The channel 3 you have used to be for your ABC affiliate in the analog days (so if you had a VCR or DVD player, you had to put it on channel 4 to see and hear it). If you hook up a VCR, DVD player, RCA to RF modulator, or a digital converter box, it will work. I’m wondering how old your TV is. The digital tuner might not be as sensitive if it’s older. The Mediasonic Digital converter box or a new Samsung TV would definitely help with reception.
Try turning off the amplifier and rescan. Also that is the 'B' model which does not pick up VHF (RF channels 2-13). The 'BV' model is just a couple dollars more
I'd like to see a signal strength comparison between the two antennas. What channels don't you get that TV Fool.com or Antenna Web.org say that you should be able to get? How far from the transmitters are you? You could also try to disconnect the booster and scan again. I also found that LED lights mess with my signal strength on my attic mounted antennas. I also highly recommend NOT putting a paper clip into the antenna in connection on the TV as a paper clip is a thicker diameter than RG6 cable and it spreads the connection contacts which could result in signal strength problems after removing the paper clip.
How would I go about finding out the signal strength? Is there a device to measure that? I have not noticed much difference with LED lights. I've been switching a lot of my bulbs to LEDs, and I still get the same stuff. Thanks for the info about the paperclip.
yes your antenna is not picking up the vhf signals because it doesnt have the vhf dipoles installed, i believe they make a vhf kit for that antenna, on the back of the antenna there are two plugs that pull out of the holes on each side of the protrusion area, there is where you thread the vhf dipoles into the antenna.
I'm here in north west Arkansas and right now I'm using a mohu leaf antenna and I can get 3 channels if the wheather is good and when it picks up or starts storming it dies so would the antop do better and get me more channels I checked and I should be able to get 14 different ones I'm only about 20 miles from the towers
Not enough information to base a buying decision on, like how far away are the TV transmitters and what directions are they. Why not just show the channel scan on your home-made antenna and then with this new one? I'm not too clear on the advantage or disadvantage...
There is NO SUCH THING as an HDTV antenna. An ancient antenna from the 1950s will receive HDTV channels when connected to an HDTV capable TV. "HDTV antenna" is a pure BS marketing term. But YOU knew that since you built one.
I guess I never really thought about that before. That does make sense, and it also makes sense as to why older TVs needed those converter boxes back in the day.
