I’ve been using the cheapest iPad that supports the Apple pencil for over 4 years!
And that's the iPad 2018 (6th generation).
It’s been the first usual iPad to support the Apple pencil.
So in this video I'm gonna share my experience of using it and tell you if it is still good for drawing for the beginner artists!
And also draw some Howl's Moving Castle from Studio Ghibli fanart!

Love that you made a video about an "old" iPad and showed that you can still create incredible (I mean *really incredible*) art on it. Goes to prove that a good artist can create good art with just about anything.

@@Elmopios I use Huion Kamvas Pro 13 2.5k for my home PC) and I take Kamvas 13 or xp-pen artist 12 for my laptop when I travel)

This was a good review. Helped me decide to go get one of these. I went mid priced model. It is as good to see I didn’t have to drop the bag on the high end on to use this for drawing. I only wanted it for being mobile but was worried the mid models wouldn’t be enough but this review helped me see that it would be. So far I like it

Thanks for this video! I’ve been wanting to try an ipad since I’ve been working on a Surface Pro 4 for a couple of years. You’re right, trying an older model will be a great way to jump into the ipad environment.

This was the iPad I began using when I decided that digital drawing was something I wanted to do. I remember drawing on an iPad 5th gen before I got the first ever iPad with Apple Pencil support.

Amazing review!!! I did the same back in 2020, but I bought the 128gb version just in case. The review is perfect, just one correction: the iPads 7th, 8th, and 9th gen have 3gb of ram, BUT, the extra ram doesn’t give you even 50% extra layers, only 25 percent more. For example for an A3 size they give you 26 layers. However, an interesting thing is that the 9th gen comes at least with 64gb of base storage. Once again, amazing review. I also believe in the value of the basic iPads.

@@aryaverma9880 Procreate works well with all current iPads. I have worked professionally with an iPad Air 4 (2020). If you don't want to spend much, these are the iPads I recommend, from cheapest to most expensive: 1) iPad 9th Gen with apple pencil 1 2) iPad Air 4 2020 (refurbished) with apple pencil 2 3) iPad 10th Gen with apple pencil 1 4) iPad Air 5 2022 with apple pencil 2 iPad Pro is not necessary for art, yes, it is the best, buy it if you can or want, but you don't need to.

thank for this video, sometimes the solution is not spending a lot of money, i am considering pursuing art full time and have a 2018 ipad with a original apple pencil and was considering buying an ipad pro but i think im going to give the 2018 a fair shot before i dump money on something much more expensive.

Same here! I bought the refurbished 2015 ipad and I still use it now with no issues other than storage and the lack of support for the Apple pencil. I try to only keep Instagram and Procreate on my iPad because of the storage but it's very hard as I like to use other apps too. I was told in the Apple store that they don't have the 1st Gen apple pencil anymore, so if mine breaks yikes! I'm trying to save to get something more updated but unfortunately everything is so expensive and I'm used to drawing on my iPad over everything else. Off to update to drive so I can have more storage again! Lol😂🎉

apple not long released the 10th gen ipad which still uses the 1st gen pencil so they definitely still sell it, i guess either your local store was either mistaken or just stopped stocking them bc they dont get a lot of sales?

I have a universal license with affinity photo so I'm thinking about buying this iPad for drawing, it would make a great secondary display tablet when I don't want to sit at my computer.

id sooner go with a galaxy tab 6 lite 2022 version . comes with pen (no charging needed). also cheaper and can run full desktop krita or infinite painter ...but thats just me. i do like your videos a lot.. keep going

I just got a hand me down apple ipad pro 12.9 inch 2017 and it just does the job. I've been comparing all tablets that are compatible with procreate and it just doesn't matter if you got the old version. What matters really is: the upgrade, the memory 😢 (thank God i got 512gb) , the pencil and most of all your drawing skills. 😅

But it days pro create only works on 15.4 i thinnk.. i am lost, want cheapest one just for procreate.. any idea ? Like there are so many, but apple screws u by no upgrading on some models

My dad has a MobileStudio that he doesn’t use, and I have a cintiq 16 of my own, but these days with the price of a photoshop license I’m considering just picking up an Apple Pencil to check it out. It’s not even half of a month of Adobe, so it might be worth the gamble.
