Mike, I can't thank you enough for this! I'm a longtime Mac user and am always lamenting how most hams treat the Windows world as a foregone conclusion for all things ham. At one point I even tried using a new Windows laptop exclusively for radio, but I just wanted to smash the damn thing. (And I've even worked with Windows machines for decades now.) As a friend of mine likes to say, 'Windows is for pretending to do stuff; Mac and Linux are for actually doing it. ;-) Cheers and 73!

I love being able to do ham radio stuff on my Mac and iPhone! Especially now that you can natively run nearly any ham radio iPhone app on your Mac if it has a M1 chip. I hope new and exciting software continues to be developed for the platform. 73!

Great vid, I’ve been a Mac user for 30 years and accept that there isn’t that much out there when compared with Windows. You’ve given me some excellent references that I will exploit. With the exception of Elecraft the big three manufacturers decide to constantly ignore Mac OS - shame. 73 Mike

Hey Mike. I'm a Mac users too. At 5:45 you said when you clicked on the contact the app changed the freq on your radio. I'm guessing some cabling between the Mac and the radio is needed? Can you share what cable/radio combo you use for RumLog? Also I recently installed HAMRs on my iPhone, iPad and now my Macbook Pro. Is there a way to sync all the logs between your devices that have HAMRS? I could not see a sync option within the app. Thanks!

I would imagine so. The only downside I'd see from streaming from an iPad is the inability to really connect anything to it or use any sort of streaming software like OBS. My iPad is like 12 years old so I'm def not streaming from that lol!

Just FYI, the 1.0.6 version of HamRS does not run on an Intel Mac without overriding Mac security every time the computer is rebooted. This requires a change in the HamRS implementation to resolve.

Again a great video !! Question , You do FT-8 on a MAC i take it ? Where are you getting your drivers from ? I have been trying since last summer to get Yaesu 891 drivers for a MAC AIR Laptop. Also, wIth my Windows 10 Lenvo, I can't get the CAT control to work. I've looked for months on end to get it to work with NO Luck. I was told to do it oa MAC, but when I tried, t tried, I COULDN'T find any drivers compatible with MAC . Can you point me in the right direction. TYVM , Jim K2WPA

I have chirp and have used it to program some cheap mobile rigs. However I was told not to use it to program my yaesu ftm 400. Was told chirp was known to brick yaesu and to stick with Rt systems. I don’t know this to be fact, but it is what I have heard from another ham. Anyway good video mike! I have most of the apps on my iPhone. LOVE ham alert for catching those DX stations

@hamradiotube
@hamradiotube 10 месяцев назад
It's ridiculous that we should have to pay those prices just to program our radios. The FT5 is already $500. Yaesu at the very least should make programming software available for it for free. But, they would probably make the worst programming software in the world given their track record for making their radios really hard to navigate the menus.

Great review of Mac and iOS apps, Mike! I just recently sent you an email describing a Mac app that I found that works with a GPS dongle to allow you to set your Mac clock off of the GPS’ time with an app-provided SNTP server. Hope you find it useful… -W1AQP
