You might want to take off the rotor holders that are on the base of the wheel studs. ❤ makes taking off the rotor easy. 😊

I'd love a comparison video of all the trucks! Pros and cons about each one and what you like to use them for! I love this video! It's so good to replace brakes and then have the confidence of knowing that you have done the work!

Great video!! 👍🏼Never heard of Hawk brake pads before. With the dual piston calipers you could use the old worn brake pad across both pistons and use your C clamp in the middle of the pad to push both in at the same time. Take Care

Thanks for the tip. In the moment I really couldn’t remember how I have done it in the past.

If you use the Old pad between 2 C clamps you can compress both caliper pistons simultaneously.

Also I’ve seen remove some fluid volume from reservoir to accommodate the piston squeeze. Then refill after

It was a good thing he did it individually because he noticed one piston was sticking. ❤

Caliper bracket bolts are locktited, you shouldn’t use anti sieze

Glad to see you replaced the caliper. In the event you came upon slick road conditions the braking in that questionable caliper could cause uneven stopping. I had a caliper that did not release quickly enough causing uneven braking on a slick surface which caused the truck to pull hard to the left and subsequently rolled over.

Hawk are the best pads for heavy duty applications by far! Only downside for them is the brake dust they throw. But I'll live with that!
@ThriftyGarage

Yes, they are dusty.
@RCCustoms73

@@ThriftyGarage If you ceramic coat your wheels, the brake dust washes and rinses right off. FYI.

Do ya think removing the push nuts would have made it easy to remove?
@bungel657
@bungel657 2 года назад
You noticed that to :) :) , I was laughing when I was watching him Bound on the back of the Rotor, while the Push Nuts were holding the rotor on, I wonder how long it took him to see what the problem was.
@ThriftyGarage
@ThriftyGarage 2 года назад
It definitely would have made it easier to remove once I broke it loose from the hub. But this truck does have some rust and these rotors were definitely stuck to the hub.

Should always push both calipers in together! Pushing one in just pushes fluid to the other.
@ThriftyGarage

I think the brake lines collapsed, preventing fluid from returning to the master cylinder.

Have you ever tried Performance Friction Carbon metallic pads? Use them on my 2 trucks-2500HD with tow package and 8.1l and my older C20-just put on new Detroit Axle rotors on Front and back...pads I pulled off had 150,000 miles +/-....they use to make for cars and trucks...now just trucks-and Police cars...BEST PAD AVAILABLE....Hawk is Good...Performance Friction is Better...give them a try...I also tow too... Nice video...Thanks

I’ve got an ‘02 just like yours, much fewer miles though. Enjoyed watching the brake job, you almost make it look easy!

You were hitting the rotor on the backside in the beginning with the retainer clips still on the studs.

What size bolts did you use to push the rotors off?

@ThriftyGarage

I’ve never noticed the noise on my GMT800 trucks but I recently put them on my 2018 and gave noticed the noise more. It seems to come and go. Maybe noisy 10-20% of the time.

Do they have a factory recall yet? Obviously new pass isn’t the solution.

@Thrifty Garage nope. They told me they won't replace them again. Trying to figure out which ones I should just put on myself.
