The Forrest Gump bench was at Chippewa Square in Savannah. For a while I was incorrectly referring to it as Cherokee Square. So your comment sort of glued it all together - and I was thinking exactly the same thing.

I'm an art historian by profession and play bass in my spare time. I'm also an aviation enthusiast, mainly because for a number of years I used to fly a lot (as a passenger). So I follow this channel due to the very interesting aviation content presented by a professional pilot. And now Juan also plays bass! What!!!

I just got my late fathers Kay Blonde bass back from the luthier in Bastrop Texas and found your video. I have never played the bass before but will start with your version of the bass tab for Cherokee Shuffle. I have been playing bluegrass songs on my 1971 D-18 Martin for years and just transcribed Kenny Smith's guitar version of the tune. What a great video for starting out on the bass. Many thanks for this , i didn't find many other bass videos of yours but look forward to watching some of your other videos for sure . The London Boeing 777 one with the fuel calculations was the second one I saw. Wow, a man of so many talents, a true Renaissance man. What a treat finding your bass video and all the followup ones to watch and enjoy. Best to you , Roy Cotton, Austin Texas

I still have my Fender Musicmaster that I bought new in 1957 with my paper route money when I was in junior high school. I paid $125 for the guitar, hard case, and tweed amp. If I had another $100, I could have bought a Stratocaster that is worth upwards of $25,000 My Musicmaster is worth about $3,000 but I would never sell it. FYI - If you like country music, you can play just about any song on the guitar with 3 chords. Juan, your talents are absolutely amazing. I found you on you tube when you were doing the tragic Kobe Bryant videos.

LOVE bluegrass! It's all relatively new to me, being born and raised in MA, where us heathens were born and bred on rock and heavy metal, lol. The slow time in the shop has got me learning (listening, not playing) alot of older Country / Western music - Merle Haggard, George Jones, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams (and Jr.), etc. - man, I fell in love with it instantly. Learned that I LOVE the sound of a banjo and fiddle. 2 songs from Alabama I can't stop listening to: Mountain Music, and Dixieland Delight. Gives me goosebumps from start to finish! 😎 When I had bought my electric guitar and amp way back in my early teens, I could be shown how to play certain songs, and I'd get it after LOTS of practice, but, reading music and understanding what notes are what, just blew right over my head. The only notes I know are car horns. I have a 4 horn setup in my truck that's A, C, D, and F - I couldn't tell you what level any of them are (flat, sharp, ???) - that's all I know. They harmonize nice. Sounds great! But as far as music goes, I've never been able to get it! Same with card games - never was able to be taught poker. Just couldn't get it. But, I can rebuilt any engine you set in front of me, and it WILL run when I'm done, lol. I also work on modern automotive junk with OBD-II. Was infuriating, but I learned that electronic system over the past 5 years. This was great, Juan! Loved that song. In 10 minutes I won't remember a single note you mentioned, but the song will still be playing in my head! I guess I had too much fun in the 80's, & early to mid 90's. I fried a few cells upstairs ... 😂

As somebody who has been around bluegrass music my entire life but never had an inclination to play, this was actually a very useful video for me. Connected some dots with the words and sounds I've heard in my parent's living room and at festivals all over growing up. It might even make sense. Also somehow I follow several RU-vidrs who are all secret bluegrass musicians, not sure how that happened...

My dad played the stand up bass in a band while he was in the Army in WWII. When they formed the band, he had never played the bass before, but he did play the guitar. One day, they announced they needed a bass player and his idea was that the bass was strung just like the guitar, minus two strings, so he went for it. Played many officer's dances (got paid a couple of bucks, plus they got to eat the good chow and drink the good booze). In addition, his commanding officer was actor Eli Wallach who also did troop shows and had the band do the music for those shows.

And I got to go to a jam session once. About 10 of the best fiddlers in Texas and 11 quarts of whisky were present. I learned: You don’t “play” the rhythm guitar, you BEAT the rhythm guitar.
