Total waste of oils in laundry soap really. Its nice pouring into the washer but seems we have to use way too much to scent laundered items. Just think how much chemical scents go into off the shelf laundry products. Not at all healthy.
@@deniseanderson9260 I make perfume sachets to go into cupboards and linen drawers which perfumes my laundry AFTER it's been washed. What is the point of flushing essential oils in so much water?
Patric Richardson, aka The Laundry Evangelist, has said there's no such thing as a detergent for HE washers.. ..it's just a matter of using less. He says most of us use way too much ... that causes residue. I've seen the opinion that homemade isn't safe for HE washers. I have a top-loading HE washer. I have made my own dry laundry powder for years. You only need 1 tablespoon of the powder for a full load. ..or 1/8 cup of liquid...yes, even the commercial detergents. Thank you, Laura. You supply wonderful information in an interesting way. I enjoy your channel! I subscribed a long time ago.
Today at Dollartree I found a bar of soap called Shugar Soapworks it says it’s a natural plant derived vegan gluten free bar if soap. For a dollar. I wondered if this could be used in the laundry soap and if you have ever used that brand before????
I love this detergent so much! My husband always insisted I wash his stuff in Tide because other natural detergents I've tried don't do anything for arm pit odor. Well this works even better than Tide! I add an additional 1/4 cup each of baking soda and borax straight to the drum as well as vinegar in the fabric softener compartment. I'm hesitant to switch to this for my cloth diapers still, but I really want to because it's just so much better than Tide for my baby's skin
I’ve heard from washing machine dealers to not use shredded Zote, Naphtha, and other bars because they clog up your machine after awhile. Better to stick to detergent cleaners. I use washing soda, baking soda, eprom salt , and sea salt. I like the idea of essential oil sachets in drawers for fragrance.
I hope by now you have found it to be easier to put the bar soap in your blender. Add some of the washing soda powder along with it while blending so it doesn't stick. Thanks for the video!
Great info! So excited to swap my store-bought stuff for your recipe! What was your process for washing cloth diapers? Like how many wash cycles and amounts if this detergent you'd recommend. We have an HE front loader. Thanks so much for your info and supporting other families with living a nontoxic life and keeping our littles safe! ❤️
I have an older top load washer. I add my laundry detergent after filled with water. I let it agitate a little to mix the detergent, stop and add my clothes, then begin the cycle. Couldn't I just add some essential oil drops into the water, separate from the soap mixture? Just seams unreasonable to think that one can mix powder and oil together and have the oil disbursed equally in the mix.
Thank you Laura! I make a similar recipe but use my magimix to wizz up the soap bar as I don’t like doing it by hand! Then you can add the other ingredients and wizz them in too!
So glad I found this video ! I never thought about making my own soap until I watched someone else do it using similar products like you did. Only she made a years worth of powdered laundry soap. I’m like noooo 😭 Lol I don’t even know if my family is allergic to any of these products I need smaller amounts. And then your video popped up and I’m grateful 😁 Can’t wait to try this for our family.
Very helpful!! I actually made the same soap and lasted almost a year but in a much larger jar. How you didn’t mention how long that lasts. Looks quite small lol. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this recipe! I'm excited to try it! But I am a little confused on how much to use. Is the rule of thumb 2 tablespoons for a medium size load?
Hi , lovely channel. I have a question - CAN WE USE THIS IN SPACE FOR REGULAR DETERGENT, AND THEN PUT YOUR LAUNDRY SOFTENER DIRECTLY INTO MACHINE OER CLOTHES? Can we mix both?
How many g has to have the soap bar for this recipe? I made my own soap, which is why I ask. In order to dont be too bubble into washing machine. And how much g has the cup its the 250 g or 500g cup in video I can't tell because has to be a ratio with the soap bar in grams!??? Thank you
Hey I saw other recipes that called for washing soda only and I was wondering if there was an specific reason you add the baking soda? My kids and I have sensitive dry skin so I’m looking for the best option for us while still staying frugal, non-toxic and low waste...I made this recipe already just to be safe, thank you.
1:13 Is washing soda the same as soda ash or is it different? 1:36 Is a high efficiency washing machine different from a regular washing machine? Will this recipe cause any problem to your regular washing machine?
@@ouroilyhouse do I add washing powder as well? Or do I just use this recipe to wash the clothes and using a front loader do it put it in the washing powder dispenser? Thank you
I have read lots of different opinions on this too. I am not a plumber but I will say that I have been using homemade laundry soap for 8 years and never had any issues.
Wagner Wondering I recently saw a YT video titled "STOP using HOMEMADE Laundry Soap?!?!" by Living Traditions Homestead. Great discussion in the comments but 1 comment really helped me and it was by " Nearly Organic Noshing", lengthy but thorough. Now I'm just searching for the right recipe, hence the reason I'm on this page.
Supermodelle, yes! I love them. That is definitely one source that I trust that I’ve heard say no! I want it to work so bad! It would be so nice to make my own, save the money and get away from the toxins in the store bought!
how do you recommend adding the powder detergent. I have a top loading HE washer, with no agitator. I tried putting it in the compartment, but I prefer to use cold water and it hardened some of it in that compartment during wash. Can I apply by sprinkling it directly on the clothes? What do you suggest? TIA!
I use a food processor to blend it all together gets soap graded better too after grading it or u can put the blender bottom on top of jar screw it on and use a blender
Plastic canning guide would help you pour your powders, suggestion, you should wear a mask. I cannot use soap in my formulas, it leaves stains on my clothes, I have HE washer, could be the water but it shouldn’t with baking soap and washing soda. Suggestion: research on how to make washing soda out of baking soda. Saves buying another product... from a single mom.... thank you for what you do
Frank Gutowski I notice you continue with the inflammatory language. Something that has stood the test of time and is effective is not PRIMITIVE. You u mist be in the pay of the Big Boys.
Is there a way to combine this powdered laundry soap with the laundry scent boost because I live in a tiny home and I don't have a whole lot of space I'm just curious if I can't I'll just make smaller versions of each
I would like to chime in that it is pointless to use both baking soda and washing soda. Just use more washing soda! The baking soda will not do anything the washing soda can’t do.
Hi, i have a question: is it safe ( for plants insects and microbes in the soil) to water a garden with the water from washing machine if wash is treated with this washing powder? I am renovating my summerhouse and i have opportunity to redirect most of house water to the garden. Thanks !
Caustic soda is a very strong base and is also called sodium hydroxide with chemical formula NaOH. Washing soda is a weak base and is also called sodium bicarbonate with chemical formula NaHCO3.
I think it does need a warm water wash to dissolve. I think i am just going to use a solo cup or glass jar and add my soap and hot water together to dissolve and then add it to the washer.
