Best Hardware Shops in Japan - Mini-series - Cainz Home
In this mini-series, we visit hardware shops all over Japan. In this video, we visit Cainz Home, a massive home center that actually carries a lot more than just home improvement products. The Cainz Home chain of home centers range from smaller stores that only carry home improvement products to the larger home centers that have home improvement sections, gardening centers, pet shops, liquor store, and more. The Cainz Home stores are some of my favorite home centers due to their size and diversity of products.

As someone who works as a merchandiser at Home Depot, the attention to detail and impeccable cleanliness is beyond exceptional. Every display shown was dusted and clean to a shine, the lumber section was clean and organized, and the floors were impeccable as well. Also the fact that the table saw had a system as to prevent any sawdust from escaping and making a mess is quite possibly the most Japanese thing I've seen. Intentional, engineered, and upheld. A work of merchandising art.

Most ACE hardware stores here in the states do screws like you showed. It's an honor system, but incredibly helpful if I only need two specific screws. It'll cost less than a dollar versus going to a big box store and buying a 20 pack for 4 dollars

I love walking through Japanese hardwares and tool stores. Joyful Honda Mizuho out near the Yokoda AB is another fantastic hardware. Thanks for the vid.

I don't know why, but when it comes to other countries, I'd rather check out the hardware and grocery stores than the touristy stuff. I guess I'm just really curious how other people go about their daily business.

What boggles my mind isn’t the selection or availability of products… it’s the amazing cleanliness of the hardware/home store! LOL my local Home Depot/Lowes is a pig sty compared to that store.

Thanks for posting all the video!!!!! I would like to know if there is any book on how houses are built today in Japan, structures, foundations, bolts etc... I am very interested in the process and I can't find anything, I also wanted to suggest that you make an account on Amazon, to put tools and things that you use, for those of us who are outside of Japan we can buy those products..... and in this way you could also have an extra income, thanks again Big hug from Spain

Some of the wood in Japan is pressure treated. It can also be order this way.

Only in Japan can one find the honor system of selecting screws and marking prices? Really? I can understand your passion for Japan but that is far from true. Here in MD several hardware stores use a similar system (and also cut the wood to one's specification). Just sayin'...
