Barcelona lost La Liga to Atletico on the final day of the season, and that meant that they suffered their first trophyless season in a long time. It got worse for Messi as he lost the World Cup final that summer to a lone extra-time goal. A season like that can ruin anybody, but Messi was able to come out from that and produce an all-timer. It was incredible to see.
