Yup. One of the very best cold opens in the history of video games! Watching her (I always play Fem Shep) slowly drifting away as she desperately struggles with her oxygen . . . little dot fading away into the dark . . . silence . . . sad piano . . . gets me right in the feels - and I've played it over a dozen times!

Just started ME2, what a start, maybe the most dramatic, emotional, and sometimes shocking first hour in any game. Surprised no-one has adapted these into movies tbh, stories are great and Shepard is definitely a strong enough character to carry it.
Captain Anderson and his voice! His VO is the acclaimed and Emmy winning actor Keith David. He has been in a lot of interesting projects. I think the first film I ever saw him in was the Vin Diesel move "Pitch Black" (2000). A very memorable character in an action packed sci-fi movie. Don't know if you have ever seen it but I recommend it. Excellent use of light effects all throughout the movie that are very cool, for reasons you will understand if you ever watch it. 😎
Heavy weapon ammo doesn't replenish itself after every mission. When a mission is over go over to the part of the ship where Jacob is & use the weapon dispenser to change your equipped heavy weapon and then change it back to get 100% heavy weapon ammo. The arc projector is op. Use it to attack groups of enemies at once.
Completely agree! Best intro into any game so far. Always hits me emotionally, even after all these years. Deserves a film or HBO style episodic live action screen play like all the other Sci-Fi we see streaming nowadays.
Yeaaahh... The three councilors aren't worth the trouble themselves. But I really love the Destiny Ascension, and it has a crew of over 10,000... So I generally prefer to put up with the council's BS, so long as I get to save that ship. ^^;; Really glad you enjoyed the intro so much. I had so much spoiled for me before I got to play it that it was really nice to see a genuine reaction. It really pulls zero punches.

Yay! The adventures of Shepard continue! I was excited to see how you'd react to all the Cerberus stuff (Especially considering Admiral Kahoku!) and of course the dismissal of the Council! With your Shepard trying to be a better person and even sacrificing lives to save them, it must just slap in the face that she is STILL being ignored by them! Also very happy to see you making the effort with Miranda. You've both kinda got a ruthless streak, so I could see a good partnership there!
The disrespect from the Council is so wild! But yeah I’m loving Miranda so far, I feel like the game tries to make us dislike her sometimes but I’m hoping her and Shepard will remain a strong relationship🙏🏼
Glad to see you back, I thought you gave up on the trilogy. Forgot that you're romancing Kaidan Blandenko but nobody's perfect. You're in for a treat, looking forward to seeing the rest of your playthrough. One piece of advice, if I may. Renegade dialogue options and interrupts don't necessarily mean the "evil" choice. Sometimes they're the best option in a given situation. Don't let yourself get railroaded into the binary blue/red = good/bad system.
Noo I absolutely would never give up on the trilogy! I loved ME1 so much, but Cyberpunk is my all time fave so had to get through Phantom Liberty before starting ME2.
@@lucyjrobyn Cyberpunk has come a long, long way since its dodgy launch. I have yet to play Phantom Liberty but I only heard good things about it. Glad to hear you enjoyed it.
I have never found them the best option ever, though the game does hide a few paragon options after a renegade option that pure paragon will never see being tempted to never use a renegade option and some of course are super satisfying but feeding a player itch is not always the optimal choice either. One of the biggest flaws in ME is the ren par wheel making people not take the organic roll play option or intuitive option and instead do what they have to do to get points.
Without going into any spoilers, I’m just gonna say you’re going to want to make sure you do most of the side stuff before the end missions. Really excited to follow along! This series is very dear to my heart and I’m excited to see people enjoying it.
@wasgreg Not spoiler - - - It's less a bug, and more just really stupid design. There's two separate triggers that are for that point, about the mission and the thing itself. There's no point in the thing having a separate trigger to the mission given that it is automatically set to '1' instead of '0' (basically), and implies that at some point in development you would have actually had to choose to set the trigger manually A highly underrated RU-vidr called pikminwolf has a video about the mission that that shoddy design auto triggers which is very interesting
I can't find the words to explain how much I envy you. Mass Effect 2 is so epic, so fantastic, so great. If it were possible to see it all again for the first time, to relive the emotions of the first playthrough, I would gladly pay any price for it.

If I can ask, was The Witcher 3 your first Witcher game? 🙂I was lucky enough to buy "The Witcher" (very first one) and play it shortly after its release in 2007. My PC had 256M of memory only... I remember having to wait up to 45 minutes for some areas to load. But I was happy to wait, because the game was so unlike any game I've played before and the plot was so exciting. I upgraded my PC later and went through the game so many times, what I learned how to kill one of main antagonist, Azar Javed, with just a one hit (developers clearly did not expect it). 🙂
Heyhey, great to see you start ME2! 😊 Oh, if you ever get tired of calling The Illusive Man by his full codename, you can just shorten it to TIM! I think someone already mentioned that he's voiced by Martin Sheen, and just like with Miranda and Yvonne Strahovski, they modelled TIM after him as well (aside from the freaky blue eyes!). The ME2 start always goes hard haha, I look forward to seeing you experience the rest!
Seeing the reactions new players have to the opening of ME2 since the Legendary Edition came out is always great. It was such a shame that back the time of the original release the marketing completely spoiled the opening to ME2. New players today are able to have a genuine experience and reaction to the game in a way players back then simply could not. I hate when marketing spoils games like that.

Yeah I noticed that, I’m sure we never saw him out of the cockpit in ME1 so I wasn’t sure if he was able to walk much at all. Was good seeing him up and around and happy.
I had the same feelings too but then the advice Miranda offered is practical so I didn't see the point of stamping my foot just to say; hey, I'm the one in control. I felt there would be other opportunities for Shepard to impose her command.
This is such a strong intro into anything really! It's so gripping and shocking. Man, I can't believe you didn't manage to read the text at the very beginning, you were reading SO fast! 😂 I remember watching this during your N7 stream but now I'm ready for the binge.
Martin Sheen comes in clutch with his performance as The Illusive Man. And, not gonna lie, I wouldn’t be surprised if TIM is always smoking and drinking whiskey because that’s how Martin Sheen rolled up to the recording booth every day 😂

True, the banter is good in Mass Effect, but in my opinion the absolute best banter I've ever heard is found in Dragon Age Origins (which you should play if you haven't already). It's incredible the sheer volume and quality of banter in that game, from the dialogue options with teammates to the banter you hear between themselves while you're running around.
Considering that Shepard was blown out into space with damaged a space suit and essentially fell onto a planet like a meteor, okay is something Shepard most certainly was not. lol. "Lazarus" is a biblical reference: to being someone resurrected.
It’s definitely one of the better intros. Prolly a top 10-15 game for me. The best cinematic intro ever is LoK: Soul Reaver IMO. Lays out the main characters, some lore, the motivation, and great music all in under 5 minutes.

I am a SIMP for Miranda, and she is the reason i started my WHOLE 1st playthrough over with a MaleShep, solely for the purpose of getting to know Miranda in a more... Personal way lol 😅 Anyone who gives Miranda a chance is aces to me 🎉 Can't wait to see how ME2 blows your mind 🤯
The Illusive Man is voiced by, and loosely face modeled on the actor Martin Sheen, from Apocalypse Now fame, amoungst other films.. this game is awesome, enjoy
What annoys me about this game and it annoys me far more than it should, is the fact that Shep is running around like RoboCop but half your squad mates are running about in their pajamas. I know it probably annoyed people but I did miss putting your squad in armour. Allyness saves lives.
29:30 Generally yeah, but here the "chosen one" trope works and it's for the reasons that were discussed in the intro with T.I.M. and Miranda. Shepard is an icon. They brought together people of different races, uncovered the Reaper threat, and even killed one. You've developed various valuable connections to various circles and even helped put a human on the Citadel council. It makes sense that a group like Cerberus, with their human centric ideals, would see the value in that. As far as the Lazarus Project itself, it makes even more sense. The Project was solely about bringing Shepard back, undoubtedly seeking to hold influence over them, and they poured an immense amount of resources into doing so. Of course Shepard is the only thing that matters as far as the project goes. Honestly, this really isn't the "chosen one" trope at all.

I always saw Shepard as a real military person so she/he would have never had a romantic relationship with someone in her/his chain of command which is absolutely against regulations and for good reason. So I must admit I'm a bit irritated when I see such relationship in a game I never did it in any of my playthroughs of ME.
I've never romances Kaidan so this will be interesting to watch (my femshep is for the girls & theys and only has eyes for Liara) Really enjoyed your reactions as I've played so many times that nothing is a surprise to me

Haha. I think, given the Council’s track record of being very wrong, they should have to prove their theory of Saren lying. Until they can prove it, we’ll believe Shepard (who has always been right so far and saved the galaxy)
@@lucyjrobyn I mean, I get it. From the player's perspective, the truth is obvious. We got to see events as they went down. But look at it from their perspective. They haven't seen any evidence to validate Shepard's Reaper theory. The only thing Shepard was demonstrably right about was the Conduit on Ilos. But as far as the Reapers go? Only Shepard and the crew of the Normandy have ever seen evidence of that, and its a pretty outlandish claim to take at face value. What seems more likely? That a race of god-like synthetics from dark space are perpetuating a cycle of galactic extinction, or that Saren -- known to be good at manipulating people -- was using the Geth to stage a coup? I fully understand why everyone hates the Council, but I'll die on this hill. xD The Council's mistrust towards Shepard is justified. *Especially* now that Shepard is working with Cerberus.
One of the things I found interesting about thins game was how they incorporated Shepard's reconstruction into character creation. Even if you imported your Shepard from the first game the scars were still present and they either became better or worse depending on your ethical gameplay. The more heroic you are the better they got until they were gone and if you were villainous the scars get worse. While it's an interesting Gameplay, I kinda felt that it only bothered me. I am generally a kind of in the middle player and side with comrades rather than what good and moral.
Not sure if you've figured it out but... the Ammo power is passive and is like the fire ammo mods in the first game (well... the one you have from start). Edit: Naming a ship after one that sank is considered bad luck... Technical spoilers about Male gameplay: ... Tali is best girl... it is sooo hard for me to romance any of the women other than Tali in ME2.
you probably already been told this, but when it comes to upgrades, you want to send probes down them planets to mine for resources. just so you can buy every upgrade. they be worth the investment (you dont have to probe every planet, just enough...like half of them)
Hope you dig the series overall. No advice other then the obvious about saving, & make sure to save in your last stream too, since just like with ME1 into this one, the decisions you made in this one carry over to ME03. This game also has nods to a certain movie classic. If you've seen the movie you should get them fairly quick. if not hopefully I'll find your channel again & I'll tell you on your last stream.
I feel you about that opening 😂 When I saw that opening, i was like "My ship! My beautiful ship!" EDIT: I don't blame you for being frustrated with the Council, but look at it from their perspective. Shepard disappears after her ship is attacked and destroyed (Which shouldn't have been possible with the stealth systems engaged), there's been no evidence of Reaper activity for the last two years, the only evidence ever provided for the Reaper's existence was Shepard's Dreams and Saren's testimony, and just imagine the chaos that would happen if the Council did say the Reapers existed. Then Shepard suddenly returns after two years, commanding a ship flying Cerberus colors (A known terrorist organization) and talking about Reapers again, once again, without any physical evidence. Its frustrating, for sure, but I can hardly blame them.
In my top 5 games of all time. Fantastic game. No spoilers from me...but make sure you do ALL loyalty missions AND upgrade your ship FULLY as soon as you can. When you get to the point that something not so cool happens, make sure you follow through with it as soon as you can. Don't dawdle. That's all I'll say. Enjoy the game.
