As a beginner I really dig the heavy picks, it feels like when you choose your tone on a electric

In the beginning it’s always important to take these things into consideration. Lighter picks can be easier to learn with. Once you start improving your skills you can start trying different picks and use whichever feels more comfortable for you. I use many different kinds of picks depending on the sound I want (brighter or darker) or the technique I’m using (strumming fast or slow, playing solo lines, or even depending on the genre). 🙂

I really like the orange one. It’s a great balance of soft enough for smooth strumming and sturdy enough for playing single notes. 🙂

Which pick is best for both rhythm and lead acoustic guitar!!

Out of these 3 picks I would go with the yellow 0.73mm. They offer some giving (flexibility) for strumming but are also thick enough for a more defined sounding notes when soloing. But it’s always important to try it for yourself. What I’m sharing should be a starting point. If the yellow ones don’t feel comfortable for you, try the orange 0.60mm picks or if you want something a little more sturdy go with the green 0.86mm. I hope this helps you! 🙂

Vast oversimplification, as is the nature of these short vids. This is not terrible advice for a beginner. But as soon as you become an intermediate player, the light pick remains good for certain things but holds you back from effectively adding bass notes, bass lines, melodies and licks. A light pick also removes the bass response from your guitar, which is sometimes what you want, but for many people, it’s not.

It seems like you have a lot of knowledge on this subject. Care to share it?

@@PassTheGuitarLIVE don't get offended. He is 100% correct. I was a beginner and used the red pick at first... but quickly became pretty good at strumming and was unable to drive punchier bass and high notes with the red and even orange picks. Now I'm on Yellow (and sometimes even consider green) since I've developed good wrist control to adjust the "harshness" of each strum motion. So your vid is GREAT advice for beginners but @David Rothberg is correct about it only applying for a short season before it begins to quickly and significantly limit strumming dynamics

I find it that I’m always trying out different picks. It depends on what genre/instrument/tuning we are playing. Keep trying different picks until you find one that feels comfortable and gets you the sound you’re looking for.

These Tortex picks come with a number (measurement) for their picks: the red one is .50mm (Extra Thin), the orange one is .60mm (Thin), and the yellow one is .73mm (Medium). Hope that helps.

As an electronic guitar beginner which pick should I go with?
@Dogetheun
@Dogetheun 10 месяцев назад
If you want to pick really fast go with jazz iii picks but if you want to strum get some really flexible picks, I would get Dunlop nylon picks because they’re flexible and are very comfortable
@PassTheGuitarLIVE
@PassTheGuitarLIVE 9 месяцев назад
Well said @Dogetheun ! Flexible picks are usually the ones used for strumming and thicker picks for shredding quick lines. If the Jazz III feel too small, you can always get Dunlop heavy picks (1mm and up).

So I just got one question I’m using a light pick but every time I strum you can hear the pic flexing and making a sound
@professored7169
@professored7169 10 месяцев назад
What's your question? If you don't like that sound try a thicker pick, I prefer thick picks because you can hold it looser and it will do the light pick thing or hold it tighter and it will give you more attack, I use dunlop jazz 3s the nylon red ones, but if you don't want something that small get a dunlop variety pack in med/hvy and you can try alot of different sizes and materials
@PassTheGuitarLIVE
@PassTheGuitarLIVE 9 месяцев назад
Nicely said @professored7169 ! You can also get Dunlop nylon picks. Those are great for strumming. And I know many guitar players that use them to solo as well.

I was looking for a pick to both strum and play solo for an electric guitar, what thickness or picks should I go for
@PassTheGuitarLIVE
@PassTheGuitarLIVE 9 месяцев назад
It depends on how comfortable you feels with your grip on the pick. If you feel comfortable loosing up and tightening up your grip on the pick I would suggest you use a heavy/thick pick 1mm and up (Tortex blue 1mm or purple 1.14mm). But if you don’t feel comfortable I would go with a medium pick (the Tortex yellow 0.77mm is great).
