Oh, I miss those picnics under the cherry blossom trees. It used to be this big social thing every spring. You’d pack in as many ‘hanami’ picnics as you could while the blossoms were still on the trees. Then the pandemic hit, and for 2 years it was kind of taboo. This year, small groups were doing it again, but the energy seemed kind of subdued compared to what it was like before.

In London our cherry blossom was out almost a month ago, and it was still very cold. The imported Japanese trees they put along nice streets - the other trees hadn't had their leaves yet. Weird!

Portland just finished its cherry blossom season. I got to go to the Portland Japanese Gardens during that time and it was amazing! I hope to be able to travel to Japan during sakura season one year!
