Wildo comes from the city Borås. The man who developed the idea is a former military officer and friend of mine.

A friend in the Swedish Air Force gave me one of the same small cups several years ago and I have kept it in the car. I was surprised to find it was part of an entire mess kit and added it to my wish list. I received this full Wildo kit for Christmas last year and agree 100% that it is by far the best polymer kit I've seen. Very clever and functional gear that's worth it. Good review!

Thousands of scouts, backpackers, campers and soldiers in the Nordic countries have used these cups for several years - ask one, and he/she can probably show you a couple of both the small and the large one in their kitt. As you say in the video, they're easy to store, easy to maintain, don't weigh much and so so far I haven't had one break. I highly recommend them

The graduation is in decilitres. Filled to the brim it's 6dl = 0.6l = 60cl = 600ml = 20.3oz = roughly 2 coffee mugs.

The smaller cup are standard issue in the swedish armed force. It's known as the "greedy-cup" (snik-kåsa). Because if We smell coffee, it just pops up and everybody want a few drops.

Something viewers might want to look into is using 8 inch aluminum cake pans. They're wide enough to use as a plate, but deep enough to use as a bowl. They're a bit heavier than plastic but still lightweight. And they have the advantage of being able to heat food directly with them. I don't think rust would be a concern unless you stored them wet for a prolonged period of time. Dollar Tree sells them for $1 each.

Scored this in a battlbox a couple years back, I still use the strainer at work regular for ramen etc. I don't know them to be microwave safe so I use a different dish because I don't want to chance harming it, but yeah, never used their utinsel but love the kit!

Pause it at 4:25 That's how I would use the fork/knife portion of the spork when I needed it. Cutting edge down and fork ready to poke.

I just LOVE how the price doubles when you click on the amazon link. Instead of selling these in volume and making good money and pleasing customers, they have to get greedy and gouge you one at a time at a higher price after someone gives them a good review.

Knowing this was developed across the pond...the fork portion of the utensil would be correct/easier to eat with when flipped over. This keeps the spoon function...functional.
@NGMonocrom
@NGMonocrom 5 лет назад
Oh yeah, that's right. In many countries, they don't transfer the fork from the left hand to the right one after using it to hold down a piece of meat and cutting with the knife in the right hand. Knife just stays in the right hand, fork in the left and inverted for a right-handed individual. So the tines are on the correct side, for them.

Have had one for a couple of months now. For what it is, it's excellent. If someone is looking for a polymer and rubber mess kit, I think it's the way to go. Only two minor criticisms. The seasoning cylinder. I find I have to position it a certain way in a certain spot inside the kit. Otherwise the top cover does not want to slide on properly when closing up the mess kit. I'd honestly remove the cylinder. Use it by itself in a larger camping kit set-up. Just replace it with a smaller combination Salt & Pepper plastic shaker. The one that comes inside the Wildo just feels too big. It really does. Plus, I only use salt and pepper as seasonings when eating meals in the Great Outdoors. (Maybe a packet of Hot Sauce too.) I personally don't need a 3-chamber seasoning shaker. Also not a fan of the funky-looking "Sporife." (I guess that's what you'd call a combination Spoon, Fork, and Knife.) Personally, a spoon just works best for me with outdoor meals. One idea would be to replace the Sporife with a short titanium spoon that would still fit inside the mess kit. Toaks makes such a spoon, and it's a good one. They also make folding Ti spoons, forks, and sporks. So that's another possibility. But you get more thickness than with just a flat one-piece short spoon. So that _might_ be an issue when it comes to closing the lid.

The type of cup is really common in Sweden (I'd bet in the rest of the Nordics too) - they've been around for decades! I'm always so surprised when I realize/remember that they're apparently not a universal thing 😅 The gradations are deciliters - 10 dl is a liter.

Use the large Foldacups. There's no reason not to pack a regular plastic fork and spoon. Not going to weigh you down, sporks aren't that great. In the kits defence my Foldacup is 7/8 years old and is still going strong, this kit is well made.

Wildo stuff is awesome! The bigger cup in this set is one of my favourite tools, I never use the small one, it's too small for my needs. I'm too greedy with coffee to use the little sucker.

The spoon is actually a good design in my view - the fork is on the opposing side, as u put it, is actually correct, when you need to use it as a fork turn it around and this puts the serrated part also right there and the right way around. It won’t work “the right way around” (in your method) because then you would have a fork in the way of using the spoon…

What you having a problem with the spoon and the mess kit is made for a left hand person. Never seen left handed mess kit. Though not set to cook in so need a separate cook mess kit

@darthkek1953
@darthkek1953 5 лет назад
Depends, I'm probably like you; I do my cooking from a titanium pot from which I eat. I actually have an Evernew Solo set, a bigger can for dinner and a smaller mug can that stacks for my coffee. HOWEVER if you wanted to make fancier meals ("this plus that plus the other") then this could well be handy for making different elements to dishes, and certainly with a small group with different things cooking this would be ideal to divvy-up portions. But yeah, it's not for me as I'm solo & lightweight. Looks great for when I go car-camping with the wife though, very stackable and portable, lots of different options. Heck one would probably do the pair of us. ;-)

@darthkek1953
@darthkek1953 5 лет назад
Nothing wrong with plastic if it's intended for long-term use. The problem is DISPOSABLE single-use plastic.
@EidolonSpecus
@EidolonSpecus 5 лет назад
@@darthkek1953 Mostly, yes. But people still lose "long-term use" items all the time. For example, more than 30% of the plastic that is polluting our oceans is actually from fishing gear that was not intended to be disposeable. That cup that you lost on a camping trip is still going to take millenia to break down, and will inevitably be a contaminant while doing so. Not to mention that a whole bunch of animals (such as game) are susceptible to getting killed by its debris accumulating in their digestive tract.
@darthkek1953
@darthkek1953 5 лет назад
@@EidolonSpecus vile ultra-scale commercial fishing, yes; it's not the occasional "dad" angler. I have a much bigger issue with people taking disposable bottles of water with them when hiking as a large % will dump it. Only a tiny % will lose their expensive kit.
@IAMGWH1
@IAMGWH1 2 года назад
@Erdolon Specus The “BEST” would be carved wooden cups n bowls to eat out of then if “lost” or chucked it’ll recycle naturally back to Mother Nature! I’ll keep that in mind if I can find an affordable, perfect portion sized lite weight kit & I’m all in. What I did here was to find a resolve to the problem that you presented correct? If you market that I’ll buy it better yet I’ll make, market then sell to you & everyone. Let’s get it done ASAP!
