is (en-vuh-lohp), which is more common in the UK and the US12. The other is (on-vuh-lohp), which is more common in French and sometimes used in the US13. Some people consider the second pronunciation to be pretentious or unnecessary. Both pronunciations are derived from the verb envelop, which means to wrap or cover something.
I worked in a music shop in Australia in the late 80's. We had a range of totally unwanted, but really great pedals by Korg. Never seen one since. You ever come across them? Would be great to see a show on them.
I can see his reverb shop. He just doesn’t have any listings right now. It’s just 1 guy, in his spare time, and he sold out two batches of the aqua tone. Also it’s the holidays. I’m sure he’ll post more when he has made a new batch of limited pedals.
With the holidays and notations and germanium tumni flying around and extra low prices. It’s taken a while for me to get to watch this. This is so great! Last minutes of year end prices and a greatest hits of the year show! You may be one of the six that controls the world and I’m ok with that! Merry Christmas Happy new year! Been a pleasure hanging out this year! Cant wait to see what JHS brings to 2024!
So, I've been purposefully not commenting about this pedal company because I'm worried you all talking about them will make their stuff harder to get (and I feel like I'm getting annoying about them on other pages) but I really believe in what Daniel is doing with his company and his products, and I can't believe they haven't shown up at least once on the JHS Show or Emily Hopkins' channel. Lichtlaerm Audio out of Berlin has been relentlessly putting out amazing products (a dozen pedals with more on the way and an amplifier in preorder) since July of last year. They're generally aimed more toward metal players but I'd love to hear Josh and JHS's thoughts on their stuff.
I get that there are reasons for more jams with loopers and drum machines and fewer (any?) with Nick and Addison, and I appreciate what I'm hearing here, yet I miss the big jams and "turn your vocal mic off."
Can you guys examine the MOSKY M Series line? They seem to have taken your lead on multi-faceting for certain popular drives, mod pedals, etc. The have a Big Fuzz, a Big Rat, and basically all of the pedals you have created (like muffaletta) but they are $30, and about the size of your 3 series line.
At 1:45:39 I felt like Josh was walking down the aisle of a Home Depot gathering materials….and this jam is what he was humming and bobbing his head to…..that’s how I see it 😎😎 #youcandoitwecanhelp
My top pedal-that-should-have-gotten-more-notice was .... the JHS Blacked Out oil can delay. That simple Series 3 layout (and price!) and it sounds freakin' fantastic.
@@TheRealcdawg22 It's less flexible than the Black Fountain: a switch with two settings for the modulation instead of the continuous knob, and no tap tempo. And the range of control on all parameters is less extreme. The JHS pedal is more polite, so to speak. But it sounds great, and it fits t=nicely into a mix, and it plays well with other pedals. As Jacob says, the secret mode is pretty great. I'm usually using lt toward the end of the chain to add a bit of depth and warmth and blend the previous stranger pedal elements together. (I tend to stack a lot of pedals!) It's also a great slapback sound. It's not a *wow* pedal, but the combination of $99, great sound, and the amount of time I've got it on has made it worth mentioning.
I've been browsing for a new effect, but every time I reach the conclusion that I don't need anything else. well, maybe a noise gate but I could build that. wanting and needing are 2 different animals. I actually wanted to get a "jcm800" preamp, but I tried the BM as a boost for the Guvnor (clone) and that made it nicely.
This has been the best JHS video to date…. If you’d like to know every reason why, just ask. 😂😂 And the jam with the Riptide & Del-Verb was fucking great!!!! Good playing there Josh
I love how chat began to slightly troll Dustin Brummett around 1:31 when he couldn't get the answer to what Josh was playing through ("what is the sound coming out of..." etc)
Another great and very useful video!! But it's really very hard for me to get all the nuances of each pedal since all the audio comes through my computer D to A converter, and then over my good but hardly fantastic computer speakers, an Audioengine HD6 to be exact. Thus it is really hard to know what the pedals actually sound like as used in a big rig. I wish you would summarize which pedals you really think are worth buying. Thanks! For what it's worth, the Tallon pedal sounded very good to me, as did the Aquatone.
The controls on the Poly aren't all that new-- Darkglass has been using a similar interface for their A.D.A.M., Alpha-Omega Phi, and Microtubes Infinity preamps for several years now. Feels weird at first, but after a little familiarization, it becomes second nature.
When the preview for this vid popped up I said "we could watch this for NYE" semi-jokingly, my partner and bandleader said "It's probably 2 hours long..." hahahaha, nailed it.
Tallon is very early 2000's Marvel. Very Mike Deodato style to my Eye...yes it is killler! And the Josh Smith Pedal is kinda like a Riverside with Cascading Jfets. Clever guys
If the "best" amp setting is "on the edge of breakup" and the best OD pedal setting takes the sound just over that, should the 'best" fuzz sound be " just on the edge of spit-up"?
The most underrated pedal, to me, is the Lizard Queen. I feel that one should be the next legendary pedal, like the TS808, FZ-2, DS-1, and the others that still sell a ton after 40 years. If anyone misses that one, they're doing themselves a disservice.
